Hello Ol' Army Sarge [ Reacts ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Tampere (Finland) in 2015, featuring Marco Hietala, bassist and singer, and Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, as a backup singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). This was definitely an odd one to start your Nightwish journey. The 'back up' singer in this one is in fact their front woman Floor Jansen, one of the many Dutch metal queens and regarded as the best allround female singer of our time. She can do every music style, from full opera to death growls and all in between. Just go to her RU-vid channel and unpack some of the many presents she left there.

Again, like I asked someone else, what are basing the 'and regarded as the best allround female singer of our time' on? From that song, she is nowhere close. Now if it is just superfans of a group, then I would be able to understand where it was coming from, and the source oif the 'and regarded as'.

Nightwish are big in South America and at least 108 countries around the world, but this concert is in their home country of Finland, so Marko is speaking Finnish to the crowd. Greetings from Canada. Mostly they sing in English. Marko was asking the crowd if they wanted to sing along. They are metal, but as you see they incorporate folk and symphonic elements and strong vocals.

Hey Ol Sarge. Ol Army Major here... emphasis on Ol. This was an unusual song for Nightwish but Nightwish is an unusual, symphonic metal band. This was an old school sea shanty... being army of course, we know almost nothing about sea shanties. That said, this has become my favorite band of all time and Marko, despite his terrific voice, is normally the backup singer to the woman you hear backing him up. She is our 6'1" barefoot Valkyrie goddess, Floor Jansen (pronounced Yahn-sen). The band is mostly from Finland and that was Finnish you were hearing Marko speak to a Finnish crowd in Tampere, Finland. I highly recommend that you take the time to read all of Gabriel Bardac's comment and follow the link he provides at the end. I will tell you what I just told another person. My integrity means everything to me. It is the only thing that I can wholly control. So, its like they keep throwing people at me to try to convince me to listen to a bunch of songs in a genre I despise, and they think I will come around to see their viewpoint. I can tell you, Sir, my viewpoint will not change. If there was any chance, I would go watch the videos, but in the time I have spent today talking about this to different people, I could have put 8-10 songs up on my channel. With all due respect Sir, my mind will not changed on either Metal, or Hiphop, and I do not know to make it clearer.

Thank you for reacting to my all-time favorite band. My all-time favorite singer is the front-woman Floor Jansen. She sings every genre under the sun. Marko (bass) and Troy (flute & every other instrument in the world) are the backup singers. Tuomas (keyboards, founder, composer) is the Metal Mozart that puts it all together. Follow Gabriel’s list if you go forward with Nightwish. 😄🤘

See that is the thing. I am not interested at all in metal or heavy metal, or heavy rock. I have a reaction channel and was simply fulfilling an order for a song that had been requested. The person who ordered the song, was very particular about which version, the venue, the time frame, etc, that he wandted me to use. I complied with his request, and now it seems like every fan in the bank is trying to contact me to ask for more songs. In addition, and something I could careless about, people are feeling the need to let me in on the bands history..I could not care any less about that. I enjoy country music, and rarely a regular rock song or two..I am not at all interested in this.

@@OlArmySarge A reactor does not have an easy job. I say that dealing with a fan base is like navigating through a mine field. Most fans want and accept an honest opinion of the performance and understand that no one loves every artist. Thanks for your time and effort to address these comments. I suggested BABYMETAL because their live performances are unique and provide tremendous positive energy. Perhaps give a listen on your own time. I'm a Navy vet myself. Marko is the bass guitarist of this Finnish band, speaking in Finnish, and is usually the backing singer. The woman who joins in is the lead singr, Floor Jansen, probably the best female singer that you have never heard. LOL. This is also one of the least typical examples of their music. I will let Gabriel fill you in.

Not sure what you are basing your argument of 'probably the best female singer you have ever heard'. From that performance, I can easily point out females just in the Country part of things that are better. Dont get me wrong she is a really good singer...the greatest...I personally would not say that.

@@jzundert First of all I did not provide a "stupid" answer, I said, and I still say, there are better singers than that woman in the world, since there are no metrics to determine that, it is then an opinion, and since only facts can be right or wrong, we are both right. Why don't you grow up a little and realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It is not like I refused to play the song on my channel, I did play, and I was honest in MY reaction about it. Don't be a mindless superfan, who is some kind of internet groupie for the band. given your comments, I think you would like Shudder Before The Beautiful live from Wembley. This is more of a traditional Nightwish song, with Floor (female singer) out front and Marko (bass/guitar/vocals) backing her up. It shows the full band on display, it's a harder more 'rock' song, but there are some soft moments and a really cool 'dueling banjos' moment between the keyboards and guitar.

See this is the problem that I cannot seem to get across to all of you who are mad at me for not liking the metal song, I DONT LIKE METAL, I dont even like heavy rock, that is my right to have my own opinion @IAMisLove I watched that BABYMETAL song, and nothing about it changed my mind, it was very anime'ish which I despise, the lyrics were nonsenible, and the music unenjoyed. I do not know why yall are still trying to 'change' me to like rock metal etc, I am 48 I know what I like and what I dont. I have the same freedom to not like it, as you all have to like it

The "gothic" clothing includes unicorn high- heels, a double helix symbol in the national colours if Finnland. But the most important is: Did you like this song and did you hear the quality of the band?

I did hear their quality, although the first half or so was just that guy and his guitar. Not being a metal head at all, and normally avoiding hearing them, I can say that the band does have great skill

I can understand that you all want me to go watch videos of a genre that I do not now, nor have I ever liked..sure maybe someone has a good voice, that does not mean that the entire rest of the things going on I like. Now, i would be being less than honest if I did not tell you, as far as metal, that my opinion may change. It will not change. Same with HipHop, totally different reasons, but two genre's that I just do not enjoy. I do not know how to get this across. I do not know why ya'll feel like you are going to change my mind. It wont happen, I can, absolutely can say it will not.

Subscribed. The River Styx is the answer. NIGHTWISH is a band from Europe and have a large fan base. This is not a usual performance; I'm surprised it was recommended. You are right! This whole process takes a lot of cencentration, I heard a voice sounding to me like Spanish, hence the comment, I do not go read their comment section prior to creating the content, because I was it to truly be a first reaction. Obviously, I was wrong on that point, I have been wrong before, but when there are so many things from my side all going at the same time, once in awhile there will be a mistake. There was no was to know it was Finnish unless I read the comments, and that was addressed above.
