The right move. Now Nike needs to sell more of these in US. Majority of the pitches are AG/turf yet they push FGs for every boot variation. I tore my meniscus specifically from wearing FG on AG. I've been wearing AG ever since and have been holding onto my hypervenom 2s with this plate. Only way I've been able to get AGs have been through eBay and UK sites willing to ship to the US though which is not also available. FGs are safe for pro pitches and/or quality grass pitches even if slightly wet. AGs are even safer on harder ground/grass and reduce the impact on your body. Companies really need to promote that this is actually SAFER for athletes and they imo would make more money because consumers would have to use 3 boots (AG, FG, SG) and if they couldn't afford it then AGs are the default based on geographic location. I imagine it's wishful thinking though.
well said mate.Ppl should take note.Everything you said is true.FG boots really do risk injury on turf/Artificial grass with aggressive stud patterns.Need to see more quality AG boots with conical pattern sole plate which are much fewer number.
Glad They've gone back to the previous AG studs. Had them on my HyperVenoms. Felt better to me, however it depends on what 3G/4G pitches you play on. Not all of them are to the same standard so grip may vary.
As someone who plays almost exclusively on AG. I prefer the "AG-R" over the "AG-Pro". A lot of the AG pitches i play on are shallow meaning if you wear FG boots there is a lot of stud pressure. I have had the AG-Pro sole plate before and it was ok but the past gen AG sole plate is >>>>. Nike overall is a joke though when it comes to the AG boots. There are a TON of AG pitches in the States and Nike doesn't even release the AG boots on the Nike US Website.
Wore mine for the 1st time this evening! I have a wide foot and these are the 1st mecurial that I could get on. Super comfortable and mould to your feet! Great ball control, precision striking area and very lightweight. New fav for me. ❤
I'm a bit disappointed with this move back to the AG-Pro stud pattern. I have played on this outsole with for years with the Superfly 5, 6 and Phantom GT and now primarily play with the AG focused outsole on the Superfly 7 and like it better. The main difference I find is the reduced pressure points on my foot with the 17 studs vs the 13 studs, the softer material on the studs may play a part as well. I only play on AG surfaces currently and dont feel much of a grip difference between the two patterns. I just wish Nike implements the 17 stud AG pattern on one of the other boots in their lineup so players still get a choice for their AG outsole like with the previous generation Mercurial and Phantom lineup. But overall, I'll still happily pick one of these two AG stud patterns over the very many "FG/AG" options out there. They work wonders for my knees and have helped me avoid serious knee injuries compared to several of my teammates who have not been so lucky.
The tiempo would be a good candidate for the 17 stud AG outsole since its FG outsole is the least aggressive of the bunch and already kind of like the hybrid on these vapors
I’ve really liked the AG-Pro on the Phantom GT. If you look very closely the studs (15 if I recall correctly) are ever so slightly shorter than any other AG-Pro tooling.
By the way, a cleat that suits you is most likely not going to suit another player. It depends mostly on the type and size of your foot, superfly hurt my feet and I think it's because I have a little bit wide foot, you most likely have rather a more narrow feet.
@@GoodWillRacing also the AG-Pro tooling of the Phantom GT didn’t have any bladed studs, all of them were conical so that made for a safer tooling than that of the AG-Pro of mercurials.
I think Nike thought they could revert back to the 13 stud config, cuz they thought the new air zoom unit would make up for the 4 stud difference (going back to and pushing the hybrid fg/ag setup vs niche ag tooling = mass appeal + more sales) Edit: I feel you though!
I'm surprised Jay didn't mention that the Vapor 14 AG stud pattern which this replaces was itself almost identical to the AG stud patterns that immediately preceded the AG-Pro ones. So Nike seem to have been flip flopping between these two. I wonder if it's driven by sales data, performance or player safety.
I’m glad I got a pair of AG vapor 14 as someone that plays on both FG & AG pitches and can afford to buy boots for both surfaces then the Nike’s AG tooling of Vapor 9,10,&14 & Superfly 8 > AG-Pro tooling of mercurials. But if you play on both FG & AG or play mostly on AG pitches and can only afford one pair of boots then the AG-Pro tooling is a good compromise. But if those AG pitches are really old and worn down then AG will be preferable than AG-Pro when it comes to safety.

@@user-ko4mg3uf4y Dunno, though I read that Nike is pretty forgiving on that and have supplied vouchers to many people who didn't order directly from Nike. I think the shoe just has to be within 2 years of production date to be elligable
I can comfortably say that most human beings today play on turf/AG, but on the contrary most Football stores sell FG studs or indoor. I think sport companies should consider making more high quality AG cleats and produce them equal or more than FG cleats. I love natural ground, but unfortunately they are going to extinct.
what are people's thoughts on artificial turf fields nearly melting cleats and turning my feet into baked loaves from being so hot?...even on days that are in the 70-80's direct sun turns the fields..especially fields with an ungodly amount of rubber granules...into lava parks...

@@carlos1662 I don’t wear shorts on fg cuz I just feel like there will be less traction but I think they are both safe on fg but if u wear ag on fg you may slip around a bit more but it depends on which ag outsole u use
@@wydsafi because it works lol. Just because you have dirt in the studs doesn’t mean they won’t penetrate the ground. If the pitch is sloppy then ya FG (or even SG maybe) will be the way to go but most of Nikes AG-Pro tooling (except the Phantom GT because those studs are shorter) will work on most grass pitches unless they are more of a softer ground. No clue what part of the world they play in but in SoCal grass fields are hard lol

I'd love to get an actual AG pair, but I don't want to spend extra money on the AG pair, however I'm considering it as I've had a couple close calls with my FG pair where I almost twisted my ankle because of the grip even in a pair of Tiempos I almost f**ed up my ankle to the point where I had to stop playing for a while until the soreness went away Should definitely consider an AG pair...
Or get an FG pair that doesn’t have aggressive studs. Nike Premier 3’s have conical studs and 2 more in the front than the “speed boot” FG’s. Only around $100 too

previous version is not better than these. this is the best ag pattern. the material in the previous model not expansive enough for the foot to feel. free and comfortable. in my opinion
Is it able to be used in real grasses because I bought thinking that it was better because it was more expensive, but I discovered that they are indicated to be used in artificial grasses?
Have been wearing Vapor 13 and loved it a lot! Nothing felt better then them! I use them on FG and SG every day and feeling great 👍 Thanks why I bought 14 straight away as I was sure in them, but they were too wide for my feet🤐!!! This was a disappointment for me as nothing ever felt better to me than Mercurial! But 15 model is an upgraded 13 with that slim foot shape which was very comfortable from day 1 ! But yeah, I agree with the safety loss on AG Sole… but so far I’ve been playing on at pitch for about a month and feeling great, sooo….🤷♂️ Your choice! “Mercurial FG” Do not use Nike FG 15 on fake or artificial grass!!!!! I don’t understand Nike on this one!!!! If you look at the studs, it’s already scary on your mind😳🥵 and that’s true! The studs should be used only on RealGrass!!! I don’t understand what we’re Nike thinking about!🤨🧐 But, in general: I recommend these! 👍

I play on natural grass but am coming back from a knee injury in which my boot stuck in the ground resulting in a full rupture to my acl, torn mcl and damaged cartridge. Would AG boots be a good option for my return to play?
If you play on turf, meaning the cheap green carpet kind not AG kind, then you should get a pair of TF boots. As for a boot that you can use on FG and AG then either academy level boot is fine since they’re both MG boots but the phantom GT2 academy might be a little safer since the back heel studs are conical whereas the legend 9 academy is FG/MG and has all bladed studs in the heel.
I think FG/Ag boot story doesnt make any sense at younger players.My kid play with FG for years on Ag without problem.He is 14 year old. Maybe when you are bigger and have more weight it could be more problem.
the previous mercurial ag outsole broke too quickly even when a person plays only on ag pitches, studs on the heel part fell off and it's just not really realiable stud pattern bcs of the soft plastic
I used the copa sense+ FG variation and twisted my ankle while sprinting which resulted in a fracture in my ankle…I never really thought there was a huge difference between ag and fg but I guess I’m never wearing FG on ag ever again🤬
