Being the grandson of a Greek lady, foreighners really light up when they hear their own language in a “ mostly English setting”.

I was studying in university abroad for 4 years, imagine how happy I was to bump into someone from my own country and get a chance to speak my own language. I believe the same goes for everyone when you're away from home for a long time. Homesickness hits hard sometimes.

We didn't see him talking that much during the entire season (press conferences) :D as a European guy, I can totally understand him, how good it feels when someone actual speaks your language.

As a polyglot, it's very frustrating when people speak to you like a child when they hear your accent. I've had 6th graders talk down to me while using incorrect grammar themselves. I totally get his surprise and immediate change in how relaxed and talkative he becomes hearing his own language.
