CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After everything starts to go to hell, Helen (McKee Anderson) retreats to the basement only to find her daughter (Heather Mazur) has become a zombie.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
For reasons unknown, the recently deceased are rising from the grave as flesh-hungry zombies. Fleeing from the undead horde, a small group of survivors, including Barbara (Patricia Tallman), Ben (Tony Todd) and Harry (Tom Towles), sequester themselves in a remote farmhouse. With the zombies outside the house multiplying, tensions flare, as the group argues over the best way to escape their increasingly dire situation before they are overrun completely.

I always loved how Ben fought off the zombies. I never seen anyone else ever do that again. Dang, the daughter just tears off the mom's necklace like unwrapping a candy or a burger.

@@RipperCyclotron Exactly. That's like a zombie pulling back a person's sleeve to bite their arm and we never seen them do that. Child zombies have always been the wild card in zombie films. Look at the one in the beginning of Z Nation who managed to kill the dude who played the operator in the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movie. That thing was moving like an upper level vampire.

Not that I’m disagreeing with you, but it confuses audiences who are used to zombies purely biting rather than using stabbing tools.

Yeah, it is inconsistent with zombie behavior even in Romero's movies, but I don't think it's beyond comprehension that some zombies are a little unique, which even George centered a whole movie around. Anyone should expect the source material of a popular myth to be quite different than what they're used to, anyways. Vampires were completely altered when Dracula came around. Personally, what I find more confusing in Night of the Living Dead is that zombies reacted to pain and feared fire.

When you say reacted to pain, how do you mean? Just by moving back after getting shot? I recall one instance in the near ending with the farmers shooting a zombie and it clutching its head in semi-pain instinct.

Tony Todd was so badass in this film his version of Ben was used more to strengthen Barbara's character but Romero wrote him also with some badass lines not to mention wrestling with the zombies no stunt man required lol. Bottom line is he wasn't an exact copy of Duane Jones Ben from the 60s original film which I loved he became he own character just like the actress that played Barbara.

Watching the Helen/Sara scene now as an adult and after having kids it makes it more disturbing for me. She basically let her feed on her because she felt horrible that her child is now a zombie.

I watched this when I was little and it gave me nightmares for a solid two months. Kept searching for it all these years and the 1968 version kept popping up. Thought maybe I’d hallucinated it. Watching this now I wonder what I was scared of lol. I remember the daughter scaring me the most.

Because of 2 reasons: 1. they don't know what a zombie is in this world (otherwise they wouldn't have a hard time fighting them) 2. You would be slight taken aback when your own friggin daughter dies then comes back to life and is wanting to eat you. Don't act like a mother can simply get over the fact her daughter is a dead and walking right in front of her.

Eleftheria Eleftheria Yiasou! 🇬🇷🧿 I’m Greek too and I LOVE this version! Much better than the original! It was actually the first horror film I ever saw. I was about 7 and watched the English version in Glyfada, Greece (I had learned a lot of English as a kid) and it traumatized me! I’m an adult now living in the US and I think it’s a phenomenal remake. Patricia Tallman player Barbara excellently! She she Tony Todd were both great together!

One of the differences between the original film and the 90s remake is that the Barbra character you see in the film doesn’t fight the zombies at all in the original film unlike in the 90s remake beaches 👍

Not quite. At the VERY end, Barbara snaps out of her catatonia to save Helen Cooper. She also tries to help Ben hold the barracades in place. Unfortunately, Johnny shows up and it throws her off long enough for her to get grabbed and pulled outside despite Ben's best efforts to save her. The zombies just fall on her like a swarm of locusts.

@@trayweathersby7490 Not at all. In the original movie, they would pick up objects to use all the time. The first zombie picks up a brick to smash the car window. It's addressed in the sequel. Even apes will use tools.

I do like this movie but there is one crucial error that I noticed in this scene. At 1:53 you notice that there is a side of the house where zombies are shown becoming drawn to Ben when he's banging on the door. Remember this shot, because at 2:12 the next doorway that Ben rushes to in this shot is the exact same spot the zombies were at 1:53. So...WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE ZOMBIES THAT WERE JUST THERE?!

@@paleo704 He murdered Ben in cold blood, which incurred Barbara's wrath, killing him. It's almost certainly his fault his daughter got bitten, and he sent Helen into the basement where she got her throat bitten open.And the proper keys were in the basement where Harry would surely have found them if he had bothered to even look. He never even attempts to help anyone, and as a result, Tom and Judy Rose got blown up when the former tries to shoot the lock off the pump and Ben threw the torch into the bed. Would not happen if Cooper even looked for the key which was in the basement.

With maybe the exception of that one zombie, none of them have been undead for more than a day or two. Most of them have only been dead for a matter of hours. It was established that if they had died long enough ago to be visibly decayed, they wouldn't revive, as their brain would be rotten too. But if their death happened hours before the world was contaminated, they revive. These pose no threat unless you allow them to kill you. The ones in the original film were far more dangerous all around.

@Tig Bitties That's true. Yet Sarah and Helen are both seen stumbling after revival. The cemetery ghoul and Karen both had a firm grip and a steady stride. Johnny and Barbara are both additionally clumsy in this version which is what killed the former while CG actively did that in the OG. The original ones were just more brutal all around. Let's not also forget how she reacts to Harry: Karen feeds upon his still warm body before it gets cold. Sarah glances at him and keeps shambling right past him. Why should we be afraid of these again?

@Tig Bitties The threat was equal parts living and dead people in the original. In this version, its only living people. Everyone who died by them let themselves die with plenty of opportunity to try to escape. It often looks like they are not even trying to get the living in this film.

@Tig Bitties Why'd you think they were called ghouls? George Romero never used the word zombie until Dawn of the Dead happened, and it was used only once, and it stuck. And frankly, I don't see how anyone thought the extra syllable word was an upgrade. Walking cadavers could never happen in reality, and the human jaw is not that powerful. They are fantastical, and must be treated as such, but real enough to not be nonsensical. I think the original did that better. So says Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. Rigor mortise doesn't set in instantly; it takes hours. Cemetery ghoul and Karen had every right to be that coordinated. If you think this is better, see Zombi 2. You'll like that more than this. How many stand still and wait to get shot in this film? An emaciated cabbie, Ben, Sarah, a ghoul with a doll.
