Tuomas creates such an atmosphere with those first notes on his keyboard, then Marko comes in singing-speaking like that, ufff... It feels so dark, yet so great, they always take the songs they play to a whole new level, all of them being so invested on it, Marko's loooong notes, Jukka on that "marching" drum followed by Emppu's solos, then Tuomas again with those haunting keyboard notes? Just, amazing

Old Metal Rock head here saw Pink Floyd three times also a big Nightwish fan as you know. This is not a cover it’s a tribute to Pink Floyd suggested by Marko because Tarja had a complicated costume change and Marko is a huge fan of Pink Floyd. Your not wrong in liking Nightwish version over Pink Floyd’s because I myself love this Tribute because Nightwish made it their own inspired by the love of Pink Floyd! Nightwish, they are always good, no matter if they play their own song or a cover song. Their talent and stage charisma!!! Living with music! 😊 The "Tarja era" was a time when they often did cover songs, because Tarja changed clothes several times during the concert. So the boys then played something else. Like this song. Ozzy Osbourne cover "Crazy Train" is also good! Marko singing again! 😊 Speaking of cover songs, Nightwish just released a new version of the cover song "Phantom of the Opera" on their RU-vid channel. This time the singers are Floor Jansen and Henk Poort. Absolutely awesome!!! 😍

One of the things that make this performance even more powerful to me is the fact that this was the last show with their original singer, Tarja. There was a lot of turmoil within the band at that time, and at the end of that show, Tarja was going to be handed her dismissal letter, a fact that was known by all members of the band (except her). Thus, this particular show has a special vibe. It could have been the final show of Nightwish as a band, the night their High Hopes were dashed.

I won't stone you, Jynger, because I think you're right. This tribute (it's more than a cover) is better than the original and I love both bands. A Marko-gasm is a thing, indeed. Marko released a solo album in 2020 (English version: Pyre of the Black Heart and Finnish version: Mustan Sydämen Rovio). Some great songs on it, like Stones and The Voice of my Father (breathtakingly beautiful, but a difficult one as the title already suggests). There are videos of those songs here on RU-vid. And then...this reactor, reacting to Nightwish....DAMN!...that's all I got to say! Love your reaction!

Aahh finally, you did it!!! Yay!! I fell in love with this first time I heard it, and it's definitely the Nightwish song I've played the most since discovering them. I hate covers generally (this is a tribute btw), and was hesitant at first because I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but oh my shit this one is good. I agree re High Hopes plus "Dark Silent Complete" with Floor from Buenos Aires 2018... the whole show infact with Floor breathing new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band 😊👍

However often I hear this, and it must be over a hundred times now, it never fails to give me shivers. Most people who react to this say it's better than the original. It's a tribute not a cover and is (or was) linked on Pink Floyd's own website with praise from the band. This is the ultimate Marco, but check him out with Northern Kings and his solo work on the album Pyre of the Black Heart. Marcogasm is a well-known and documented fact.

This is simply a great piece of Nightwish history. It's rare to see a cover played that does such a great job of honoring the original song. Marko's voice is perfection here. I'm glad you were familiar with the Pink Floyd original. While others may favor the original, I'm with you on this one. . . Nightwish's version is stronger. Tarot - Tides (Live - undead indeed). Marco's first band (formed 1982). Marco was lead singer/basisist. Legendary band and pioneers of heavy rock in Finland!

This is exactly the thing I'm always thinking when I watch this performance. This song was part of the final show that Tarja performed with Nightwish and it was immediately after this show the band gave her the letter but asked her to read it next day. Every member of the band shown in this video knows that they are going to fire their lead singer after this show. And I think it shows in their facial expressions every now and then.

Marko has performed with Delain over the years and may have been their producer at one time. Also 'Ashes to the Stars' from Tarot. He is lead singer/bass & his brother is the guitarist. 'Truth shall set you free' is my favourite from his solo album.

Well, maybe you should widen your horizon a bit. For me the best on the guitar is Jan Akkerman. Focus was the band he played in. Thanks Jynger❤ You're not the first, certainly not the last, to appreciate Marco's passionate interpretation of an amazing Floyd tune. And certainly won't be the last to rate NIGHTWISH'S tribute ahead of the original. Marco just left it all on the stage. I never doubted for a second how you would react. This band has so many surprises... that shouldn't surprise us. But what Marco did was just.... keep searching for the right superlative...SOARING vocally. Took your heart right out of your chest and carried it to the rafters on that wave of emotion. I saw you holding your breath and when he launched into that final chorus... the tension is palpable. What the band was going through that night, was stuff of legend. They were firing Tarja that very night. And very publicly. They had an Open Letter written and published to Tarja AND their fans to be delivered after the show. This specific show is seminal in the arc of Nightwish. AND everyone, except Tarja, knew it would be. Like I said, emotions were raw.

What makes this performance so extraordinary is the fact that Jukka suffered a murderous migraine attack that night due to his permanent insomnia. You can see that very well as he always bends over his drums.

As always a lovely reaction! I've seen this literally a thousand times and I never tire of it (like the Nightwish songs too) - the question I always ask myself is 'why' - it's difficult to put your finger on - but I think with this particular song you could see and feel the passion they collectively have for this song - 3/4's of the way through it, I get such a massive chill running down my spine - I looked at your face at this moment and you started to smile as if to say 'what can you do, this is almost perfection!" - only a guess at your thoughts of course but I don't think I'm far wrong am I? This 'End of an Era' show was on fire - 'The Phantom of the Opera' , 'Wishmaster' and this song were Tarja's final show - so maybe they wanted to make it one to remember! Sorry, I do go on a bit 😆 As always take good care of yourself friend 😃

You absolutely HAVE TO check out "Tarot - Wings Of Darkness" Marco's first band I think, the song was recorded in 1987, the year I was born.. and HOLY HELL is it weird yet amazing to see how Marco looked like as a young kid almost :D Great reaction as well, definitely Marcogasmic \m/ Forgot to mention that there is a recorded version of their song Wings Of Darkness as well, from 2007 or so? Love it! Thank you! Glad you made it to this one! More than a cover - a tribute! Even the lighting! Both Emppu and Tuomas singing along! I turned a life long Pink Floyd fan (since Syd Barrett daze - pun intended!) into a Nightwish fan with this song - played the audio to him and he demanded that I play it again - three times! Then he had to get the video - "End of An Era".

@@robertbrown8576 No, he has had a few interviews why he left. Seems to me it was time for him to spend more time with his family and newborn child. I feel he just didn't want to go on the Human Nature tour and be gone for a whole year. He didn't want all that hassle and traveling anymore, and I'm sure he has $millions$ stashed away. He also had some anxiety and depression problems. He is relaxed now and lives by his own agenda. I just wish he would of participated in the Virtual World concert in 2021 and then left.

Don’t stone my either, and I love Floor, but I’m not sure of the term ‘Floorgasm’ any more. I think the music itself provides the rush we all feel at times, regardless of who the singer is. Certain songs sung by Tarja and Anette have sent shivers down my spine, just as Marco does here. But I don’t think I’m saying anything true Nightwish fans don’t know. It’s the music, played by this incredible band, in all of its configurations.

Its way better than the original. Couldnt agree more. This is an epic masterpiece tribute to Pink Floyd. Marco is awesome but Jukka on the drums is absolutely on fire in this one. Favourite drummer of all time for me. The rest of the band... Well they speak for themselves. Perfection all the way around.

You got to check out Marko in his band Tarot, and anything off of the "pyre of a black heart" album, pacifically the song called "Stones" and "Voice Of My Father"
