I feel like Sam is a little too hard on himself. He may not have healed as much as past clerics, but he's absorbed so much damage it's balances out. I personally like this preventative maneuver of absorbing half of someone else's damage, and it feels very on brand for FCG.

Sam is a delight to have at the table, a great player, and an incredibly talented person. That being said, he isn't just being hard on himself. In combat situations he is not living up to FCGs capabilities by a long shot. A big part of this is deliberate choices, for example he said he doesn't want to use guiding bolt or spiritual weapon or moves that other clerics in the show have used. Another part is a fundamental misunderstanding of how a cleric functions. For example, healing is underpowered from a numbers perspective. A cleric in DND can heal and should heal if the situation calls for it but clerics are tankier than wizards and have some seriously powerful attack and utility spells. Sam sees FCG as the healer though so he prioritizes that and will always be playing catch up throughout the fight. Which, it's fine for him to play in the way that makes the most sense for his own enjoyment and the table but I'd rather praise him for considering how he could be doing better than pretend mitigating a little damage makes up for it all.

@@PrettyGuardian I am now playing DnD for the first time and i play a cleric. And i went the tanky route. I want to be at the frontline. I want to be the focus of the enemy so that my companions can hit them (all of them are dex chars, i have the highest strength ^^). But thats just me. everybody plays different and every character is different and thats one point that makes DnD so much fun.

The problem is he's trying to be different from previous clerics when honestly, Clerics kinda have only a few good spells. Bless, Spirit Guardians, Spiritual Weapon, Guiding Bolt, Healing Word and maybe Sanctuary and Shield of Faith are pretty much the goto for low level spells. Silence and Enhance Ability have their uses occasionally. Then that's pretty much all you're casting until you can Flamestrike and Sunbeam. There's a good reason Ashley spammed Guiding Bolt, the dmg it can put out puts every other 1st level spell to shame. While also giving Advantage to the next attack, which is amazing on it's own. The way he plays FCG makes me think he should be spamming Sanctuary on himself since he wants to only heal people and I'm fairly certain as long as you don't attack you can still be protected by it.

I would enjoy a CR show with [Class] Roundtables. Maybe 20-25 minute segments of everyone who has played [Class] discussing their experiences with it. Bring back relevant guests if they like. Have Matt comment.

Here's the *actual* reason why Waluigi is named that: When they needed a second character for Mario Bros., they copied Marios sprite, changed the colors and named it 'Luigi', not just because it was another Italian name, but also because 'ruiji' means 'same/similar' in Japanese. When they created an evil counterpart to mario as a final boss for Super Mario Land 2, they named him 'Wario', not just because it's 'Mario' with the M turned upside down, but because 'warui' means 'evil'. When they needed a doubles partner for Wario in Mario Tennis, they created 'Waluigi', which is a portmanteau of 'warui' and 'ruiji'. So, not only is the name kind of clever, also Waluigi is a very tragic character because he is a reflection of a reflection, no matter how you look at it, and has truely no identity of his own. Also, Charles Martinet said that he voices Waluigi with an inherent sense of unfairness. The reason he cheats and fights dirty all the time is because he is convinced thats's what everybody else does and he's just evening the playing field.

Yeah, the "it's not that difficult" was a bit rough, but the "everything's got to be long" was pretty great. The British Isles has some of the highest accent-density in the world, so plenty of options to choose from, but you have to pick one and go with it.

@@friskybitzboi I'm not caught up on C3 but I don't think there is any effective way for her to use those 3 Levels in Rogue. I personally find it hilarious and really cool that she went for it but at the same time she picked up 3 dead levels and delayed her spell progression. Bonus action dash and Expertise is kinda nice though. Same thing can be said about Chetney, he is a Stength build so he can't use Backstab but he only has a one level dip and probably got Stealth expertise which is a much better deal for him.

I‘m so with Taliesin on background story. When my character doesn‘t know something, it‘s not part of my backstory. Many DMs actually really like that, because it allows them to come up with nice mysteries for the party! It‘s a lot of fun!

1:46:32 I identify so hard with Liam’s POV for Orym in regards to his biological father. I am an adoptee and my biological father lived in my local area my whole childhood until I moved at 19 years old. I was curious, for sure, but never made contact or really felt compelled to learn much about him. Now, my childhood wasn’t nearly as positive as Orym’s was, but I love that he doesn’t play into the troupe of “absent father daddy issues.”

Let me just talk about how good Sam is on this show. He is always upholding this clueless vibe like he doesnt know whats going on. But you can see how engaged he is especially on this show. Even when he's not hosting he always poses excellent talking points and directs the conversation in smart ways. He's made for this type of content.

Sam is amazing at interviews and holding conversation. I realised this when he would go on the Watch Parties for Legend of Vox Machina. Even if the question that was being asked would normally be a one-word answer, he found ways to expand. Granted, he worked on the show, but do did other guests. It was a combo of screen presence, knowledge, improv, and just a naturally engaging personality.

@@martophrenia I get it but tbh some of the games they have chosen to play were really dull to watch, so it sort of depends on the episode. I think usually the questions don’t bother me but this game specifically relies on communication between players and they actually knew how to play it because they did the tutorial levels before so having questions thrown at them was particularly frustrating here. Especially that they hardly even answered them anyway because they were focusing on the game lmao

I really hope this cleric talk is kind of like a small intervention for Sam. As much as I want to applaud the creativity and choices to play "off meta" with his spell choice, the choice has also severely hurt FCGs ability to contribute to Bell's Hells in a meaningful way. It is also getting a little tiring to hear Sam complain about how ineffective he is, but it is all due to his poor choices. I'm not saying he needs to play optimally, he just needs to make better choices.

I get that he wants the challenge and uniqueness of not doing what other clerics have done, but I think he has given himself so many limitations that he makes it virtually impossible to do his class's job.

Fun fact: Wario is a portmanteau of the Japanese word "waru" meaning "bad" and Mario's name, hence "Wario". They repeated this style of portmanteau for Waluigi, but the pun works better in Japanese, because they have a merged L/R sound (kinda sounds like a "d" sound further forward in the mouth) so Luigi is pronounced "ruiji" so his evil counterpart is "waruiji".

@@allylavender3023 it's absolutely astonishing, he is handicapping the party so hard and making all their lives harder and its so infuriating to watch, and the fact he said that he hasn't used any spells that previous clerics have used which is ninety percent of the spell list. plus his subclass kinda sucks I like the sympathetic bonding but other than that most of it sucks. I get it's Sam we are talking about however come on man you are purposely causing a detriment.

But seriously bless us great for FCG thematically and mechanically since FCG is always blessing people with the changebringer. Spirit guardians. Like come on sam during boss fights he is gonna get someone killed because he refuses to use any other spells that are halfway decent.

It is based on FF14 and how the Red Moon was holding a Eikon, which was a god like dragon that destroyed the land. It was made out of technology by an ancient, very advanced civilization. A lot of plot points in Exandria can also be linked to being inspired by FF14

@@antiphon000 Did you watch the video? Sam's struggling with being a healer and is trying to avoid the same spells Jester and Pike and Cad used so yes I'd call that making it harder for himself. The fact I feel he's still done a pretty decent job of being the healer consistently considering it's not his usual cup of tea is my own opinion I'm allowed to have. So what's the point you were trying to make?

I created a Gnome Doctor who was a Kensei Monk, Nobleman who used Barjutsu( Sherlock/Kingsman Style). Healed with high Medicine and Healer Kits. Also, used scalpels as throwing knives. Picture Sherlock Holmes and Doctor House as a Gnome in a coat and tophat.

it’s one of the dumbest gaming decisions, if not THE dumbest gaming derision, anyone has ever made for a character on this show. FCG adds almost nothing to fights most of the time and now knowing that sam is doing it just because he doesn’t want to have the same spells as other clerics (despite those spells being a STAPLE of his class) is beyond frustrating.

I personally don't think it matters as much as you do and I trust sam will figure it out as he goes and if he really gets down about it like on this episode he can always ask his friends for advice like he did. At the end of the day however it's their game they can play it how they like.

Sam, you should use round 1 to set up buffs and defenses. You don't have to be a damage-dealer to be a "giving lover." Think about Bless, Bane, Spiritual Weapon, etc.

There's lots of options! Clerics are incredibly versatile^^ Spirit guardians/guardian of faith, aura of vitality (if Sam has access to that spell), banishment, holy weapon, summon celestial, hold person, command, etc.

I would love a new section called "How Do You Want to Do This?" where the players review some of their thought processes when it comes to how they approach their classes. Some of my favorite types of discussions on shows like this are when Sam asks "How do I Cleric?" This is the stuff that shows like this is always about. I always feel like I've eaten well whenever Critical Role lets us in on their thoughts behind their classes and characters approaches. It's great and very applicable to all of us who play at home.

for there party comp 3 melee 3 casters, bless does a lot he can always bless Orym Chet and Ashton and when they take damage come in and scoop them up. Beacon is a good option but I see what happens in combat is round 1 they poke it round 2 they go oh crap and nova it and round 3 keep the heat up. I am unsure of what dominion F.C.G is brewed and reskinned to fit but he might have some really good things in his pocket and just haven't read into how to use. I have seen F.C.G use Sprit Guardians like 1 time.

I can see FCG in Star Wars, as a therapist for droids. Like a sitcom even. C-3PO would be his most frequent client, obviously. ;-) And if you think about it, FCG would fit very well in Army of Darkness. I mean, he's a cleric who'd have to fight the undead and he has a sawblade on his arm.

guiding bolt spiritual weapon and spirit guardians for combat. but mostly bless spam. bless is super powerful and works perfectly for fcg's helping character. command hold person and banishment are great control. but mostly you just stay out of the way and healing word people back up from zero.

I think Ashton being a Titan of Blood is foreshadowing, especially in this campaign, that he's going to be integral in preventing/stopping Predathos being unleashed. His link to the Titans might give him the power to help imprison Predathos again like he was so long ago; a mix of Divine and Elemental power.

Its presumably a super small portion of titan essence in him. Its probably comparable to the amount of Vecna's essence in Laudina(if she gave into Delilah), maybe less than that. Most of them have something otherworldly giving them a boost. I don't think Ashton will be the key. I think he's one of many powerful things that will be thrown at Predathos(like all the other things that they've been collecting). Badically a "use everything and the kitchen sink" type of thing, to try to defeat Predathos/prevent him from escaping(I don't think Bell's Hells will let Predathos live if they can help it because of the moon people and their desire for freedom).

I would love for them to do more freeform live streams that don't have to be about D&D like they used to when they were getting subscriber number goals ect. I miss all the other content they do. But still loving this. But maybe once a year, they can get together and just have a wacky stream about stuff.
