Both excellent cameras! The z7ii is my choice for proffesional work hands down but my z6ii if im not shooting to enlarge hugely or crop in to excessively i think is an absolutely fantastic stills camera! Files are smaller and easier to work with…. I find myself shooting with my z6ii way more than my z7ii…. But in total as image quality/ noise control and build quality go the nikon z cameras are streets ahead of any other brand, the af is catching up very quickly and in any other settings except eye af is class leading…. The eye af firmware updates later this year that will trickle down from the z9 will make them easily on par with canon and sony but with all the other for mentioned qualities being better in every way! Good on nikon

I have had great luck with the eye AF even in its current iteration… cannot wait for it to be even better. I am a huge fan of the Z6 II and marvel that it has received any shade whatsoever… it is a huge step forward from the D750 in the AF department and because of the IBIS. I only have one Z lens (50 F1.8) but is is absolutely impressive and seems to work even better for AF than my adapted Sigma and Nikon lenses. I’m very happy with Nikon and glad I stuck with them as I contemplated, based on internet influencers, switching to Sony or Canon.

OG Z6 and Z7 with latest firmware update can also be set to remember the last AF position before being turned off. Resorting to infinity focus on power up is however rather helpful in astrophotography, so nice that this option remained.

This is kool, more input in the future on how any camera shoots in manual in these conditions would be a great addition for someone like me who as of now shoots pure manual on a Z7iii , nice set up!

I'm very pleased with my z6 ii. Is it technically possible to allow 10 bit 4k 60 fps to atomos ninja v via a firmware update?
@BandH
@BandH 3 года назад
The Nikon Z6II will output in External Recording Mode: 4:2:2 10-Bit UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) and Full HD (1920 x 1080). Firmware version 1.10 unlocks UHD 4K recording at 60p and 50p frame rates and enables raw video output to Blackmagic Design Video Assist external recorders, and also improves eye-detection performance Auto-Area AF and Wide-Area AF modes. >Mark

@@BandH Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. Is it possible to upgrade via software to allow 10 bit 4k 60 fps? I wish the nikon z6 ii wasn't limited to 8 bit when recording 60 fps 4k.

Hi is Z6 ii good for low light photography?
@BandH
@BandH Год назад
yes! it's full frame sensor, and ISO range are great for low lighting.

z7ii or z6ii for portraits? Or it doesn't really make a big difference when editing?

hello, nice presentation. i switched from d750 to z6ii and I am very happy. But eye detection is not as good as R5 or alpha 7m3 so still use single focus point. Good idea your trick using eye detection in red wide-L box ! at least, even if we miss the eye, we get the face sharp :-) I hope with two cpu Nikon will learn form their competitors and won't wait a 8000usd Z9 to fix AF. I am using same sandisk than you but a lexar usb 3.1 type-c reader and the CFExpress card is quickly hot i can't handle in my hand after 20min in the reader. is it normal and not destructive for CF card ?

Im a D750 owner - I just shot a event hybrid next to a A73 owner. The AF on the A73 is a world different. It hit home to me how useful reliable AF can be. I really want the best in my next camera - so at the moment I may switch to sony or canon. Im thinking probably the R6.

in december i wanted to switch to coming alpha 7m4 but it was always postponed so i migrated to z6ii to, at least, keep my godox v1, xpro, x2t... i first started with FTZ but i was upset and sold all my lens to use Z lens and they are amazing. when i read youtube tutos on sony lenses many people advise other brands because GM master was not as good,... with Z i had no choice and they are really amazing !

@@marclabro what Z do you own.
@fjaajf
@fjaajf 3 года назад
@@markshirley01 I used to own the Z6 and that has far more worse AF but I got around with it by giving myself some time to get used to the equipment in hand and understanding its strengths and weakness rather than comparing it with other manufacturer's cameras of the time. The Z6II/Z7II are way better in my opinion, though I have moved to Sony with A7R IV - all I can say is the grass ain't greener on the other side. The Z9's success will trickle down to the lower tier cameras and hopefully newer Nikon cameras will benefit from it.

It is known and reported by many users that CFexpress cards run hot. This is not an issue operationally though. It is totally normal and safe. >Mark

iso800, 1/50, f4 is not low light...what if location needs ISO 6400, how would it work in that conditions?
@BandH
@BandH 3 года назад
While not extremely bright, f/4 at 1/50 sec at ISO 800 would be the equivalent of an exposure value of EV 7, which would be the equivalent of a brightly lit nighttime street, indoor sports, or a stage show. f/4 at 1/50 sec at ISO 6400 would be the equivalent of an exposure value of EV 4, which would be the equivalent of candle lit close-ups, night interiors, Christmas lights, floodlit buildings, or subjects under bright street lamps. The Nikon Z7 II Mirrorless Digital Camera's metering range is from EV -3 to +17, and autofocus detection is between EV -4 to +19. The Nikon Z6 II Mirrorless Digital Camera's metering range is from EV -4 to +17, and its autofocus detection is between EV -6 to +19. Both exposures you list above at ISO 800 (EV 7) and ISO 6400 (EV 4) are well within the camera's exposure and autofocus range, and should perform well in your listed range.

@@BandH the best answer I gotfor my question so far. Thanks a lot. Im using D750 and DSLR cameras support IR beam from on body flash for indoor event photography (people here consider dark as pleasing ambient atmosphere) so Im scared if I upgrade to Z6II will it perfome. Thanks again, such an amazing answer.

artificial.....why not go to a REAL concert and see how they perform? that's the real test, not this.
@HJN67
@HJN67 3 года назад
The problem is that under a real concert you can't control the light to a degree where you can test the cameras low light AF against each other, which I guess was the point of this photoshoot. Also, photoshoot does not mean a live shoot. A photoshoot is controlled.
@martysender5539

I photograph a lot of concerts and was hoping to find information on how the focus handles here. Haven't heard anything concrete yet about how well the eye AF handles in that kind of environment. If it's controlled, you can get great results, if it can hold its own in a dynamic environment like that...all the better.

Still getting amateur and professionals to buy the most expensive cameras and lenses huh? If you can get them to waste their money, why not? Just make sure it's gear you need and not want. Or told to want!
