And gave them some info about NW. This was her favorite song. And this song belongs to her. I like very much that Gabriel have continue Ann s work.... so her heritage is still here.
As you already know this song is a tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman and his style ,made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. The poem at the end is Tuomas's tribute to Walt Whitman who wrote the poem called Song of Myself. It was spliced onto the end of the song by a fan to match the studio version. The words are being displayed on the video wall behind the band. Your choice to leave it off.

Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. Another band I think you will like is Within Temptation, they are Dutch and have another wonderful singer in Sharon den Adel. I`ve been listening to them for over 20 years and found Nightwish because of them. I`m in the US and we do not have any such band`s like them!!
I may get shot down in flames for this, but aren’t Evanescence kinda sorta maybe possibly perhaps probably somewhat similar to Within Temptation? Can’t believe I’m doing the very same thing I make fun of “Amerkin” reactors for, but at least I’m not comparing NW to “Eva..”.😁
Nightwish is a genre all unto themselves. Many other great symphonic metal bands have come close, but no one really compares. Their sound is very distinctive because of Nordic fairy magic 😁
JuliettJess, some how I've missed your channel. I like watching people do reactions to Nightwish, Spiritbox, Jinjer, and Ad Infinitum. This is the first time you've popped up in my feed. There's a few other bands I'm kinda surprised you haven't gotten around to checking out. Epica. They are a symphonic metal band with many similar characteristics to Nightwish but have a different sound overall. They tend to be heavier. Since you're familiar with Floor check out the song Sancta Terra where she makes a guest appearance with Epica. Unleash the Archers. They are a Canadian power metal band. Courtney's belting vocals will melt your face off. Start with the song "Awakening" and follow that you with "Tonight We Ride". Ayreon. This is not really a band. Ayreon is a music project by a guy named Arjen. He writes all the music and lyrics. He goes out and gets the musicians he needs. He pulls lead singers from different metal bands. Each album is like a movie. Each song is like a scene in the movie. Each singer is a different character. Start with the song "The Day that the World Breaks Down". This one song has 11 different singers including Simone from Epica and one other you're familiar with but I won't mention who. Bloodywood. This is an Indian Folk metal band. They blend traditional Indian music with metal. The verses are usually done in English and the chorus in Hindu. Start with their newest song "Nu Delhi". I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics. Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. ❤

One of my top 10 favorite song, sadly it is not preformed live much. Floor in 2013 was killing it here as I think this was her first festival as the new singer. Watch concerts from 2015, 2018 and the Hellfest 2022 concert , she is better, if that`s possible!! And I think you said Tuomas singing but It was Marko. I watch their concert`s every Saturday night and have been doing that for many years, truly the greatest band in the world. Just subscribed to follow you through your journey with this band I`ve loved for over 15 years.
Ive only seen 1 song on par with Wacken 2013 and that was I Want My Tears Back in Argentina in 2018 i think the year was lol . Wacken by a long way the best concert of Nightwish in my opinion

@@JuliettJess No problem. The actual live performance had ended. The video used was a fan created one in tribute to the late Ann Waychoff, the Mother of the Nightwish Army. She started the tradition of welcoming new reactors with a bit of Nightwish history and info, a tradition nobly continued by Gabriel in her honor. Song of Myself was her favorite song and this video takes the live performance from Wacken and splices the audio from the spoken word section on the album with the lyrics on the video.

Nah, I disagree. The ending is nice for those who are already dedicated fans. For those who are just getting into NW, hearing their stuff for the first time, it's too much.
And you think I meant to do that? I don't want to assume but I make my content pretty clear on what I do on this channel, but I go in unknowingly to each song.. no one 'warned me' about missing out the ending of the song. So apologies.
