Niko is ruthless and grounded. Trevor feels more like a cartoonish character on comparison.

Trevor would kill someone just because. Niko seems to need a reason and doesnt like random killing.

Niko Bellic is a reasonable guy. In fact, everywhere he goes people say 'Niko Bellic, you are a reasonable fucking guy'.

I'd say Niko is more like Michael, doesnt necessarily feel the need to kill, kills when he has to, other than that, would prefer a quiet life

This is because of how the games are structured. Niko is the sole protagonist of a full game, Trevor is playable for two thirds of his game and still isn't in all missions nor forced. Niko has more missions, it's natural that he has more kills.

Niko simply did what he was told to, so that his relatives and friends wouldn't get hurt. Trevor was basically a way Rockstar found to represent the average GTA player.

Trevor is definitely worse. He's a loose cannon who will kill for no reason, Michael even implies as much. Niko on the other hand does have principles. I could 100% see Trevor going to a park and shooting everyone one just for kicks, where as Niko would never do such a thing.

Niko was a soldier, sent to war, and was betrayed. You’d have to piss him off really bad to get him to kill someone (which is part of the reason Niko is in Liberty City to begin with, he’s hunting down the man who betrayed him and his friends during the war).

When the main theme is such a banger you can listen to it for 25 minutes and not get sick of it

Toni Cipriani was worse. He blew up an entire city block for $5000 and he did it like it was nothing. You could also argue Trevor was worse due to his morality and the people he was willing to kill. Niko mostly killed people who sort of deserved it but Trevor would kill someone just for looking at him wrong or because he was in a bad mood.

Niko is a protagonist that, although has committed countless crimes and murders, we can still empathise with. It seems that all he truly wants is to make the best out of a shitty situation so that him and his cousin can live happily. His actions, although criminal, serve a purpose for him and his loved ones, and throughout the story he seems to consider his decisions in line with some semblance of a code of ethics/moral compass. In addition to this, while he is ruthless (as someone in his position/lifestyle should be), he seems to have a sense of humanity about himself in the way that he processes past trauma and how he makes sense of the chaos LC presents him with. He has also demonstrated his willingness to fight through hell in order to protect and save those he loves. In my opinion, he is a good person at heart, who unfortunately got too deeply involved in a dark lifestyle that doesn't have a happy ending for most people. The sad truth is that there are many people like this out there!

Niko's backstory has to be one of the darkest backstories i've heard. My god, this dude has done terrible shit, and I can't even blame him.

Fun fact probably unknown to alot, the mission when you kill Goldberg (the lawyer) after you kill him. Shoot out the window & you can jump out that way.

Sadly its unlikely for Niko to ever return or even get an off-screen/teased happy ending as Rockstar and Niko's voice actor had a fallout. Michael Hollick, the voice actor tried to fight for royalties after the sales of the game, as many other video game voiceactors automatically get, but Rockstar just cut ties with him in response.

Those were good points but i still think trevor more dangerous than Niko he's too unpredictable and he's the first canonical serial killer protagonist he is a cannibal and the contract DLC for GTA online confirms that the special abilities are Cannon so Trevor can go Invincible for 30 seconds

I just finished the game and I’ve realized something after all these years. I think little Jacob was an informant. A news article in the game said that a wire tap picked up the last conversation that Elizabeta had, which pointed to the cutscene with Niko, little Jacob and elizabeta arguing. The police intercepted that same attempt to get the drugs backs and when Niko gets the drugs back little Jacob leads him to a place where Amanda was waiting to take the drugs from him. We know Niko worked with the government and the police so it makes sense why he got away with his crimes. But there was no indication that little Jacob did. So either he was an informant or also did jobs for the government which I doubt because Niko was more trustworthy and professional in that regard.

Niko was one of the more morally sound protagonists.. hell do you know how many hoods I wiped out with CJ? 😭Tommy from vice city was a street soldier turned mob boss took over a whole mob from victor diaz, Franklin wasn’t too big on killing, Michael has been running heists with Trevor and killing for years to get his forune

Niko Bellic is the best GTA character in my opinion. The backstory that he has is very real and unfortunate. He leaves his home country as he’s not only trying to get away from those trying to kill him and away from the place where he saw his childhood friends die in the war, but also out for revenge against the person who betrayed him and everyone in his unit as only he and two others survived the ambush that the betrayer set up with the enemy. Niko also is implied to have committed war crimes in addition to the already horrible things he’s seen and done in the war. His war experience is the reason why he has a very cynical view of the world, though despite the cynicism Niko still has a conscious, where I could see somebody might not have one after everything they’ve been through. When he gets to America, he’s not only driven to find who betrayed him and his unit, but also is trying to create a new life for himself, but he finds he’s not really able to avoid doing crime work as well as work with the government in order to find out exactly who betrayed him and his friends. There are of course moments where Niko can spare somebody and thinks about who he’ll kill, rather than just killing someone for the sake of it. Of course, he comes to America to see his cousin Roman, who has been in Liberty City for a decade by the time Niko arrives, while also trying to start a new life, but he isn’t exactly trying to chase the American dream like many others who arrive from other countries. Francis' death is canon, because Packie mentions his death in GTA 5, and he mentions that Derrick died from an overdose. I'm also pretty certain that Ray was planning on betraying Niko as well, but when his plan to kill Johnny failed, he realized that maybe killing Niko wouldn't be a smart idea.

Niko witnessed the Yugoslavia civil war. It was a horrible war, Srebrenica just to name a very sad event. He just became broken inside, knowing only violence and death

Niko is more targeted, sure he’s may or may not be the most trustworthy for other fellow criminals, especially depending on the player’s actions, but for Niko himself, it’s about who has money. He mostly kills either for revenge, or if he’s simply told to do it, or if someone is troubling a friend of his. He’s kinda like a mercenary working for the mafia. A criminal, but has reason, and moral reason if you pick the right criminals to kill. Trevor is more chaotic and emotional, he’ll kill uninvolved or innocent people on a whim for existing, and his planning is more messy and by his own accord a lot of the time, but he gets the job done as a criminal, he’ll find a way, albeit more destructive.

I have only played gta 5 but that game and the franchise as a whole is full of talented and dangerous individuals in it which was why in 5 I spared Trevor and Michael’s life knowing that their deaths would have made no difference what so ever. Even if they died there would be other psychopaths to take their place with some being more dangerous even after one of them dies or both.

I had a blast playing GTA 4 back in the day. I’d played and beaten GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas but all the additions to GTA4 made it a different experience. 4 was the first time I played online with my friends and it was my gateway. The experience seems to just get better since GTA5 has been a damn revolution. I can’t wait to see what 6 has in store

Claude in gta 3 is the most evil/dangerous protagonist in the gta series he’s killed WAY MORE people not just in the story in gta 3 but 9 years Pryor he and Catalina committed robberies across the country and even after he kills her at the end of the game he most likely still goes on any job to get paid cash he’s similar to the gta online character where they’ll do any job for money.

Don't forget assassination missions that are canon in GTA IV as they have some story in them. And the people he has to kill in random encounters. Niko also has 30 most wanted criminals to kill in LC, and usually you have to take out quite a few guys before you get the the one you're after, but yes, not much story in it.

Everything Niko does is in the pursuit of protecting Roman,his friends and their wellbeings and lifestyles, Niko has many psychological dilemmas where he questions his own actions as you progress through the game,Trevor does things in the pursuit of his own ambitions and fantasies of thinking he's some big shot businessman despite living out of a trailer and gaslighting his neighbours into thinking he's their friend despite him treating them like dirt. Niko doesn't seem to enjoy killing people where as Trevor seems to revel in the chaos, Niko is the better character though.

Honestly yeah the heists in GTA 5 are ok, but I feel as if they are over used and milked by Rockstar for money. In GTA 4, the bank job heist was legendary not just because it was a bank rob, but because it wasn't overused. We only had one mission which was a bank job, and it felt sort of realistic like what an actual bank job would feel like or like the ones shown in the movies. What makes it so good is that it makes more logical sense than GTA 5, as in real life, if you have a successful bank job, it would only occur once as the cops would be looking for the robbers and would be on high alert for any potential future attempts. GTA 5 is overdone and makes no sense with the bank jobs. To be honest, there are too many bank jobs in GTA 5, and it would not make much sense in real life.

Actually went back to GTA 4 for the first time since release and I connected with Niko and Roman way more now that I'm older and more into the story elements. Niko being asked about his old life and how he found his aunt (Roman's mother) raped and murdered but allowed Roman to believe she simply died in a fire was rather harrowing. He lived a hard life and both endings being bad endings sucks but also isn't surprising for a person like him. I'm of the belief characters like him do not deserve a happy ending, as much as I might like them by the end of the game/show.

To be fair, I think Niko can choose to only kill the one target in the hospital, by way of disguise.
