The bigger the number, the closer is it, the less light that comes through, the lower the number, the more open is it, more light, but to put it simple, the bigger the number, the bigger in depth, the lower the number, the less depth you have. So, if you want to take a picture with the back blurry, put a lower f, but if you want to see the front and back, use a bigger f. Correct any

They aren't sealed. I got mine from a local retailer and it wasn't sealed. Though the lens and camera body were. I also have some sample pics up if you want to see more from an amateur. Though the shots are pretty good.

@Luigivampa1 I'm willing to bet that it is a kit lens. Why? Because I just bought this camera, and my pictures are stunning with the kit lens, especially the closeup shots.

TheTinytinap to take pictures with low light, you use a bigger ISO, thats the sensitivity of the camera, or the sensitivity in the films we use to use with non digital cameras. More ISO lets you get more light. Also, work with a lower f so you get more light going in, but also lower depth of field. But I think if you use a great ISO you still will be able to use a bigger f, that I m not sure.

I need you help. I have the NikonD5100 also. LOVE the camera but how do you take night shots. At night when i want to take pictures it keeps telling me the shot is to dark. Then it uses flash even though i don't want it. Help me please! Thank you. Love the photos you have taken by the way :)
