Hey, everyone. I just got my access to my channel back. Sorry I let you down and haven't delivered more episodes with subs as I promised. I won't promise anything this time though. Hope you're all doing good
@@pr1vada thank you somuch..I have like downloaded the series but then Wats the use with no subtitle..I used translator app but its exhausting and takes away the very essence of it..anyways now atleast I can see some important parts with exact subtitle..Thank you☺️
love it how Stavrogin cleans Verhovensky’s blood out of his hand with such a disgust, as if he is not the reason Verhovensky is bleeding in the first place
Agreed on both counts. One of the best novels, and this scene really is the true heart of the entire thing. Pyotr and Stavrogin are negotiating the true nature of the human Devil. Stavrogin and Shatov are supposed to be our Devils, but I think the true Devils are Pyotr and Julia.
@@Herintruththelies How is shatov supposed to be more of a devil than any of the other characters? With the excpeption of Kirillov, he seemes to be the purest, not that it is a high bar to reach.
@Balderbrok You know what? You're right. I really don't know why I included Shatov with Stavrogin as a 'Devil'. I think about this book often. I think the Devils are also the 'people of low character's, the 'scum' as the author calls it. There are similar scenes spoken about in Orwell and Hemingway... about the scum rising.
@@terrapinalive8686 Julia Mikhilova (spelling from memory, might be wrong). She's the governor's wife and is the one who surrounds herself with young people of low moral character and allows them maximum liberality. It is this group of people that Pyotr is seeking to control indirectly by controlling Julia directly.
I rewatch this video so much it's exactly how I imagine it when I read the book. I do not understand a word of russian and I can say this is one of the best acted scenes in any film or series that I've seen
Good God, Anton Shagin is perfect! That is without any doubt one of the most intense scenes I've ever watched. Especially the last minute gives me goosebumps.
The novel was written almost half century before Bolshevik revolution, yet it fully predicted it, replace Russia with USA and you get today’s America in spades, chilling, Dostoevsky was a prophet.
Excited. I found a dvd copy and ordered! Cannot wait. Reading the book in English and Russian. What a prophet Dostoevsky was about our days. Ideology politics. Could have been written today
When I read this book, it reminded me that we see Pyotr Stepanovitchs every day, especially in the media. It's scary to see the amount of chaos one or a few people can cause with the right words and means
They poorly cast Stavrogin. Not nearly dark nor blank enough. He wouldn't show flashes of rage with Verkhovensky, but would remain placid and indifferent. The actor playing Verkhovensky though is doing the heavy lifting here; great casting and acting.
Interesting comparison of the relationships between Nikolai's mother and Pyotr's father and Nikolai and Pyotr themselves. Both Stavrogins' have their own leech though Nikolai's mother was investing in a man she was wishing to make renowned while Pyotr had similar hopes for her son except devoid of any desire that he really be great.
Fantastic scene from the heart of the novel. I only wish they took another minute or so to elaborate on "shigalyovism" and the elimination of education and higher thinking, because in the revolutionaries minds education creates only despotism and hierarchy.. something Jordan Peterson elaborates wonderfully on, and something Dostoevsky truly prophesied.
I was really surprised to learn that Dostoevsky might have deliberately hinted at Pyotr being homosexual. There was a bit of a research on it even in the Soviet era - the word itself was never mentioned, but there were other descriptions like him being "sexless", "decadent", attracted to handsome young men (Stavrogin), very fashion-concious, not having any affairs with women, his facial hair not really growing much - hinting at some hormonal problem, eccentric mannerisms, etc. Apparently, for Dostoevsky it made the character as demonic as possible, added to the rest of his behavior. Which is awfully homophobic for our age, of course, but still rather interesting.
‘The Demons’ is a book that talks about the spirits of revolution and rebellion as literal demonic entities, a parasitic growth in a state guided by orthodoxy, that resulted from people turning away from God, from morals and tradition, to the barren European illuminism that promised nothing but death. And you talk about homophobia? Do you realize how naive you sound? What do you suppose Dostoyevsky’s attitude towards gays would be if he were alive today?? No matter how hard the West tries to shame us for being allegedly backwards and close-minded for not tolerating homosexuality, we will always regard it as exactly what it is - a social virus and an abomination, and looking at America today, it’s more than enough proof that those words are true. In conclusion - don’t try to filter Dostoyevsky. His words will never fully make sense to a westerner, and that’s ok.
Hi! thank you for uploading this video. Are you still working on english subtitles for this show? That would be wonderful! Thank you once again for your efforts, you're a legend

This is the hidden gem of Dostoevsky As far as i know he himsef considered this book one of his greatest work ever Crime and Punishment Idiot and Karamazov's are great too, but the depth of Dostoevsky is nowhere as near
The cinematography was fine imo. When your actors are that good and the subject matter is that deep, you do yourself a disservice by using camera tricks to distract from it and/or show off.
Where can I watch this series? I just finished the novel and would love to watch but it is not available on Amazon for purchase or anywhere else i've searched.
I am currently working on it (making subs for this TV series)but I am afraid it will take some time. You see, it is 4 episodes more than an hour each. I will let you know when I am finished.
I uploaded the full episode so I could add subs to it but it was claimed and blocked immediately. Then I decided to go to the official channel but it is forbidden to add subs to their videos. Well, sorry but now I can't do what I promised.
Are there English versions of Dostoyevsky's books? Or with English subtitles even better. I am also looking for an analysis of Dostoyevsky's books on who his real-life people's books represent. There are strong suggestions that Pyotr Verkhovensky is Mikhail Butashevich Petrashevky (Petrashevsky Circle).
check Stremio (a p2p streaming app)... I've read this book in Spanish, Ediciones Libertador, and the prologue says that Verkhovensky is Serguei Nechaev, a contemporary nihilist who has also been condemned as "an infamous character" by Marx and Engels. The prologue also says that Dostoyevski used the name of Nechaev in his first drafts, before coming up with the fictional name of Pyotr. On the other hand, Dostoyevski was part of the Petrashevsky Circle and got bitterly disappointed with the revolutionary groups of his day and place...
@@tomsterling7195 Ecaxtly. I just saw a theatre adaption of "Demons". It's understandable they add things. In this TV-version Stavrogin is in the centre of everything, not Stepan Trofimovich. In both adaptations they left something very important out, namely that when Stepan Trofimovich leaves the town, he starts to earn his living by selling bibles: he is the only one who has remorse.
Thats true did not in the book, the director was just inspired by a painting called vanity by jan van hemessen, it appears in the movie as well as he talked about too
@@splendiddox6408 Yeah, I saw that painting now, thanks. He slightly changed the profile of Stavrogin, who was not a polymath but a womanizer. In theatrical adaption which I saw in Vienna, the director played a lot Rammstein style of music, very loud. This created a strange contrast since the crowd was old.
Глупость написали. Достоевский глубже, чем чьи бы то ни было захватнические амбиции. Подумали бы лучше про "слезинку ребенка" - и то, сколько детей погибло в Украине под российскими ракетами.
