Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards were The Neptunes of the 70's & 80's! I cant believe that they were on an episode of Unsung on TVOne! They gotta be more respected & appreciated than that! Nile & Bernard should've been in The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame awhile ago!
I wish he would have gave a little credit to Bernard Edward's ( RIP) for his Bass work. One of the best interviews of Master Musician I have ever heard. Thanks for your WORK!
Obviously, talent is a huge factor in having a lasting career but from what I've witnessed, humility leads to longevity. Every time I see someone whose had a lifetime of success, the one thing they all have in common is that they are genuinely nice and open-minded
HanzSygnal I just had a baby and she looks completely like my husband, but nothing like me. I am very worried that my husband has been cheating on me and I gave birth to her child. I am heartbroken thinking that I may someday have to give my baby girl to her real mother. My husband denies having an affair, but there is no way this baby is mine. How do I know?

Chic Cheer. That's the track! (Fatman Scoop / Faith Evans sampled) Nile is a LEGEND. Listened to Chic first in 1979, thanks to older sister, was 7 then. Own the C'est Chic vinyl still, and others, but also have the box set of cd's - Chic, C'est Chic, Risque, Real People & Take It Off. Classics. He was on the One Show in the UK last week, BBC One, always cheerful and respectful. LEGEND
Nile Rodgers is a genius! I always enjoy listening to him talk. I'm so glad he brought up Pop Musik by M. They had more of a right to sue Huey Lewis than he did to sue Ray Parker Jr. Great stuff Sway
Despite a less-than-smooth delivery, Sway gets the job done. This was one of the best interviews i've ever heard. OF COURSE having Nile Rodgers as the subject matter helps...
I was going into 6th grade in the summer of 1978. While passing by a record stand on the Asbury Park boardwalk I heard this percussive rhythm. I went up to the owner and asked him who is that. He said Chic “Everybody dance”... The first record I ever purchased with my own paper route money🎶
I'm really bothered by Niles' constant non-mention of Chic co-leader and bassist extraordinaire BERNARD EDWARDS, who co-wrote, if not primarily wrote and definitely performed the "Good Times" bass-line. Edwards was one of the premiere groove bassist of this century. It's wrong, low-integrity and disrespectful not to mention Edwards when discussing every hit Chic had or artist they produced. Even now, when "Chic" performs live, the bass playing and sound of Chic is sorely lacking (even if the bass player is adequate), because Edwards is not there. Niles should ALWAYS mention Edwards.
Upside Down by Diana Ross .. all my black friends taught me to dance, dunk and dress like the brothers..1978-1980....Upside Down is the BOMB.....you can't dance, you can't ball..you can't dunk...you have no GAME..Nile for President
One of your best interviews yet you all!! Hats off to Mr. Rodgers for being a pioneer AND embracing hip hop. He could have said (like many other) "no way" but he kept it 100%👍💙 SWAY CAN WE GET DAVID BANNER BACK ON THE SHOW TO HEAR HIS VIEWS ON THE CONFEDERATE FLAG TAKE DOWN AND SOUTH CAROLINA ???? MAN PLEEEAASSEEE!!!
Dude You Must Be Oprah Rich Then Nile, Jesus That Sound, My Hips Swing When I Hear That Sound, And I'm A Little Welsh White Dude With no swing or beat whatsoever. But I Get It, But Thank You And Madchester Came Along And The Stone Roses Came Along For Us In The Uk For My Generation, That Sound Blew Our Mind's because Mani, John Squire, Reni And Ian Knew And Loved Northern Soul And Created That Stone Roses Sound.
Fam when I first heard Blurred Lines, I IMMEDIATELY knew they copied the feel of the Marvin cut. I didn't know who the artist was, what the name of the song was nor did I know who produced it. I'd only heard it once before the legal battle started and I'd forgotten about it. Once I finally heard it again, I said to myself this gonna change the course of copyright law.
Black artists were only allowed 2 singles! No wonder their sales were so much lower than their counterparts. I guess labels used black artists as a farm system for new styles of music and if it works, put money behind other artists for big sales and profits. The originators get left with starting the trend ( over time that is forgotten about ) and very little money, a short career, or both.
And when an artist's material is so good that more than 2 singles are warranted (such as MJ's Off The Wall), they don't even get recognized for their brilliance and success. 4 singles from 'Off The Wall' and he only received one Grammy nod. Unbelievable.
The quote gets attributed to a lot of artists (T.S. Eliot and Picasso come to mind). If your only concern is who said it (or, rather, who said it first), you're missing the point being made.
Oh, Nile. Here you go again, taking all the credit again, acting as if Chic was solely your own creation or something. Of course, it wasn't. The one coming up with the bass line for Good Times was the one playing it: Bernard Edwards. Bernard was at least as important for Chic's sound as Nile was, and it's sad that Nile is just hogging all the praise for himself.
