I think he just hypnotized her with his eyes and she became a nervous wreck. It's like she hardly knew what the next question was. Still enjoyed it though.
It's like she has no idea about who she's talking to: I'd say it was amatereurish, but a lot of Faceculture's work has been high quality and good at drawing the interview out of the interviewee. This was badly prepared and badly executed.
Alan Frize I think a language barrier also added to the awkwardness. I am really perplex why many magazines/companies assign interviews to interviewers who are not adequately proficient in the language of their subject. I remember an interview NW had a few years ago where the poor band spent most of the air time trying to decipher what the interviewer was asking!
Margo Belle-Fleur I'd agree - I got the feeling she had a lot of problems with English, it would have been better to either have a native speaker or have the interview in Finnish and have it subtitled. One thing that annoys me is that there a lot of us who wait eagerly to hear about our favourite bands and artists and this was a let down. I appreciate that she was trying her best, but wouldn't it have been better to have her work with a native speaker who has more experience?
Johannes Mikkola Dude, I get that, my point is that maybe they should have used someone who speaks Finnish instead then translated it in the subtitles.
Sad the interviewer wasnt as good as we wished but dont be so rude we got 20 minutes watching Tuomas's eyes, smiles and expressions, then his voice... To me is already a delight so Thanks FaceCulture for this. I totally want mooooooore
I think this was actually a really good interview.. Because she digged deeper, which made Tuomas explain in ways I havent seen before! It's fascinating to se how well thought out he is about his own filosophy. There are alot of people in the world answering stuff just because there is a trend that you should answer like this or like that, and if you'd try to dig deeper there would be no substance. But here you can clearly see how individual and inteligent Tuomas is! Since he normaly is kinda sparing on words (compared to what he clearly could be) this was really intresting. Minus, on him at times feeling forced, but hey, that made it evident that even when forced he shows a really true filosophic foundation.
respect to his professionalism, if a reporter like her would interview me like that, i would say her, please take your time think about the questions you want to ask and come again later.
yeah she is so annoying, I can't enjoy this interview at all, she is like -why do you like To read Walt Whitman's books?, why? can you eat it?, who is Whitman? is he tall, why is he tall ? ahahahah fuck, so annoying
StormyCruger I don't either. I think the band sounded it's best with Tarja, but there's only so much a man can put up with before enough is enough. I think it's clear from all his interviews that he is actually a really nice, down to earth guy.
did anyone watch the entire interview? FaceCulture get a proper interviewer - she ruined the interview! You get Tuomas Holopainen for 20+ mins and she trashed it... grrrrrr
Completely agree. This interviewer just blew it. Not gonna pick on the interviewer's english knowledge, but she just gave the impression that she wasn't even prepared to do an interview. Add the "not-so-good" english, with that, then you have the ingredients for a disasterious interview. Wonder what went through Tuomas' head during the interview
Moon Moon I'm pretty sure her English is fine as apparently FaceCulture are neighbors of mine in Amsterdam and I must admit that Dutch people speak very good English :) So, yeah, she must have been excited to talk to Tuomas :) Anyways... will try to watch the other interviews, maybe they turned out better
This interview is in the same time painfull to watch but still really interesting. I don't know was she really nervous, unprepared or were there language barrier, but her questions were often so simply (why you think like that, how did it effect etc.) that Tuomas really had to think his answers.
Interviewer isn't really good but I like Tuomas very much. He's a really kind and intelligent person. He's very patient with the interviewer too. I'd have yelled at her to bloody tell me what she wants or fuck off by now.
what the hell? i feel like i am watching a religious person grill this guy as to why he likes various books and she even had the audacity to ask him what actions does he take to try to leave the world a better place then he found it..WHAT?! also asking like "why is the book comforting to carry with you"? after he explained what its all about.. and also asking why he thinks evidence is the way to go.. wtf ...this isnt a religious debate, where are all the questions about the music!?!?
Not to be a smartass, but... _Robert_ _Frost_ (Not Walt Whitman) TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. _Words_ _to_ _live_ _by_.
this reminds me of when i saw saw some shrink in school and it was like her first day at work and there was some construction going on and we couldn't talk for shiet because of the noice and she was blushing and being nervous xD
I think some people thought or was at least under the impression he was a Christian or at least toyed with the idea. I doesn't bother me one way or the other. I love the band for there entertainment value not for there faith in science or God
I can't decide if this is a language issue, or does the interviewer have some weird politics? She interviews Floor on the same occasion and seems to go after her for not writing on EFMB - like she's letting the side down for feminism. Rather strange but Tuomas and Floor both coped well.🇬🇧🤘🤘
To all future journalist: This is what a 'bad' interview sounds like. This poor guy is really trying to be a good sport about it but fuck all ! One stupid question after another. I applaud Tuomas's patience and professionalism for not losing his shit and walking away in the middle. lmao
I have to be honest, the first question annoyed me. It's kind of like she's trying to lead him toward saying either " fuck religion" or " god is real" I'm an Atheist personally and I actually completely agree with the first sentiment but I find these kinds of obviously leading questions to be annoying. Despite the albums " beauty of science and imagination WITHIN that science backed view " kind of message, I dont think the direction she was going there was relevant. It was poorly disguised as if it was though, I guess THATS what annoyed me.
Come on, is ti possible that you couldn't find some other place for interview and other interviewer, she is terrible? Is it language problem, or she doesn't prepared so well, but this is not so professional.
The interviewer isn't very good. She needs to be prepared better with the questions so they sound natural like a conversation. Please watch Parkinson and his interviews.
Its good that he believes in only following what is evidenced, and I agree that everyone should be that way, but if he is a science freak he believes alot of theories that are not only unprovable, but have plenty of counter-evidence. I don't like to call him a hypocrite, but if you only believe in things that are proven, you would have to become a Christian, and hes clearly not.
Tara Russell I think all those "evidence based" Darwinist and Science advocates (such as Tuomas) would like to erase the idea of creationism but there is always this underlying mystery that maybe the world was created by a higher power that we can and never fully comprehend. And yes, I am a Gothic Christian as well. I will be going to their concert in early 2016.
Mtaalas I understand why you would think that. The media has maligned Americans internationally, but we really aren't like that. Of course, every country has it's crazy religious factions, but the majority here in the US are quite sane. Anyone who would stop listening to Nightwish because of this, probably wasn't really a fan to start with. It's fine to be religious (not my circus), but to quell all discussion on the subject is immoral, cowardly and brings to mind The Inquisition.
She sucks. From her pronounciation to planning, secureness, Dutch 'ehm's and not even finishing your sentences. Ugh. Ive seen all three interviews, Floor, Marco and Tuomas... I'm ashamed of my own language XD you can hear she's Dutch, and it's so bad she pronounces 'thought' as 'fought' XD Only reason I kept watching is the intelligence of the bandmembers.
Hmm looks like Tuomos should of steered away from Dawkins rubbish. "The evolutionary case for genetics is unraveling from multiple levels as it was never based on ANY empirical evidence to begin with" Dr Nathaniel jeanson ph.D in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University. Evolution... true faith.
I totally agree ! all this shit about evolution, global warming, atoms, other galaxies, mental illness, the earth going round the sun. And apparently the sea has salt in it. My tap runs frest water !! All bullshit and these moronic scientist need to stop polluting good musicians.
