I just picked up a "mint" F6 with a high serial number and couldn't be happier. I've decided to go back to film for portraits and landscapes. Film has better resolution (87MP for 35mm film) and I know I'm getting the actual colors. I have never liked the deBayering process, where a computer tries to guess what color a pixel should be. With film, that's not an issue.

Actually, it's quite the other way. The F801 paved the way as a camera ahead of its time w/ modern ergonomic feel to what the F5 look would be and where new DSLR followed from. The F4 was 1 in a kind keeping the manual look / feel of the F3 days to satisfy the pros who didn't take to the new F501 & F801's digital look. I moved from an F5 into a new D3S FX and it felt at home. But before then, Coming from an F3P myself , the F4E was amazing, so classic but yet so pro function. I think the F6 didn't get the F5 treatment is the lack of Pro sales in the film scene by then . The D2H was the DSLR to win the pros over from film finally & the D3S made it more clear of the FX future of digital. Congrats on your brilliant camera. (:

The only thing that keeps me from getting a F6, is the price. Way too expensive. But I have a F100 and F5, which did not cost much. And they are awesome.
@SprocketHoles

The F6 is a steep price for a very small bump in performance. I had an f100, as long as you are careful with the film door so the latch wont break it will last a long time.

I like your review. You got the F6 for a great price! Also, seeing the distance from which you took pictures and seeing the results were a good way for me to gauge the impact of using lenses of various focal lengths. I also have the 105mm f2 DC lens. It was good to see that the bokeh was still good (to my eyes at least) even if you used expired film. Thanks for making this video.

I use my F6 with an 85 f/1.4 for portraits and it nails focus and exposure every time I shoot it wide open. Absolutely love this camera!

The F4 was “crude looking”? Come on now, we all know that’s not true. The F4 is a masterpiece of industrial design with outstanding ergonomics.

I always thought the F6 looked ugly with the same design ques as the D2 and D200 with the grey plate around the shutter button. The F5 is far more beautiful looking!

I’ve thought about replacing my F100 with one, especially given the fragile film door (I haven’t had an issue… yet), but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Too many other cameras I also want!

There are repair kits on ebay for the f100 film door. It seems to be a guide to file down the door so a replacement metal catch can glued in.

Hello. I follow your RU-vid channel regularly, a little while ago I read an article about the Red Scale film, that Lomography made with Alex Doran and recognized you and your beloved Nikon in one of the photos 🙂 I guess you are friends or acquaintances. How small the world is 🙂

The 2 best Nikons for lens compatibility are the F4 and Df.
@Dressommer
@Dressommer Год назад
Is the DF more compatible than 780 or D4? Just curious.
@robiulahmed
@robiulahmed Год назад
@@Dressommer Yes. It has a flip up aperture indicator tab, meaning you can mount pre-ai lenses. On later cameras, you can only mount them if the lenses have been modified.

I just bought one. I mean in the middle of this video. I paused the video and went to eBay and clicked the button. $930US with tax from Japan, 0022xxx serial number. The deciding feature for me was the option to leave the leader out when rewinding. I process my own film and this is a big convenience. I will be using it with a Sigma Art 24-105, I am hoping that the VR will work because it doesn't on my F100.
@SprocketHoles
@SprocketHoles 13 дней назад
That VR might not work still. But you can get a 24-105 Nikon f4 used for pennies nowadays and it works fine. I use it travelling. One tip for leaving the leader out, make sure to kink the leader when you take it out so you know which rolls have been shot so you don't shoot it twice.

Pretty sure you could always reverse the controls. I know my D300 could and I think my D200 could also back in 2005.

You should try shooting that 1974 expired TMax 400 at ISO 100 and pull process it -2 stops... I've been experimenting with old expired film, and in almost every case I need to over-expose it by at least one stop... unless I can be assured it was consistently cold-stored in a freezer, which isn't easy to confirm.

I wonder if Nikon could add E lens compatibility with a new firmware upgrade. Would this be possible in theory? Or does that need some hardware addon which this F6 camera lacks?

Leica still makes the MP and MA There’s a decent number of large format makers like intrepid and Linhof. I think the Hy2 Mod6 is still made by Rollei but it’s like 8-10k

If people want all of these features but want to pay radically less money buy a Minolta dynax 7 . I’ve had both cameras . Minolta dynax 7 is sleeper camera . Only thing that Nikon has that wins is use of Nikon g lenses which makes it super quite to focus .

I bought one this week. Autofocus was intermittent and backfocused by a foot! It went back to the shop. Meanwhile, the F100 i bought new in 2000 is still working perfectly, and the F5 I bought secondhand a couple of years ago works fine too. Save yourself some money and buy one of those, or an F4.
