The Nike Pegasus 40 remains the best daily trainer (IMO) and that is a good thing. I won't be doing a 50mile update on this shoe, as I've already talked alot about the peg 39/40... but i will be coming back with a long term review in a few months and after another pair or two.
Thanks for the detailed first impressions video. Personally I can’t really run in a Pegasus after getting used to the Invincible (2 or 3, I like them both), but I have to admit the streamlined silhouette of the Pegasus looks much better than the Invincible
Love my 39s, but miss the versatility of the 36. I did everything in the 36, from 26 s 200s to 79 min HM tempo runs. The 39 is only used for easy runs.
I find the 39/40 has similar versatility, for me. If you really miss the 36, check on the Nike Zoom Rival Fly 3. It’s cushlon, single toe to heel airbag, low stack… it’s like the 36 parallel evolved there.
So I went into a shop and squeezed that seemingly the same midsole a couple times. Is it just in my head or, doesn’t it feel a bit squishier than before? Can’t wait for the Kipchoge pack to come out… from the pair he work after Boston, it seems the production pair’s midsole will not have that (imo) not so pleasing chequers design too
I honestly don't think there is any difference in the react formula between the 39 & 40. To my feet they feel the exact same. Especially so that the black Peg 40s you saw in the video now have similar miles on them to the Peg 39s I featured as well. I agree on that Red/white checker pack. I love the Peg 40 and VF3 and will look for both when they release!
I really value the Flywire in the Peg line for the aesthetics and lightweight design. When the 37 came out in 2020 with the arch lock bands, it felt cheap and Nike never really gave a reason why they use it over flywire. Would also love your opinion on Nike shifting the airbags around over the years: heel, forefoot + heel, full length, forefoot, and now back to forefoot + heel. Each year they say it’s better than the last, but they are repeating themselves now. Thanks for the great review!
I don’t have a strong opinion about Nike’s lace lock systems, they all work the same for me. I don’t know why Nike seems to randomly go from Flywire and not… As for the airbag. I think the “most peg feeling” airbag is the full toe to heel bag. I also think they is the one that benefits most people. The forefoot only bag was too extreme. The separate forefoot and heel bags work but then aren’t as nice as the single big bag. I do expect Nike to move back to the single big airbag in the next few versions.
