So do you do every position ? Like delivering meds to the floor, IVs , compounding ? You never just work in one area ?

Hi! Depends with your work's workflow. Graves in this video, technicians need to be well- rounded since there is less staff at night. Usually, day shift you work in one area and then you rotate the next day with your colleagues, can be a whole day in one area or a whole week. 😀

@@PharmTech_TN okay, so do you have to be trained or certified to work in the IV room or do Compounding? I heard that with the pharmacy technician certification you can only work as a tech , like you can’t do compounding or IVs unless you get trained on the job for it or you get a certification for those two areas , is that true ?

@@mayal8152 Hi! Certification wasn't required for me (depends on each employer and state), only training in order to compound IVs. Some places give you extra money for being certified, need to ask your HR or Pharmacy management :)

Hi! I work in California. Give yourself time and patience for sterile compounding. Although it's not for everyone, it's a really great experience to have to put on your resume. Depends on the company, pay rate increase by having sterile compounding. Thanks for watching 🙂 Happy holidays 🎄💫

It personally took me 3 years including externship to get into a hospital setting. It also depends on who you know aka connections. Easier to be hired from your externship (pharm tech school is contracted with) usually includes hospital setting.

Some hospitals have trainee programs. My local children’s and women hospital has a pharmacy technician trainee program. I’m in the lower part of Alabama and the starting pay during the 4mo training is $13, then $15 once you’re done and $17 once you’re certified. And of course it goes up with experience

Also some hospitals don’t require pharmacy techs to have experience so some are lucky enough to get hired either during school or right after
