NIGHTWISH Singer's 'Ever Dream' Audition Demo HD 

Tuomas said this demo was pretty much the golden standard they compared the other 2000+ applicants to, and no one matched up. I think all the Anette haters can just suck it up and think about just who Nightwish is... oh yeah... 5 band members, not just one chick with a good voice. It was their choice, and I think they made a good one (and so do they!!).

Tuomas founded band Nightwish, he writes all the music and lyrics and HE know the best how they should sound

I believe anette once said this is her favourite Nightwish song, and you can tell from the effort she put into this demo! As much as I love Tarja (and I still do!) Im glad anette is in the band now, I like her too :D im one of those far too rare Nightwish fans who literally likes every single nw song, anette and tarja :)

Every singer has their own style & the music is there to compliment. Annette added a dimension with her talent & gregarious nature to win the hearts of fans. NW music just gets more mature and better like a fine wine.

I love the original too, but this is a fantastic cover! I see now why Tuomas commented about how awesome her different take on the ending section was~~~

In my opinion she sings the end of the song better than Tarja!!! Of course its just a demo, so the singing is not as perfect as on an album version, but at the end she sings with so much emotion, it sounds so warm and human... gives me shivers *_*

When they where looking for singers to replace Tarja Tuomas decided that he did NOT want another classically trained singer like Tarja. It was really him and I think Annette was great!

This is so beautiful I'm so glad they chose Anette over elize...I'll be honest I heard elize' nemo and I didn't like it, she's amazing in amaranthe tho! If they hadn't chosen Nettie we wouldn't have dpp and Imaginaerum as we know it, amaranthe and probably floor wouldn't be now in the band. They were obviously looking for a complete different style than tarja's

I love Anette and Tarja too. If people don't like Anette's voice, they should just listen to the old Nightwish songs and Tarja's solo material.

This pretty much one of the only songs that i liked with Tarja ,it is an amazing song.Tarja sang this live it was spellbinding. Annette does an amazing job here with the song and just affirms the reason i lover her voice and versatility.

Thank you, someone gets it...I enjoy the fact there are technically two nightwishes now, I enjoy them as a whole, not just because of ONE member...nightwish is awesome, end of story.

So I have to say that, before deleting my whole account. THIS is the version of Ever Dream I prefer over all. I love Tarja's version in NEW YORK (I don't like her in End of an Era), I love Floor's version too... but this version of ever Dream is what I prefer most. I know why she was choosen: this song is pure feeling. I have the luck of having a very extended vocal range, so I can do easily the three versions of ever Dream, but that is what I prefer to sing. Of couse, I've also arranged it in my version, but also for my version that is my principal source of inspiration.

I love this, she is such a talented singer, I cant wait wait for the new album!!!

I just don't understand how Anette was chosen over Elize. She took an easier song, she ruined the intro with that echo metally abomination, her range is much lower... I think it's true, Tuomas loved Tarja and when he knew that they could never be... He wrote this song for her. It'd also explain why the open letter was also attacking her husband. My only explanation is this song just plucked at Tuomas' heart strings.

That incorrect double 'with me' instead of the second 'without me' and [i:]ver insted of [e]ver was stolen from Tarja. :)

I don't know about the person above, but I prefer Tarja--not even slightly prefer, STRONGLY prefer Tarja--and I say Imaginaerum rocks! I can only hope the other fans who share my preference also love Imaginaerum. It's an excellent album. I also adore the songs that get hated on, i.e. "Slow, Love Slow" (my jaw fell open when I heard Anette sing this) and "Let Loose the Mermaids," which is my fave song off the new CD and sounds like Blackmore's Night, another band I love.

Floor was already famous, it's not the same... Also there was a lot of trash talk, people who never heard of her were complaining.

They loved her voice after this one, but didn't want to hire her, because she had a child already. She never gave up and kept nagging them with 3 other demos, which convinced Tuomas of her dedication. One of them was Higher Than Hope.. I would LOVE to hear that one so much!!

@RoyalGuard503 Hi, It looks like we are starting that "Whose voice is longer " disput again 8). When I said "angel" I didn't mean her personality. I don't know her personally, but If I had voice like her's I would be ambitious to. Tarja has a gift. I think you can't be born with average voice and grow it to the opera level. You have to be born with the ability. Her voice in NW songs gave them Epic ballades or Opera sound, where voice or visper is strong like a High Chant. - to be continued

If she sounded this good singing the song live, I don't think anyone would complain. But that was not the case. There's a reason why all the crowd lost their collective shit the minute Floor took the mic. She's a much better singer and it was painfully obvious from the first note. And that's not opinion; that's a demonstrable fact.

Oh I'm stunned. You said your opinion and although you respect my opinion it's so rare on youtube to find an intelligent person, I'm glad that I have written that comment to you. Yeah Imaginearum is a masterpiece, it would be totally different with Tarja, more powerfull (but songs like Slow Love Slow hmm I wonder how it would sound) but the idea of the album is to be a soundtrack or something like ten videos sum up in long one so Anette fit to that idea perfectly.

Blackmore's Night is a medieval-inspired folk rock group started by none other than Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and fronted by his wife, Candice Night, who looks and sounds similar to Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks. On "Let Loose the Mermaids," Annette sounds remarkably similar to Candice from their early work, i.e. Under A Violet Moon CD. And the music is so similar I wonder if Tuomas was listening to them and got inspired. :P

I discover Nightwish with the song Eva, and it means I discover Anette´s Nightwish. And I love the band, so it means something.

She did well with the demo tape, but even better in some live concerts where she sings it softly, like here in Colmar: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AHjODzOSQ8k.html I find this often to be case: when songs are sung many times, they become better. If songs were recorded after tours, I think they might be even better on albums.

The end of the song... well, at least it's an interesting try to cover that she's uncapable of belting out those high notes. Not bad though, but I wonder why she (they?) insisted on her sigining the original version in live, which she miserably failed, every time.

@RoyalGuard503 - Continuing. Anette's voice didn't have that Great Hall or Opera strength, but in same time she singing smoothier, sort of physically closer, more personal to listener. I like their music and I like to listen old songs with Tarja and new album with Anette. I think Dark Passion Play was writen for Anette's voice and sounds good and waiting for Imaginaerum.

Anette sings this song as a woman not Angel, not Goddess, but human, a woman you can feel, touch, kiss. - Song feels differently - smoothier.

lol, sadly its used for nearly everything now especially when making albums. But ive been to 2 nightwish concerts and Anette has an impressive live voice.

@guffepuffe So you are saying it is not Anette sings in Dark Passion Play, then WHO ? It is not really matter to me when they wrote the music or recording of instrument parts. I said that I like her voice in DPP. Anette is a singer not composer.

There were some factors at play. Tuomas said already in 2007 that Nightwish didn't want a new opera voice, since it would automaticaly be a "Tarja coppycat". So they already decided to do it 100 degrees different. Anette fits in realy well in that rock-pop picture. They new the danger of re-writing songs and critic from fans, and the band took the risk. However, I think that around 2010-2011, when they wrote Imagiaerum, they discovered that Anette lacked the pure power Tuomas writing has.

Why the heck would Anette want to be a classical singer? She's a heavy metal singer, and a damn good one. Tarja is best suited to classical songs. Anette is best suited to heavy songs. Have you heard her sing Heart Full of Fire with Brother Firetribe? Tarja could never pull that off. Just like Anette could never pull off Deep Silent Complete (one of my favorite songs, and yes, I miss it). They're two different vocal styles. People who compare Tarja and Anette make no sense at all.

In my opinion, Anette sounds here better than in concerts, what about the Ever Dream song. Anyway, her coming to Nightwish would not be such a shock for me if I had heard this demo as her first public performance :)

...either that, or there was a communication breakdown between her and the band (which they all state is the case, no one was communicating effectively at the time); and then Tuomas honest to god believed or convinced himself that Tarja was being a diva by canceling concerts that she was only informed of last minute, with no way to get there on time. All the reasons he gave sounded like him trying to justify his decision to the public and to himself. No bad guys here, just misunderstandings.

I LOVE IT!!! It has a purer sounds and ONCE AGAIN more emotion, at least for me.

Oh yeah and I'm only asking about "Eramaan Viimeinen" out of curiosity because most Nightwish fans seem to detest that song unless it's the instrumental, and it's pretty much my favorite NW song. Someone said something like, "If a geisha muppet sang NW this is how it would sound." Jonsu kind of does sound like a geisha muppet...and it effing rocks. :P Tuomas thought so too or why did he produce 2 of Indica's albums and get Jonsu to sing his song. Yeah.

@guffepuffe even to Anette is hard to sing the DPP song's! It sounds great with her voice, but if it was written to suit her voice (as Imaginaerum does) it was sound so much perfect!!!

Great song and a great, more AOR-style version of it. I like it a lot and I can see why Tuomas and the rest of the band liked it. The harmonies at the end are... interesting. I think I still prefer the original, but this is a really good interpretation of it.

I like this version pretty much. At least I prefer Tarja's but... Yep. Serious people. After listening to this: Anette IS a very good singer. Not comparable with Tarja. They just sing in different styles. So enjoy this masterpiece of music!

after classical training most of the singers end up around the same level which doesn't make them one of a kind and you can't really deny that tarja was carried by nightwish on the other hand anette was selected as the only one for nightwish though her age or her kid between over 2000 people. i'm not against either of them but some people overestimating tarja that much is just wrong.

That autotune killed me, exept that she has nice voice

It's not about the mix or the production; it's about range, and Annette simply doesn't have it. I will give her credit though, as I just watched a live video from May of this year where she did this song and she did pretty good. She sang it in a way that fits her range. Doesn't screech the chorus any more, but still struggles a bit. I don't blame her though, I blame Tuomas. She's not a soprano; she could never hope to hit those notes. He should've known she would struggle with the old stuff.

It's too metallic, you know... As if you auto-tuned your own voice using a phone app and then editted a little over it.

Anette turns the epic style of the original song into a melodic rock with her talkative vocals. As well, this version has not the atmospheric sounds of the original one.

I can't believe that Anette doubled (or tripled?!) her voice even on her demo tape. This is what I really didn't like about the recorded albums with her, that her voice always was doubled. Was she ashamed of how her voice sounds, or why did she do it?!
