I'm sure someone in the Lower East Side had a night like this recently. You have to make the effort. Every place they went was full of cigarette smoke. Tompkins Square Park was a giant homeless encampment. It's a lot safer and cleaner there now.

If you take cabs all the time over and over again its gets to be quite an expense. It's different if you're from out of town and dont use taxis very often. Then you should certainly have no problem giving a large tip. But every single time you take a taxi multiple times a day you aren't going to be tipping much. Just evening out. She could have real awful and asked for 7.50 back! I've heard of people doing shit like that and they should be kicked in the teeth. Also, miss Margie was young and starting out and living in expensive NYC back then. She probably didnt have anywhere near the money she has now.
