I just discovered this girl just now. Wow what a talent!!!Why some people say something negatvie about her. No artists sing jazz nowadays but electro pop trash. This girl can save the jazz music.
Never heared of her until this moment and now I'm sitting here shaking my head about this unbelievable naturally talent. She's one of a kind. How she sings together with the guitar is phenomenal. Just to pick one detail off. Nice voice and great abilities. Wow! She could have a great future. BTW: The band is clearly excellent, too.
She has a great present due to her great past. She has been singing professionally for years now. Yes, she started at a very young age. Listen to her album, Ella, of Thee I Sing'. I believe that was her first album.
Wow I am discovering her. She sings so beautifully, every pitch perfect. She is going to bear her name next to the great jazz singers of all time. Of course we cannot compare her to Ella or to any other singer because they all different artistic background. She is Nikki Yanofsky and I love it.
I understand what you say benny but I think too that she's not awesome or something like that.. she has to train so much to reach her solo, Ella fitzgerald is doing that spontanously, she really feels it.
You have violated God's Law, which He wrote in your heart; your own conscience condemns you (who has not violated their conscience?). Therefore, you deserve "the fine" - the punishment of hell. But God does not want to give you justice. God is good, kind, and merciful. He wants to give you mercy! That's why Jesus Christ (God in the flesh) died on the cross. You violated the Law, but Christ paid your fine. He suffered in your place, as your Substitute, and rose again after three days. Repent and place all your faith in the Person and work of Jesus Christ, and you will be saved from the wrath of God.
I love this girl. The first time I saw her was on youtube singing Santa Claus is coming to town. I never knew a simple Christmas song could sound so beautiful. That was several years ago. I bought her album 'Ella of Thee I Sing'. I cherish this album. Nikki is one of the most mesmerizing singers to hear and watch today. Very rarely do I find a voice that I can listen to endlessly and Nikki's is one of those voices. She can sing anything. She is amazing. Whether you love jazz or not, listen and watch this young lady perform. Someday, someone is going to record an album called 'Nikki of Thee I Sing'.
I am overwhelmed ! I never heard of Nikki Yanofsky till 5 minutes before - but it has to change immediately! YOU REALLY GOT RHYTHM ! Nikki, you are amazing, astounding, astonishing, awesome, breathtaking, sensational, remarkable, spectacular, stupendous, staggering, stunning, phenomenal, prodigious, miraculous, extraordinary, incredible, unbelievable, wondrous, excellent, splendid, wonderful, magnificent, superb, glorious, sublime, lovely, delightful, too good to be true, super, great, amazing, fantastic, terrific, tremendous, sensational, heavenly, divine, gorgeous, grand, fabulous, fab, marvy, awesome, to die for, magic, ace, killer, wicked, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, far out, out of this world, smashing, brilliant, boss, swell, dreamy...
As a musician should be. I wish there were more actual bands that you could hear regularly on the radio instead of computer sounds and autotuned voices.

I agree with Rey. In regard to the negative comments it's a shame that there seems to be a 'club' of small minded jazz enthusiasts who fail to recognize great young talent, and would rather put them down in comparison to others with a life's worth of experience. Perhaps it's some kind of covert jealousy. There's a sincerity, energy and youthfulness in the way she sings. Thank God she doesn't sound like Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone - that's no way to develop your own style. Don't forget too that there were performances by those latter two musicians that weren't always that great either !
the thing I love most about her is how she's young but she still loves to sing Jazz... she could do a lot of things with her voice but she chooses to sing classics :)
To all those people tryng to compare her to Ella; get a life. Nikki was 16 in this recording. I love Ella, she set the bar so high that any comparison is unfair. Let's wait another 10 years and listen to her scat when she has matured. If there was potential for this young woman, do you think Quincy Jones would be wasting his time?
A beautiful young person has opted to sing big band jazz - and learn to scat, too! What could be better? And how many times have you ever heard the intro (actually called the “verse”) to this tune? Great idea to use it, Nikki! You go, girl! Don’t compare, folks, just enjoy! (But no, she's not better than Ella; there's only one Ella who is unique and inimitable.)
I will bet a few things: 1. The bari player has reeds in his case that are older than Ms. Yanofsky, 2) Her band has fun on every gig, 3. Ms. Yanofsky PRACTICES a great deal, and 4. Bruce Lundval was correct - she will go far. The scat thing with the guitarist was amazing. For those of you who criticize her for performing a pre-worked out line like that, please post on here something better. Until then, please be quiet. This was great. I am hooked.
this girl is good. I stumbled on this and am quite impressed. She has good tone, great intonation, can get some grit in her voice when she wants it, controls her vibrato, and is a wonderful scatter. Those that are comparing her to others and saying she's not good at scat (yes, Louisanna .P, I'm talking to you) I want to see your contribution to this genre. Can you scat? Can you even sing? You probably couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Yes, I can sing and can play an instrument very well, thank you, and have been doing so for 50 years so, yes, I am qualified to comment here. (I'm not as good as these cats but I can hold my own). I agree with James Matheson, Jr below, if you can do better, prove it. Otherwise, go away and STFU.
Days can be sunny With never a sigh, Don't need what money Can buy. Birds in the tree sing Their dayful of song. Why shouldn't we sing Along? I'm chipper al the day, Happy with my lot. How did I get that way? Look at what I've got. I got rhythm, I got music, I got my man Who could ask for anything more? I got daisies In green pastures, I got my man Who could ask for anything more? I got daisies In green pastures, I got my man Who could ask for anything more? Old man trouble, I don't mind him You won't find him 'Round my door I got starlight, I got sweet dreams, I got my man Who could ask for anything more
In response to Josy, this band would not play for her if she were not considered good enough for them. She is going to get much better with exposure to this kind of band. Quincy Jones is one of her mentors. I've hear her sing a duet with Stevie Wonder and hold her own. I am sure this band backs up a lot of great singers; however, I like that I've had the opportunity to hear what I believe with become a fine jazz singer, but that I can to listen to her just as she is beginning her career. You have to start somewhere. I believe she is aware of her limitations. Once when she sang At Last, she actually explained that she does not have a lot of experience so that she signs about her puppy when doing that song now. Through the vehicle of You Tube we could be seeing future greater artists starting out and I personally like that experience. I do not compare her to others; I simply stay in the moment and try to enjoy every bit of that moment.
I think Nikki should team up and collaborate with one of the finest jazz composers out there for a big TV special. She and Emily Bear would blow the roof off the place. Pretty sure they share the same producer, Q.
ELLA SIN DUDA QUE CANTABA EXCELENTE Y ME ENCANTA,Y ES DEL SIGLO PASADO.ENTONCES COMPARAR A NIKKY CON ELLA ES ABSURDO..NIKKY ES UNA ADORABLE JOVENCITA,Y SIN DUDA QUE SERA LA MEJOR DE LA MEJOR DE LAS CANYANTES DEL SIGLO XX1..

Thanks for posting this Janet.Wow! She's fantastic! How old? Jody Hart says 16 when this was recorded? Really? Again...wow! She will indeed go far. Bravo Nikki! (no pun intended). I hope to see you live someday soon, and singing great jazz like this.
I guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any help you can give me
I like listening to her more "mainstream" songs like "waiting on the sun" but this performance shows real raw talent. She's got so much potential and her voice and skills are just getting better. So it's really harsh to compare her with professionals like Ella Fitzgerald when Nikki's just started off on her career. And seriously, who cares how well she sings or not if she's enjoying the song that much and make others enjoy it with her :)
