@@REEEPROGRAM A frankly remarkable group of systems. Look into the "conquests" of India sometime, that wasn't even the UK army or navy proper (at least in full force). Mercenaries, buying off the local leaders or whomever had disliked whoever had been in power at the time, paying the local soldiery more than their countrymen, a whole host of plans, good luck and lots of Money. Both being earned and being spent. Crazy centuries those.
I remember my section singing this as we bravely marched off to attack the Headquarters Battery of the 2nd Division, Dromaius Novaehollandiae, a unit dubbed the "Butcher Brigade" owing to their fierceness. We never knew if we'd come back, but orders were orders. I miss those boys.
*remembers Gallipoli from BF1 and cries for the Australian soldier's heroic sacrifice* *cries more once we realise the battle was lost and his death was for nothing*
When I was young, this song make me feel patriotic for a country that I not live in When I was old enough, I realised this song is about a man drowning himself rather than rotting under the hand of corrupt authorities
@@activecamoflage6649 The Main Figure in This Song is A Man Named Samuel Hoffmeister He is a Minimum Wage Sheep Shearer He Protested By Burning A Sheep Barn Killing Many Sheeps And Stole A Sheep Because His Low Wages And He Escape To A Watering Hole That Was Called Combo Billabong And Camped There When He Was Spotted He Drowned Himself
The girl in the wallpaper is the vice commander of the Koala Girls Academy in GuP, the Australian themed school, her name is Wallaby and she is almost the same as another GuP character, Assam, the gunner of the Churchill 7 of St. Gloriana, the British themed school The actual commander is the Koala you see in the picture , believe it or not.
"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace... Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." - Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the foundimg father of the Republic of Turkey.
bit late, But I'll translate Jumbuck = Sheep Billy = A pot you put over a campfire Swagman = Travelling farm worker, Named after their sleeping gear called a "Swag" Swaggie = Shortened version of Swagman Tuckerbag = A bag for his food Tucker = food Billabong = Aboriginal word referring to lakes of water in the outback that form after rain. Some of them are particularly Trooper = Policemen
Wow, what a great song, this song gave me so many emotion from the mean of the lyrics and the music of it Edit: this Australian song such as this can tell so many kinds of story in it
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong Under the shade of a coolibah tree And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" He sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Down came a jumbuck to drink at the billabong Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker bag "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" And he sang as he stowed that jumbuck in his tucker bag "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Up rode the squatter, mounted on his thoroughbred Up rode the troopers, one, two, three "With that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?" "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" "With that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?" "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Up jumped the swagman and sprang into the billabong "You'll never take me alive", said he And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong "You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me" "Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, you'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
Greetings to ANZAC's from Turkey as Mustafa Kemal said: On the land of this country Heroes who shed their blood! Here you are on the soil of a friendly homeland Sleep in peace and tranquillity You are side by side with the Mehmetciks. the mothers who sent their sons from far away land! Soothe your tears, your children They are in our bosom, they are at peace And they will sleep peacefully After they gave their lives on this land They are now our children.
Noice Aussie stuff! I like it! It's really relaxing, and the more diverse nations, the better! Still going with my suggestion of a Nightcore Verdun on ne passe pas, but you already know that...
What's your country national animal? American: It's the bald eagle 🦅. It symbolises for our country's strength and power Chinese: It's the panda 🐼, since it only naturally spawn in China. Also they are adorable Australian: It's the Emu, and it's a pest! Also they are delicious!
Fun fact: While i was reading my late grandfathers old PNP (Philippine National Police) books (Its a PNP song list from 1996 according to what the book says), I stumbled upon "Waltzing Matilda" under "Songs from ASEAN and Environs " The lyrics is the exact same from the video and the book so no need to add in lyrics.
Yaaasss!!! Always played this song when playing British tanks in War Thunder. (Only cuz of one Australian tank in game ATM, and I am trying to get their ensignia)
i used to play this song while seal clubbing people with the matilda in WoT i have moved on from that game and now im your typical germany player in war thunder
I'm from the US and I actually heard about this song because I was in chorus when I was in school and we learned how to sing it for some reason unknown to me. But I'm having that moment when I realize that you know even though this song is technically in English it might as well be French for as much as I can understand what they're actually saying ha
A swag is a tent or bedroll(named Matilda in this song), a swagman is a homeless man, billy is small metal can to boil stuff, billabong is a creek, jumbuck is a male sheep the squatter owned the land. Very old terminology used in an 118 year old song
Matilda is aussie slang for a collapseable sleeping tent type thing, typically used by people who move around a lot and/or have to sleep outside (modern day homeless, in older times itinerant workers) Waltzing is just aussie slang for, ya know, travelling places on foot. The song is, as someone before me stated, about either a homeless man or former sheersman (or both, tbh) during the Great Sheersman Strike in the 1890's (which nearly caused an australian civil war before the premiere sent in the army) who poached a sheep due to being very hungry and needing food, and once the sheeps owner (the "squatter", aussie slang for landowner) found him along with some of those aformentioned military, he chose to commite suicide by drowning in a Billabong (aussie slang for small lake) rather than bow to the violance about to be perpotrated against him
Me who plays british ground forces trying to drive a Matilda up a hill: waltzing Matilda! Up rode the troopers one, two, three: me and the gang finally reaching the A point
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong Under the shade of a coolibah tree He said as he watched and waited 'till his billy boiled Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me? Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda You'll come a Waltzing Matila with me He sang as he watched and waited 'till his billy boiled You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee He laughed as he shoved that jumbuck in this tuckerbag You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. Down came the squatter mounted on this throughbred Up jumped the troopers, one, two, three Where's that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag? You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. The swagman he got up and jumped into that billabong You'll never catch me alive said he His ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong You'll come a Waltzing Matilda wih me.
"Waltzing Matilda" was actually one of the nicknames of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown CV-5, while her successor USS Yorktown CV-10 was nicknamed "The Fighting Lady."
"Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong-" "-Take on me- when I come around -take me on!" -Me, having only heard an excerpt of this song from another song.
lol the lines in the song are about a man stealing a sheep eating it getting caught by a wealthy landowner/cops and then killing himself in a lake to avoid punishment
Everybody makes fun of Australia for losing a war against Emus... Until they meet a live Emu up close and in person (And probably running TOWARDS you if you're that close)
Fun fact I was the one who waltzed matilda all those years ago, and I didn't die in that billabong....the jumbuck that I caught was infact an alien in which we soon after shot up to the saucer from underneath the waters edge. True story.
