Thanks so much for your video. More information, to their shame, than we are ever going to get from Nikon. Thanks again.

Mine was sent to Signal Hill and it was returned exactly as you described, wrapped in plastic bubbles, with the box filled with foam peanuts. I don't have a problem with that. It took Nikon 7 days to get me the shipping label, but it took Nikon less than 24 hours to repair and ship the Z8 back to me. I dropped the Z8 off at UPS on Monday and got it back on Saturday. Great video.

Thanks. Getting it back in a reasonable amount of time, totally fixed and in the same visual appearance you sent it to them in is what counts. :) Glad your experience was also positive.

I have a big shoot next weekend, and then I'll probably send mine in (again) the following week. Thank goodness I have the Z9 as a backup. By the way, There's a lot of beautiful images on your gallery. Very nice indeed!!

I forgot to mention a little workaround for anyone that has a Z8 affected by this and they can’t send it in right away. You can take a short piece of black shoe string and tie it through each of the camera strap metal triangles so that if one of the lugs pulls out, the strap itself is still connected on both sides to the camera, but only at one lug, which should be enough to, save the camera from falling.

The video from for ZFC looks gorgeous! Looks like Arri Alexa or high end RED camera. I wish Nikon would release a 10 bit ZFC with ability to record internal ProRes and N-Log.

That’s auto white balance A2 also (A2 = auto white balance, keep warm lighting colors).

Very nice bokeh on that lens 👍🏼 Would be interesting to see how it deals with background highlights at 1.8
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 11 месяцев назад
You mean like having the sun directly in the background or a bright light from a lightbulb?
@aussie8114
@aussie8114 11 месяцев назад
@@ThePhotographyHobbyist I think it’s called specular highlights, where there are small bright reflections or light points. This can look weird and distracting. I’ve taken some nice photos with my F mount G lenses where I’ve needed to edit out these specular highlights from the background foliage bokeh. I tend to think your lens would handle them well but not sure. Find a bush that has large shiny leaves then spray it with some water to allow the bright sun to reflect into the water drops on the leaves, that should cause specular highlights in a photo. On a side note some lenses lose a large amount of contrast when the light source is in view. I have a really nice old 300mm f4 which performs great with the light source basically behind you, but performs horribly if the light source is in the field of view. Most lenses lose some contrast with the light source in the field of view but some can be far worse than others.

@@aussie8114 OK, I know what you mean. I'll try to remember to check on this in the near future if I have a shrub or other plant to test this easily (depends on where the sun is in the frame).

What is the difference in the focusing systems between the ZFC and the Z50 ???? Thanks
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 10 месяцев назад
The Zfc has the newer AF Area Modes like the Z6 II and Z7 II, such as [Wide-area AF (L-people)]. The Z50 doesn't have those. Z 50: onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z50/en/05_basic_settings_01.html#af-area_mode Z fc: onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/zfc/en/05-01.html#05-01_004

What happened to your Fuji X-H2? Is the Z8 that much better? Just curious, being a Fuji shooter. Thanks.
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 10 месяцев назад
The Z8 is better in some ways but that's not the overall reason why I went back to Nikon. In general, I prefer Nikon's way of doing things over other brands (the features, ergonomics, button layout, etc). Some other little reasons also, like the fact that I've never been a big fan of the x-trans files because they are bigger (disk space) then they need to be and Adobe products don't handle them very well (the artifacts), so it's just a combo of little reasons why I went back to Nikon, not any big deficiencies on Fuji's part. The X-H2 is a great camera.

ordered y Z8 in august 9th, hasn't shipped yet :(, and also my 70-180mm feels like it's always wobbling inside when carrying it should i be concerned?
@ThePhotographyHobbyist
@ThePhotographyHobbyist 11 месяцев назад
If you ordered it on August 9, then I think the unit you get will be unaffected by any of those service advisories. Regarding the lens, without looking up the details on that lens I assume it’s a lens with image stabilization/VR and therefore, if the camera is not powered on, I believe you’ll hear the lens element that floats on the image stabilization mechanism. It’s common to hear some VR lenses make a little noise when the camera is powered off, especially third-party lenses. I believe that 70-180 is actually made by Tamron.

@@ThePhotographyHobbyist it’s the brand new one from Nikon actually, but yeah I just wish it would come sooner. Summer is almost done and I’d like to shoot abit of summer with it. But I guess I’ll have to wait still

@@ThePhotographyHobbyist it’s like a wobbly feeling with the new Nikkor 70-180 lens
@ThePhotographyHobbyist

@@ZhaVioRxGFX What I heard is all the stock that was affected was sent back to Nikon to get the strap lug fix completed and a new batch would be hitting the US stores very soon, if not already. If you find it in stock at one of the other larger camera stores, it should be safe to get one now (no service advisory issues) but I don't know if you're able to cancel your other order. Often it's much quicker to get the cameras from regular Nikon dealers. I got mine on release day from a tiny camera store near where I live.

@@ZhaVioRxGFX If this is the lens you're referring to, it doesn't look like it has VR (image stabilization), so I'm not sure what you'd be hearing wobbling around inside. www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/mirrorless-lenses/nikkor-z-70-180mm-f%252f2.8.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-Overview

The most worrying thing is that this lugs Nikon has been producing for decades. I hope this is not a degradation of the company's engineers.
@ThePhotographyHobbyist

Hard to say what happened in this case, but it sounds like up to a certain point, every single Z8 was affected, and they had to be sent back to Nikon before they were sold or after they were sold (sent back by the customer). I believe it was Thom Hogan that said they changed something a few weeks ago at the factory and she will no longer be an issue for the newer units. I have been buying Nikon cameras since 2004 starting with the D70 and almost never had any problems so this one really surprised me.
