That Z 105mm f2.8 MC VR is an awesome lens and it is very sharp, had one with my Z6 II and it performed quite well. I did have issues when using it for video and tracking ducks in a pond, maybe it was the Z6 II. Have you tried it tracking thins on the Z8?
@waynerm002 I'm still on the front end of using this lens, so don't know all its qualities. It'll be mainly for video. 105 has VR, but did Nikon design that in for photographers to use freehand macro shooting? Time will tell how it does.... Thanks for the comment!
I have the 105mm lens but I don't use it often. I just recently learned something new about macro and about this lens. This lens has focus breathing which is not too common with most Nikon z lenses. I've used the focus stacking feature on my z6 II with this lens. I always have to crop in on the photo after focus stacking them in photoshop. I know there's better software than photoshop for this. I was told I need a focusing rail, focus on one spot and then adjust the camera forward using the rail to get my stacks. But it seems like I would get similar results if I'm slowly moving the camera towards the subject after each shot.
@JohnRoth-f9e I've been testing the 105 a bit as a non-macro. However if I was buying a lens more for portraits, it'd be the 85 1.8 at less money. Thanks for the comment!
I have thought about the 105mc but I currently have a 105vr 2.8 in the bag. I don’t use it a lot mostly for wildflowers in the spring. Not sure I would upgrade to the 105mc.
@rdphoto2 forgot to mention in the video this one is a VR designation also... it may have edged out the trusty 24-120 in these tests at least. thanks for the comment!
