Today we learnt of his passing. 70 is not so old but he had an "extra" 43 years after that crash. Such a brave man and how he came back six weeks later I'll never know... Another part of my childhood has gone...

Dang man, that guy who played him in the movie spoke EXACTLY like him. Hearing the real man speak though... dudes the real deal. This guy is so incredible. The stuff he’s been through is insane. I don’t understand how his story isn’t more recognized globally. What a interesting guy.

Look up, I think his name is Daniel Bruhl, and he's German; he spent time with Niki, and learnt how to imitate his accent... I mean, Chris Hemsworth was pretty good as James Hunt, but Daniel did an outstanding job as Niki, he looks and sounds so much like Niki...
@stevebell4853
@stevebell4853 4 года назад
@@frankgile1996 Yes Bruhl did an outstanding job. Should have won a ton of awards for that performance. Nailed it. One of the most underrated performances that year. They were both awesome. And yes, Niki was most certainly one of the realest of all deals. And he was consistently like that his whole life. One of those people who the more details you learn about, the more you respect. I've got one of his books Meine Story. Highly recommended. You'll like him a bunch more after reading that cos you'll realise this is what he was like all the time.
@jujuoliver6959
@jujuoliver6959 4 года назад
His story is known globally, but it just a generational thing, it depends what age you are plus not everyone was into racing. Many people would never have heard of James Hunt either because he died so young in his middle 40s, so generations after that only tend to know of more recent names but in my time and era James Hunt was all over the newspaper’s and press as the glamour boy of racing. Nikki Lauda was always known as the more serious face of racing, then of course his accident and pure grit after his accident made headline news. It’s been lovely over the last few years seeing him talk more freely following the film and listening to these videos. He always came across as very cool and almost glacial in his time racing, complete antithesis of James Hunt, so this is lovely to watch.

I went to a Formula 2000 race @ Maggione (PG) in Italy. Circa 1990. There the driver who stopped in the F1 race and pulled Niki Lauda out of his burning car was racing that day and crashed into a guard rail. Barely escaped serious injury. I think the racing Gods helped him, perhaps in exchanges for his courage in helping Lauda.

Anyone who has had the feeling will undoubtedly know what he is speaking of. RIP Niki

@Darth Matt Secondary concerns when head trauma is severe enough. Primary concern in such conditions is/was to stay awake as to prevent the patient from slipping into a coma. A coma that one is not guaranteed to wake from. Yes, docs want to observe brain function after concussion obvi... Survival trumps observation.

According to Alistair Caldwell it wasn't just the fire from the burning Ferrari that caused the damage to Lauda's lungs - the main culprit was the in-car-fire-extinguisher (which apparently was set off my Arturo Mezzario when trying to haul Lauda from the car) - apparently because after it goes off it sets like wet cement - and that's what got into Niki's lungs and almost killed him. Not sure if this is fact - but it sure sounds very feasible. Anyone knows different or agrees - pls let me know. Thankfully Niki Lauda survived his horrendous crash. Fascinates me hearing him talk - not just about the crash but everything. He's such a smart guy who tells it how it is. Love him for that.
