I didn't try zoom fly's 5 yet but my recommendation for 4's is to go half size down. It makes a massive difference in how the plate fits your foot and responds. Also the forefoot part of the upper is so spacious that you won't feel any discomfort in going smaller size. In fact it might improve the lockdown.
Haha. I felt the suction too. Made me feel self-conscious when walking on smooth tile. I ended up returning mine and getting the NB SC Trainer instead. No regrets.
Loving mine. Done about 120k now . Absolutely great for long sessions , no hotspots and easy to keep the pace . Don’t notice the weight at all. Give it a chance and you will see …
@@carsonwong4144 I’m loving mine on harder effort long runs, for me that’s in the 8:30-40/mi or 5:15-20/km range for 60-90min. It locks me into that pace really well. Next run I do in them I’ll be doing negative splits each km for 10-12km, starting at 5:40ish and ending at 4:30ish, and I’ll see how it does at that faster pace that’s equal to around 7:30/mi. I got them a month or so ago for $67 from a Nike outlet, can’t complain at all.

When the best part of a shoe is the colorway/design... that's not great haha. I always appreciate your honesty in your reviews when shoes don't work out! That suction cup critique is funny, definitely an odd quirk. I still have yet to find a Nike shoe that agrees with me. I'll stick to ASICS and New Balance for now.
I’ve put 560 km on the zoom fly 5 still going strong. I use it as a daily beater for my 10-15 k easy/med pace runs I’m a bigger guy I’ve struggled to find a show that feels good after 200+ km this shoe has done that very minimal wear and honestly the only thing I regret is that I didn’t buy two when I got them on sale
It's actually a pretty good shoe. You're griping about weight, but let's get some perspective. You're dealing with grams here. Also, as you mention, the geometry is excellent, fit is excellent, it's plated, $160. It's a faster shoe because of geometry. It does test your running form. If you're a slacker with trash form, then this will give you grief or...it might actually help you straighten out some issues. It's an 8.5 out of 10..
These shoes are great! I initially skipped them because of reviews like this one but when I've put them on at the local store I immediately felt how comfortable they are. I went for some runs and they are really great, they keep up the pace and they protect the foot. Previously used models for my daily trainings: Pegasus 37 (which I loved), Rebel V2 (the upper ripped off on two different pairs), Velocity Nitro 2 (bricks, fel way heavier than Fly 5) and Turbo 2 (great shoe but does not protect the feet).
agreed. I tried dozens of shoes in over 10 stores and this were by far the best for me! Much better than the Infinity and Invincible that are too marshmallowy
Zoom fly 5 very mistaken, i think the weight is supposed to be heavy in order to make legs stronger so therefore when you out a light race day shoe on (vaporfly) you can then feel faster and running becomes
so, basically, lets make a bad shoe, to be a good shoe 😂. anyways that makes sense, its a linear downgrade of the vapors. so you get used to a downgraded vapor, and in a race, you get all that good stuff of the real vapor.
The Zoom Structure models have a full SR02 foam midsole in the recent models as well and they feel great. Not that typical stability shoe feeling. They feel quite soft after a few runs. I actually think that the Zoom Structure 23/24 is an even better daily trainer than the Pegasus 37/38/39 models. You should give it a try. ;)
TBH I don't know why anyone would think that the Peg line are great trainers unless they haven't tried anything else. The Peg line is average at best and has been for quite a while.
I doubt it. Nike’s new initiative is to promote recycled materials. I’d like it if they introduce a non-nature version of Pegasus Turbo with pure, virgin zoomx foam.
i also get the little pops while i run in this on smooth pavement. i have about 50 miles in these. i like them. they are my training companion to the alpha fly.
I almost got these shoes a few weeks ago. It was either these or my Endorphin Speed 3’s. While I was testing this shoe it did feel clunky but fast, I just wish I would of ran a little more in the shoe. However the Endorphins were just easier to run in it felt like.
Excellent review that confirmed my "feeling" when I tried those shoes yesterday for the first time. From my point of view, as a "walker" who may happen to suddenly run so as not to miss the bus, I wonder if they can be like the Skechers GO Run Max Road 5, which is a brick when you run to not to lose the bus. The best for that kind of run is (I tested it): the New Balance Fresh Foam More 3 and the Zoom Fly 4. What is your view?
I also wanted the new Pegasus Turbo Next nature to ge a winner, because I loved the old Turbo and Turbo2. Most say it's another disappointment, heavy,plodding, stiff shoe. I am anxious to hear Believe in the Run review it. They have already bashed it in Europe.
Totally agree that runners should NOT buy this shoe. I have it and right away it felt totally dead, stiff and heavy compared to my 5 year old Nike Zoom Flyknits which I thought I was upgrading from. Nope! Its ok for short training runs, but just is a huge letdown. Luckily I got it on sale for just over $100, but still....WTF Nike???
I rather run in the tempo next% for training. I can feel more bounce/pop in the forefoot because the nylon plate vs alphaflys, which I love for races. Zoom fly seems pointless even for a trainer version of the Vaporfly.
I don't understand, they're not heavier than MachX and yet that doesn't seem to pose a problem to influencers, is there anything else underneath there????!!!!!! I like this shoes.
None of my nikes are worth a darn on wet concrete and asphalt. I thought I just happened to get bad models. I bought a version of a nike shoe with a special formulated rubber that is supposed to be good for wet surfaces and it's just as slippy as the rest. I don't get it.
Have no interest or urgency to try the Zoom Fly 5. I knew they would ruin the 4 since only a few of us are fans for marathon training (and possibly racing), so I bought another ZF4. My recent life with Nike: I'm forced to once again look elsewhere to replace beloved shoes that work for me. Lunarglide, Structure (
TTS or maybe runs a smidge big. Usually Nike 13’s are too tight for me, and I have to get 14’s. But these in 13 have plenty of room for me, not tight up front at all.
I loved the ZF Flyknit even if it was a bit stiff. Thank you Asics for great shoes as the Novablast 2 and Noosa 14 and for reducing the weight instead of going up as Nike has been doing and has made me move away from them

Nike keeps plastering “ZOOM X” all over their shoes even though they are full of SR02. Zoomfly 5 heavy and clunky….Pegasus turbo nature full of SR02 much heavier. Nike what are you doing? SR02 is cheaper so Nike shareholders will be pleased....
One of those tip of the iceberg and hastily done reviews. You don't know really what you're reviewing. Seems like both of you are just sort of guessing just to provide comments. To be fair though, 'will wait for your 100mile review for more substantial inputs.
