Nikon Z8 - 4K 24p Handheld 105mm Video Sample - Straight From Camera

I know what you're thinking. WHO is crazy enough to shoot video with a Z 8 using internal mics (on Auto, even)? Well, here's your chance to hear what it sounds like. :-) And no, I wouldn't normally use internal mics. For this set of video clips, I was using the following gear/settings (see below):
- Nikon Z 8
- Nikon MC Z 105mm f/2.8 lens
- Everything is handheld - VR on (Normal, not sport)
- Aperture Priority
- Highlight Weighted Meteing
- 4K / 24p
- H.265 8-bit
- Portrait Picture Control
- Auto White Balance (A2 - 'Keep warm lighting colors')
- Auto Area - Area Mode (subject detection off)
- AF-F - Focus Mode
- VR on
- Internal Microphones (set to Auto, wind noise reduction set to off)
- Video clips were joined together in DaVinci Resolve 18 and exported as 4K for RU-vid (MP4)

Hello, Enjoyed watching the video, nice and relaxing. This came up in my feed and the title got me to click. Got a Z8 a couple days ago. So much to learn. Appreciate you showing your settings , haven't really tried the vid yet. Gotta work out the auto focus for real tomorrow. thanks - Tim

Thanks. Enjoy your new Z8! The AF is a deep topic. Lots of customization available, but in the end, I tend to keep it as simple as possible.

Listen for the woodpecker :-) He's in the video a few times (his sound). Also at 3:30 this little mama bird was not too happy with me for being too close to her nest, which is inside the barn about 8 feet from where she is sitting. It's a beautiful moss covered nest, full of healthy babies :-). Good job, Mama. Currently, the old barn (which is in bad shape now) is home to her babies as well as 2 large turkey vulture babies. So, while the old barn doesn't have much use to me these days, it's a safe home for various birds to raise their young (and I enjoy watching the progress).

Thanks for sharing, I have a Z8 on order and was curious how the IBIS would look on hand held video. Thanks for sharing the variety of clips!

Thank you. In my opinion the IBIS is better than the Z7 II I had before.

Doesn't this lens have built-in VR, though? @@ThePhotographyHobbyist Is it possible to test hand held video on a lens that doesn't have VR, such as an adapted or vintage lens?

I have an older example with the Z7 (the Z8 should have a little better VR)( and this is with the 24-70 lens that didn't have VR built in: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sxfXoGKAjuY.html @@theclifbar
