One of my wee pleasures is, after doing some jobs on Elmo, to go for a late evening spin.
The double stainless steel exhaust does drown out much of my recount of the list of jobs I have logged that need doing. Sorry! 😔👎
I've had the car two months but as I say int he video, Elmo is my 4th Mk3 Spitfire and probably the tidiest, externally, having had a respray at some point int he past five or so years. Sills and some panels appear to have been replaced too. Fortunately, the majority of my tasks (the list is long!!) are mechanical and a few electrical and the usual hydraulic bleeding.
Overall, I got a bit of a bargain! Yes, the car has a glass bonnet but I'm prepared to put up with that until I can afford an original steel one... and have it colour matched too. But looking at the prices of these 'round tails'... I just think many sellers are asking too much; they're overvaluing their beloved Spits. One seller, who's car was identical to mine but in marginally better fettle, was asking for double the price I paid for Elmo.
Anyway, my wife has come round tot he fact that the car is a gem and even enjoys odd spins herself (as passenger, of course!) but does complain (rightly) about the odd oil stains on the drive. She should be sympathetic as my last Mk3 was sold eleven years ago to buy her engagement ring. It must have been love!
