Well, it's not a first person game set in pitch blackness where the protagonist is too much of a chickenshit to pick up a plank of wood, so there's that.

That blue bar is your adrenaline. The big gimmick of this game was that the villain released an airborne plague or virus. I forget which. But the characters you play as are immune to it so long as they keep adrenaline up. If it empties completely, you die. I don't remember because I haven't played it in years, but i think you have unlimited adrenaline during boss fights.

I don't know who's doing the thumbnail edits for these videos, but they're honestly scarier than the games themselves. Dunno if that's false advertising or just a stroke of luck.

The first 2 minutes is actually a documentary shot inside Woolie's apartment.

The service Pat is talking about here is Gametap. In 2007 they announced they were working on Sega Saturn emulation with the intent of releasing Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, etc. on their weird streaming/digital download rental service. Then their parent company (Turner Broadcasting) sold them off in 2008 and I think some French company picked them up and the whole thing got flushed down the toilet. Gametap still technically exists, I think, but they are a pale shadow of what they were. In 2012, Gamespot's Giancarlo Varanini, who worked at Gametap in 2007, said on GiantBomb's podcast they actually had Panzer Dragoon Saga on PC working. (I decided to look all of this up, remembering only that Gametap was the service Pat was trying to remember)

This game is pretty rad, especially for the time, I remember watching my older sister playing it. I had forgotten up until recently what it was though. I just remembered a game with a women with a red shirt. It was dark and things jumped out at you. And that it wasn't parasite eve.

The cheats in this game were super fun. You could play as most of the monsters. This game is actually really good. Chopping up monsters is a blast, and the combat is solid all the way through. It's pretty much an arcade game you play at home. It's essentially a 3D beat-em-up.

I dunno what it is but I fucking love the shitstorm every year. Even if the games aren't scary the commentary is always on point. And this year has probably been my favorite since the first.

09:56 To be fair Pat, Toxic Crusaders was awesome, Almost as good as Bucky O' Hare. In an era where everyone in a cartoon had to be "pretty", Toxie and co were a breath of fresh air.

This game was and still is awesome. You would need shit tastes not to enjoy it at all. The OST in of itself in which you can play in your CD player on Halloween is worth the game.

"Lost to time like System Shock" That gives me a somewhat decent idea on just how early this was recorded, because System Shock is now available to buy on GOG (it came out September 22), and it's a version enhanced for modern PCs (I believe the controls and resolutions have been significantly updated, I haven't actually played it yet but it's on my GOG wishlist).

I played this game a lot as a child, and fun fact: All of the non-boss monsters are fully playable. Things like Zombies having back step, I guess, was so they could perform the same as player characters. It was a cheat code you could enter at the start menu, and each level had you play as a different monster. There was one little issue: As you progress normally through the game you can pickup weapon upgrades that let you chop up and dismember monsters. Later on, these are required to beat certain enemies/obstacles (I can't remember exactly which), but you couldn't pick up the weapons as a monster. So you'd get stuck if you weren't using the Level Select cheat. (Or you could just use the Buzzsaw item, I think.) I really like fun little things like that, and wish that more companies would do it these days. (Well, if they do it's DLC.)

I loved Nightmare Creatures 2, but I doubt you guys will ever play it since the Rob Zombie music rights would put RU-vid's panties in a bunch.

Matt's pretty dang good at this game, honestly. This game's not very easy, and while I think it's aged incredibly well for a horror-action PS1 title, the controls are less than perfect.

Aw yasss, 'Soul Reaver' is one of my absolute favourite games of all time. It's so great.

With the buzz saw power-up and Ignatius's staff, you can do a vertical attack that lops off the werewolf's arms. Once _disarmed_ the werewolf can't attack so it just hilariously breaths at you menacingly.

I'm soooo glad you finally played Nightmare Creatures, this game is fucking metal. My only regret is that I always played the second one based on the look of the main character and the weapons, and overlooked the first one, even tho the second game controls are worse; yet this one looks really good.

Victorian English-centric Horror is a pretty untapped market. A Steampunk horror adventure game would be amazing if done properly, someone with far more talent than us should really get on that.

Oh Panzer Dragoon, how the world misses thee

Blue bar is an adrenaline meter if I remember correctly. The idea was that the plague Crowley releases is saved off by adrenaline and if you aren't hyped up from fighting you'll slowly die from it. Also there's a block button. I can't not say something, forgiveness please.

Does anyone else kinda actually want to see a full LP of this? Like it's actually scaring Matt a bit, Pat's getting either sarcastically or realistically hype from Matt's fights and I kinda want to see the other monsters.

My older brother owned this game. I remember we found the password to let you play as the monsters. Sometimes you got crappy ones like a zombie but I remember those rocky gorilla dudes pretty keenly.

Every time you are playing a game, and the defeated enemies disappear...those are the rats from Nightmare Creatures spiriting them away. Just remember that.

I love how the menu screen shows characters whose faces are nothing more than a mess of blurry pixels. The good ol' days. :p

Nightmare Creatures sounds like a comic book series that would look like those Malibu Mortal Kombat comics or Spawn, but faded into obscurity like a pebble in a sandbox.

Matt, if your controller is dirty, what you need to do is take a q-tip, dip it into some windex, wipe off the excess, then get in there and clean the connections to your controller. Let it dry, and your controller should be fine from then on.

I played the demo of this game maybe 18 years ago ago and still remember there was supposed to be a buzzsaw powerup in a hidden room in the cellar :D

Actually, the Windows 95 version of Panzer Dragoon was fully made and was sold at retailers. It most notably came with a Sega Saturn equivalent graphics card for PC that also came with Virtua Fighter 2 and some racing game. It's also easy to find on Amazon and Ebay.

Oh God I remember this fucking game! I had the demo disc and it only had the first level in it, you couldn't pick your character, and the demo never actually ended, you just eventually died or ran out of enemies and had to quit. Didn't sell me on the game at all, not that I ever saw it anywhere, ever. Effing Blockbuster.

it's actually hilarious how literally this is just bloodborne but the completely cheesy version, where they're just grabbing random horror monsters and not trying to make them feel like a coherent part of a unique world.
