Is it a good choice for an intermidiate photographer?

mmm well probably not. An intermediate photographer it is supposed to be the one who has already gained some knowledges on dslr use (or mirroless, nowadays), it has experience with manual controls and he knows the basic rule of composition. Probably it is not your first camera so I would rather point another segment on the market, let's say D7xxx series (if you stick with Nikon). D7200 at present offer the most advantageous features and performance. That sensor inside the D7200 is still the best in terms of Dynamic Range, details, color depth and low light performance (for an APS-C of course) beaten only slightly by the D500 but in the ISO, because despite this latter is a top level aps-c the 24MP sensor of D7200 still returns better overall performance if you need high level of details.

@@FilipG6 the thing about this camera is that it doesn't have wifi so no option for remote photography unless u buy one externally. The video quality is good and supports 60fps at 1080p. The drawback however is it doesn't have a built it stabiliser. The camera is really good for photography though.

@@FilipG6 you can only transfer pictures using Nikon snapbridge via Bluetooth. For videos you'll have to use HDMI or USB cable.

Deborah Lopez they are virtually the same. i believe nikon has discontinued the d3400 and made it the d3500. they are the same, when looking at the important specs

Nben 1901 I say go for it! It's a great deal for what you get (valued at around $600 as of my purchase in June). The 18-55mm Kit Lens is a great beginner lens, as goes for this beginner DSLR. It's the perfect package to either start with, or upgrade from you're phone, pocket camera, or point and shoot. I highly recommend this camera! Nikon does not dissapoint! - Connor

Yes, it's a great camera! Shoots at 1080p 60fps! Just, if you're planning to shoot an actual movie that would be shown in cinemas, you have to get the better and WAY more expensive ones! :D Thanks! - Connor

Bobby Shmurda What cameras are you talking about? The really expensive film ones (from $50,000-$100,000) or the Nikon D3400 ($600)?

The D3400 doesn't have a mic port, and only records audio from the built-in mic. Which isn't a good mic at all, and doesn't pick up sound great. Picks up more background sound than actual sound. There's alternatives, like an external mic, which can be matched together in post. Other than that, yeah. The flaw with this camera is no mic port...

Personally, I feel that is only an issue if you are intending to use this camera for vlogging otherwise you can plug a mic in your pc or your laptop and record sound from your computer. Then use the audio from your computer and add it your video.

Focal range doesn't depend on the actual camera itself, it depends on the lens you use on your camera, in your case you are looking for a macro lens. There is no mic port. But the previous model (Nikon D3300) has a mic port, which doesn't make any sense. But this camera is great for photography and video, just sucks at picking up audio. If you are looking for a great camera with a mic port, look towards the Nikon D3300, or the Canon T6i...

Depends what you're looking for. Nikon D3200 = Video Nikon D3400 = Photography Both shoot great, but one shoots video better than the other...

Photography best quality/price for entry level (only considering d3xxx series) is the D3300. Same sensor, features, ergonomy, file output of the D3400 which has only the Bluetooth and black shutter button insted of silver....... no comment about its importance.... in terms of Better overall entry level camera between series d3xxx and d5xxx, certainly the D5300 or D5500 (minor upgrade that has a noce features though which is Auto ISO during time lapse) win hands down. D5500 and D5600 are esentially the same doesn't worth buy D5600 cause has only bluetooth whereas the D5500 the wifi... not so mich different to share your shots with phone but definetely useful to save money and invest them in a good lens. D5xxx series has improved color bit from 12 to 14bit, same sensor of 24Mp that is the same also in d7xxxx series and d3xxx as well (made by Sony by the way) but the algorithm of the processors has much more capability of processing files in a better way. Hence, the output of d5xxx are slightly better and almost comparable with d7200 which has though, on its side, a better built quality, sealing, ergonomics and customizations. If someone would ask me now which camera is better to start with... certainly I will suggest D5300 or D5500 in Nikon. For video the matter is different... unless you will practice manual focus (which is how many professional work daily actually) you'd better moving to Sony first or Canon cause the AF capability in video mode are much better than Nikon. Nikon, on the other hand, still remains a a step above the others in my opinion for photography (both APS-C and Full Frame). Their Sensor and processors are capable to capture an incredible, color shades and dynamic range that in Post production make lots of difference to recover shadows and highlights better than any other camera at the moment.
