Tuomos found a diamond when he bought Floor into the band. Now he has a woman who can literally sing anything, which means there is no limit to what music Nightwish can make.
Dude I literally danced around my house in celebration when I found out Floor was taking over the rest of the Imaginaerum tour... she's been one of my favorite vocalists for a long time, and I actually wanted her to replace Tarja... in 2004! Having her in Nightwish is a dream come true.
@James F Someone really needs to shoot this thing to space, it is more or less documentary about earth as a whole so if there is aliens out there then they would know that we were here indeed! Nothing we have build will last for more than 10000 years so leaving this masterpiece to drifting in space would be only way to leave something behind.
@@criticalmass3993 the Long Now Clock and the The Cheyenne Mountain Complex will surely be here. Parts of The Large Hadron Collider, The pyramids and parts of the Great Wall are also good bets ;)
I think that Tuomos Hallopainen is an absolute genius his music will go Down in history I am 62 years old my friends tell me I shouldn't like this music but I absolutely love night wish keep on rocking x
Good ,no, great music has no upper or lower age limit I'm 65 and found Nightwish a year ago , damn, think of all those years that I have missed out on !!! Making up for lost time now though! Thank to the poster and thank you RU-vid!
7 months have passed and I'm here, from Brazil, just to say that I fucking hope that what you say become true. Tuomas is a genius and deserves this. Regards
Calleb Drow Probally because post-production made the songs sound really flat in the album. That's very sad, because most of those songs had a powerful soul that was lost with a bad post production. At least we may get this power from the live versions ^^
Calleb Drow I think it's just taste... I am a big fan of the band, but this song to me is tasteless, somehow. It feels to me like they tried to mix a thousand elements that just don't make a lot of sense , as well as just to explore the high capacity of the singer, who has great technique, but it's not enough to make a song beautiful. Some of the vocal melodies , to my taste are just not emotional at all, just pure desire of write/play/sing something difficult. Something is flat, something is not touchy. I can not explain why, and believe I love most of their songs! But this one... I can not feel it somehow!! It also seems to me that they are repeating themselves a lot! They have already used those riffs
Mateus da Silva I agree with you !! I also felt the same from listening to this one: souless! It's a bunch of repetition, and sometimes a trial of making the vocals incredibly difficult, but it's just pure technique (we literally call it "masturbation" on stage on Brazil), but there is not a lot of emotions. I am a big fan of most songs of the bands though. Not this one!
Idk how many times I've heard this song but it often brings tears to my eyes. Thank you nightwish for existing and for being such a beautiful diamond in this vast ocean of life.
I enjoyed the musical references they played during "Part III" of this composition. A little history of music from the beginning of time. Seems fitting with the theme of this piece. - 14:02 tribal percussions (barely audible in this recording) - 14:10 tribal/Gregorian chants - 14:17 "Dies Irae" theme (dating back to the 13th century) -14:27 Bach "minuet in G major -14:33 Bach "toccata and fugue in D minor" - 14:52 Metallica "enter sandman" - 14:55 electro/house drum beat. A couple other parts sound familiar, but not sure where it's from lol
Anita Weber Absolutely agree!! Floor is just simply on another level. My favorite vocalist male, or female... My dream super group would be built around Floor Jansen and Russell Allen. Both can sing with angelic like voices plus, both can really belt out the power vocals like nobody’s business!! Can literally write anything with those two. One can only dream😊🥰
As a Finn I can imagine that these songs by Tuomas originate from our thousand lakes, forest, pure nature, the blue sky and four seasons. The sound of Nightwish is reflecting things that our beautiful nature would say if it could: it is strong, however, things are not always easy. But in the end there's always hope.
Dorothea Pietrek Richard Dawkins isn’t a good person. He has an absolute hatred towards Christians simply because we believe in God. He wouldn’t even know about the Big Bang Theory had a Catholic priest come up with the theory.
Powerranger6342 Maybe consider the fact that your religion literally entails that atheists deserve to be tormented for eternity for their beliefs, then maybe you’ll understand why atheists so often seem hostile and hateful. The very premise of your religion is hostile and hateful towards us. And this whole “Christians were the ones at the forefront of science” talking point is nothing more than a blatant correlation =/= causation fallacy. Christianity was the only socially acceptable religion in the western world for centuries, so of course western scientists were historically Christian. There is no reason to think there wouldn’t have been as many scientific advances without Christianity; in fact there is plenty of reason to think there would have been more, because while it is damn near impossible to demonstrate that Christianity was the cause of scientific advances, it’s indisputable that Christianity was the cause for pushback against scientific advances. The motives behind the resistances against heliocentrism, the existence of other solar systems and galaxies, and evolution have all been explicitly and near exclusively Christian.
"Everyone sing together!" Sorry Floor, but nobody else can actually sing that with you. They way she just flat overpowers Marco at the end. Her voice is unfuckingbelievable.
I agree, she is awesome, but don't underestimate the power of the crowd. Just check Bling Guardian's Imaginations... live the crowd starts here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZB2g60oQD4w.html and just when you think it's over, just continue watching :) Who cannot sing as high as Floor, can go an octave lower.
its also just how the sound is set up, main voice is hers in this song, marco is secondairy, sometimes they're equal as a duet or marco is main singer etc. but she has an awesome and strong voice indeed.
By God I just listened to this on my new speakers (Testing them). At half past 11 at night. Next door came and asked what was that you woke us up with. It sounded amazing!
I love Floor in NW for obvious reasons (she's freaking incredible), but also for the fact that it seems Marco gets to sing to his fullest potential, not being afraid to outperform her or make her less heard as he seemed to be careful with with the previous vocalists. He can just go full at it now, it feels like she's making him step up his game;)
This one particular performance is so spectacular, magnificent and I would even say monumental that it leaves me breathless every damn time I watch it. It is yet another higher level of music and I don't think I've seen a band except for Nightwish that can actually achieve something like that. Alive, aware, in awe before the grandeur of all that Nightwish is.
@@michaelwanklin3580 I have seen them twice this year and can confirm that they are awesome live. Floor just radiates the fun she is having on stage and the ease at which she performs the most complicated songs is just staggering. But the rest of the band is topnotch aswell
Tuomas once said he'd never perform the full version on stage. 21 minutes - the album version is 24. This comes awfully close. And with fireworks to boot! Always knew this would be the perfect song to feature actual fireworks and not just stage pyrotechnics.
parcog went to a concert and they played this song, didn't realize it was a special treatment. The music , the voice the images created an magical experience. I am so glad I was able to experience this live.
This show had to have been legendary and if you've never seen the entire show, they did The Islander before this song. This show and Wacken Open Air 2013 would have been fantastic shows to see.
Anyone thinking Floor's full vocal range was not utilized in their latest album really needs to listen to this song again. Specifically this particular live version that is stripped of all the studio production. Floor runs the scale of vocal styles and range in this song. Outstanding from the reigning symphonic metal goddess.
Floor is an amazing singer, however she sang far from her full potential on Endless Forms Most Beautiful. It lacked operatic vocals, agressive belting as well as growling.
GRAHAM ELY that was merely background grunts. The chorus would have been better without Marco's vocals to be honest. ReVamp's album Wild Card shows more of Floor's full potential.
This is hands down one of the most impressive live performances I have ever seen, Nigtwish is truly a band without boundaries and have become their own genera of greatness.
Singing "We were here" part is not singed loud enough to do it justice if you don't brake you vocal cord for a day. Fantastic - One of the most meaningful song i've ever heard.. Just masterpiece.. \o/
They sure know how to put on a show don't they? And they sound amazing live. It's disappointing that a lot of bands don't sound as good live as their studio albums, but these guys pull it off so well.
@Ben Wilson I find this the case for EVERY concert I go to. The sound techs never know how to balance the bass against everything else. I saw Kamelot Friday before last, and all I heard was drums...It was very pathetic sound tech work. Sadly, Par for the course I find.
Yeah it makes it hard because they don't know how to balance it, it was such a shame too because the band went to the trouble of acquiring an orchestra to play with them and some of the songs were ruined because of it.
Tarja is more technically able and classically better. However, the emotion and versatility, projected by Floor is unmatched. They are different and both special. But Floor connects people's spirit way more often.
Michael Dingding - I think I agree with you 100%. However classical singing can also be very emotional. But since Tarja usually sings classical style, I agree Floor's singing connect more with people. Everyone of them is different: Tarja a classical dark soprano, Anette a rock belter with light soprano and Floor's voice is between them, singing both classical and rock. In my opinion Tarja's clean classical voice is excellent for some songs, but not all. I'm not an expert and it's anyway a personal taste.
When Floor sings "We were here", it literally sends chills down my spine. Every single time. Even though I am aware of it and I think I am ready, it always makes that. Pure gold.
OK - I' m a Fan of Tarja - Nightwish wouldn't become so popular without Tarja, but Floor fits perfect into this Band. She is absolutely amazing. This Song is the perfect example - I' m absolutetly speechless - I can only pass one sentence: THIS. IS. REALLY. THE. GREATEST. SHOW. ON. EARTH.
Tarja, Annette, Floor. All have been great vocalists for Nightwish in their own way. As good as the old stuff was, the stuff that drew me to the band, the new material is simply epic. It just proves Nightwish are growing as a band. And getting better all the time.
First, Ghost Love Score, then the Poet and the Pendulum, and now the Greatest Show on Earth. I waited to listen to it until I had the energy for its length, and I needed time to digest the first two, but it was worth it. The song was a beautiful journey. We were here. Nightwish has swept me away.
This is my first Nightwish song and I am UTTERLY CAPTIVATED! Speechless, really. Consummate musicians! This is not easy music to play or sing. Very complex. Getting those chills up my back and neck, so I know it's good!
This is no doubt the best song i've ever heard and will hear. It's simply amazing, the lyrics, the rhythim, the vocals, the instrumentals, even the title and meaning of the song. Life: The Greatest Show On Earth
I just discovered Nightwish a few months ago. I seriously regret not finding them sooner. The song is epic, way better than Stairway to Heaven. this is coming from someone who is a life long Led Zeppelin fan and saw them in concert in 1972 in Madison Square Garden.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful and complete songs I've ever heard! The end makes my skin crawls.
Wow! I grew up listening to Huriah Heep, Rush, and so on, and I honestly thought those glory days were forever gone. Longer songs, epically delivered. I will seek out every video by these guys.
Her live vocal range, and I've seen bobby and he's good, but she really hits all those powerful notes of the spectrum and can hold them. But Bobby can do just as good, in an ad lib sort of way. I have a recording of him doing cars or drive from the tonight show in '87/88 that even he hasn't been able to reproduce. It had to be the performance that made him big. But then again, Floor IS a female, and that adds to it. lol, She's the full meal deal.
Our Nightwish never ceases to amaze, Toumas is a complete genius and deserves greater recognition as does the band and all its singers. Magical music and with such impressive passion and meaning. Long Live Queen Floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like someone has read Richard Dawkins. I’m always very happy when science inspire art and vice versa. LUCA stands for Last Universal Common Ancestor : the grand mother of all living things on earth today, alive around approximately 3.5 billion years ago.
Call me crazy or I don't know what, but after watching this for the millionth time, I just now thought of the way the "We Were Here" is written, it looks like it's carved on something like a rock, you know? Like everything's gone and this is the only sign of humanity left for whoever's going to come to see... Does it make *any* sense at all? Because in my mind it does and damn I feel like I'm always discovering something new with this band! 🖤
If u're singing or screaming "We were here" and not in tears...there is something wrong with u... God... Floor Jansen is the reference that every female singer should want to looks like... my lady, my goddes, my inner voice has been brought back to life...
I love the dynamics of this group. While I am a guitarist, I cant help but be amazed by the direction that Thomas moves the band with the keyboard. The more I listen to Nightwhish, then more I fall in love with the music. Floor's contribution defies description, she is amazing.
