people who get mad at the business for leaving because of theft are some of the most unaware people out there.

Who would have thought decriminalizing petty crimes would have had negative consequences? They totally didn't see this coming!

I was shopping there last year, the "security " were only there to maintain the queue outside the store. People who were walking out without paying were not even talked to by the security. It was bizarre and here we were standing in line for 10 minutes just to pay

Business owners: CLOSE the stores in cities/states where shoplifters are not prosecuted and move them to places who will protect and appreciate your investment in their cities.

These neighborhoods will become commercial deserts, and there will be accusations that the companies are discriminating against one group or another, but no business can operate successfully if this level of theft is being permitted. From many reports I've seen, it seems that enforcing the laws has become difficult or impossible. This must change.

If more of these retail stores close, these thieves will start to target homeowners, so prepare yourselves.

Sadly, a MLK Blvd. in a city is usually to be avoided. Equally sad is that businesses in the community are plagued by theft and crime but also become targeted by the same community with accusations of profiting off the community. Its a grind and a no-win for most businesses. There's good reason communities have few shopping options.

A loss-prevention employee working for Home Depot in California was shot and killed when he stopped a woman from stealing a DeWalt set of tools. He was a fine young man, an Eagle Scout, who was engaged to be married this summer. We have allowed a cancerous culture to grow in our country, we have even celebrated it. We need to take a hard look in the mirror and ask ourselves about our own values, how we behave, who we vote for, the policies we support. This Nike store closure is the best thing that Nike could have done to protect their employees and people who buy their products. But that donation of 1 million dollars they made to the community since their opening will not ever happen again. Everyone loses.

My Dad used to say if the road was named after MLK it wasn't in a very good neighborhood and I thought he was just being racist but now I know he was right.

It's definitely not worth doing business in a brick & mortar location in Portland or any city in the U.S. for that matter. Either sell exclusively on-line or close forever--putting more people out of jobs and exacerbating the homeless problem.

reluctantly built back in the 80's, but did it to help the black community. Once it was built, it encouraged other to build stores and other businesses for the black community. It got so big they built a bigger Nike store- they named the street it is on after Martin Luther King Jr....and donated millions of dollars back to the black community. Now the pay back is theft by the community how sad and ironic.

Being pushed out of their homes by skyrocket rent increases. A drug epidemic that's killing Americans at an all-time high. Perfect recipe for homelessness, drug addiction, crime , and the death of the American dream. American families cannot survive when 80 to 90% of their income goes to housing. Most Americans raising children today are not doing better than their parents were 20 to 30 years ago. Not when the minimum wage in most states is stuck at 12 to $13 an hour. Get your rent is over $2,000 for a two bedroom apartment and that's a steal. It's absolutely deplorable.

I got fired from a retail store in Seattle for grabbing a shoplifter's tshirt. Now I cheer them on and open the door for them at my new job. These retail stores can go suck it. Hope they have to close down.

A great way to punish thieves is to require them to work to repay what they've stolen or go to jail and get a criminal record. Either way, I assume the locals love the current state of affairs because they won't vote to change it.
