This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I saw Nightwish live in Birmingham UK in November 2022. They are awesome. I've seen many, many top bands, and I never thought anyone could top Iron Maiden and Muse, Nightwish proved me wrong, just mesmerising.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on RU-vid. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered RU-vid in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Texas retired teacher and Nightwish fan checking in. Great reaction! I'm interested in having you react to two songs. First, react to Ghost Love Score as it emphasizes the symphonic side of the band almost in a progressive rock sort of way with all the tempo and section changes. Second, react to Romanticide as it showcases the harder side of the band. And I'll throw this third one in as well. Back in 2005, the 4 guys, without their lead singer of that time, did a "tribute" to Pink Floyd and performed High Hopes. Not a cover. The word "tribute" is a better term. I did get to see Nightwish in OKC twice. Once with Anette and once with Floor. Small venue so you could get all the way around to watch Jukka play the drums from behind.
As you have discovered, Floor is an Enchantress. The exploration of Nightwish is a journey that will enthrall you like no other. There is so much variety and so many nuances to their music ... and their live performances are, in my opinion, simply breathtaking. Listening to, and especially watching Nightwish, I'm usually either grinning like a maniac or wiping a tear out of my eye. No recommendations from me, you can't go wrong following Gabriel's advice. The basic rule of thumb is Nightwish live is best. There are a few songs like Shoemaker and Tribal that are good lyrical videos.
Great first reaction to THE BAND and THE QUEEN. Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied. I know you have lots of fun in the next months as I know how huge the catalog of songs is and there is no song that could give you a bad feeling. Well, glad you appreciate the band :) When I was young, I was not into Metal (just listened two Iron Maiden Albums in the 80s). But Nightwish is the band who brought me into the genre in the late 90s !

A big welcome to the Nightwish Universe, from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 I can assure you that you haven't got a clue of the versatility of Nightwish's stories - and Floor's capabilities. Every song is a mind blowing experience for mind, soul and ears. The lyrics are poetic complexed stories written to be individually interpreted. The composition of the music are buildt to enhance the stories - and Floor..... She is unique - but I will let your experience that youself.
That's a fine reaction. My personal opinion is, the more off-the-cuff, the better. But this is your channel (I don't have to guts to put my face out on the net, mush less venture an opinion or two). The standard list of songs you will be presented with is a fine one, and Gabriel usually says it's just a suggested order (in other words, follow your emotions and you can't go wrong). Many might reflexively state that you should try Ghost Love Score next, BUT as you are a player, I think we need to keep your musicianship entertained and engaged. I might suggest you try the Wacken opener (Dark Chest of Wonders) next... this gives you a feel for the energy level this concert started on... it was also just the second European concert with Floor in the vocalist's position (she had been on tour with them for approx 10 months prior to this concert, in N.A., South America, and other continents. After that I might suggest Romanticide, or Ghost River, as it introduces another talented singer alongside Floor. And then "I want My Tears Back", as a way of easing in the OTHER member of Nightwish. You kinda started with the wrong song. This song was written for their second singer Annette who has a way more contemporary pop-rock voice. To make it fit they had to make the songs lean more pop-rock. This is still an amazing song, Nightwish doesnt make bad songs period, but its not ideal to start with if you wanna get a good feel for the band. Nightwish is extremely versatile, no two songs sound alike, almost all of them have its own sound, this song being a prime example but if youve heard two or three of their songs meant for Floor (or Tarja who has a very similar style) this song becomes a fresh, new, different sound but as an outlier rather than a frame of refference. Normally people start with _-_*_Ghost Love Score._* Which IS probably their best introduction song Then *_Romanticide_* followed by *_Storytime_* or another one in between and then Storytime. No one has to follow that order ofc, its not like there is a rule or anything 🤣 But it useually works out pretty well. Nightwish is a very unique band, in a sense theyre almost musical theatre, theyre always telling a story and its often very personal lyrics and in some cases there is a timeline of events IN the songs. If you just pick songs on random without understanding Nightwish youre gonna miss out on alot. You only get one chance at a first impression. For example, listening to *_The Poet and The Pendulum_* without knowning the band will rob you of one of the most important experinces with the band. Storytime is not a particularly important song so in that manner, so you havnt screwed up, dont worry 😛 *_The General_* (Gabriel Bardac) will probably drop in on you within a day or so, he will provide you with all you need to know. ______________________________ Welcome to The Army
As a very big Nightwish fan, it seems to me that we as a fanbase should not make it too military, after all, we are all Nightwish music fans and not fighters, there is already so much military shit in the world.

Vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Vous venez d'écouter la 6ème chanson du set, mais habituellement les nouveaux réacteurs commence par le Ghost Love Score , qui est à entendre absolument car comme le must du groupe, ensuite faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse et en même temps de faire la connaissance de la voix de Marko, ou alors du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le mélange magnifique des voix de Floor avec Marko ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide..... Et je pense que notre ami Gabriel Bardac devait arriver sous peu, ou être déjà passé ( Un grand MERCI à Gabriel d'avoir repris le flambeau de notre regrettée Anne ) cliquez sur son nom et allez sur communauté, vous pourrez suivre sa liste en toute confiance avec les meilleurs mixages à la bonne vitesse et avec le meilleur audio mais ce n'est pas une obligation, juste un sage conseil pour entendre une petite partie du meilleur du groupe. Floor Jansen is not a great Front woman. She is actually the greatest front woman. I would say she is the female opposite to the greatest ever Freddie Mercury.

I'll give you a starter - Floor's surname is pronounced with a soft J - so Yansen is how you would say it. You have just opened up a big rabbit hole - the Nightwish army will be along shortly. Glad you decided to react to this band,as you said,this is with their 3rd singer Floor Jansen,a 6’1” Dutch vocal beast..They’re definitely a band that are better live,their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock,folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between,hope you decide to dip your toe into some more..if you do then definitely use Gabriel’s list as it has the best quality videos performance and audio wise.👍
Yeah, my top band for sure. Floor is difficult to describe without coming across as some half-crazy influencer, getting paid by the band's promotion team and spouting hyperbolae. So yeah, just listen to more Nightwish and Floor solo stuff - it doesn't really matter what, and soon you will be spouting hyperbolae too:)

All their music is great. There just not a single song that I don’t like. Some of them at first time hearing I needed to get used to but after hearing those numbers they just grew on me.

It’s a disease that affects the Sympathetic Nervous System and causes some memory loss and pain that is on a on a scale of 1 to 50. I need it to help me at times so I do not forget something.
