It's very interesting, when she introduces herself she has a very bright tone to her voice, but once she starts singing she has a lot darker tone that's needed for jazz. This gets two thumps up from me.
***** Probably because she was a teen-aged jazz singer from Canada. Even with help from Quincy Jones and Phil Ramone, most jazz singers don't get much press (even if they get their first recording at the age of 13 - she was 16 when this was made). Now 21, Nikki is trying to break through with more pop material.
Lullaby of Birdland that's what I Always hear when you sigh Never in my wordland Could there be ways to reveal In a phrase how I feel Have you ever heard two turtle doves Bill and coo when they love That's the kind of magic Music we make with our lips when we kiss. And there's a weepy old willow He really knows how to cry That's how I'd cry in my pillow If you should tell me farewell and goodbye Lullaby of Birdland whisper low Kiss me sweet and we'll go Flyin' high in Birdland High in the sky up above All because we're in love
Every time I want to listen lullaby of birdland, I come to this specific video... This version has something that I don't know what it is, is the best one ever!
It's not often that the first three seconds of a video convince me that it's worth watching till the end. Thank you for uploading. Both you and your band are fantastic.

Wow!!! Simply beautiful. Your voice, the vibrato, the arrangement, the good musicians in the background, the outstanding piano solo. Excellent rendition of this great piece by Duke Ellington. Thanks for sharing it.
OOOOH I love her voice!!! She's amazing :D I love this style of music, and also her version of "Don't know why", because is one of my favourite songs!!!
I checked out a cd from my local library entitiled "We All Love Ella." I found Nikki Yanofsky on the last track, number 15 - Airmail Special. She absolutely blew me away, and yet I'd never heard of her and came to RU-vid to find her. Wow, is she talented. Next step, I've got to find out where I can hear her in person. You go, Nikki!
WOW ! Absolutely gorgeous voice! Great versatility ; Powerful subtle, soft and fabulous control. Not everybody knows how technicaly this type of song is to perform! I remember you from your ‘Necessary evil’ hit! You are just a fabulous singer, songwriter and performer!
I'm floored...that marvelous voice coming out of that diminutive young lady, ye gods, she's the biggest one in the room! The whole ensemble is so skilled, what a bunch of talent in one place. Just sublime.
Really good version of Lullaby Of Birdland! I like it! I feel some kind of courage in this voice and I definitely like part (after the pianist solo) when she starts doing those little rocky nuances by her voice. Good for my ears!
Nikki seems to be comfortable in her own person; she is confident because that is who she is; what you see, is what you get. I would think that she is kind, considerate, and extremely compassionate toward the feelings of others. She is a joy to watch and listen to. Roger Plafkin-Plafkin Farms, Ada, Michigan
