Hello everyone!
This is a cover version of 'The Inevitable Degradation of Flesh' by Nile.
Needless to say, that I’m a huge George Kollias fan, due to his methods and flexibility.
I think he was one of the drummers who brought me to “Metal”. Since Annihilation of the Wicked I more or less studied his kind of drumming, his set up and his approach to this extreme style of music.
As you can tell it’s a fast one and I had to practice a lot to get back in shape. I really like fast songs, but it’s nothing I would play all day long in my rehearsing room. So once I decided to do this cover, it took me about two weeks to get the required power and endurance to nail some accurate tracks.
Here is the drums-only version:
• Nile - The Inevitable ...
Very special thanks to my buddies Bartol and Reinsn from bazn sounds & records, Sebastian form DreamCatch Audio!!!
I also want to thank Mark from Pedaltrigger and Fabian, Hendrick, Dieter (and everyone who's involved) from Murat Diril Cymbals for always supporting me the best possible way - THANK YOU!
If you want to get in contact:
www.pedaltrigger.com/
muratdiril.com/
Another special thanks goes out to the local Arts- and Music-School in my hometown (Deutschlandsberg) where I recorded everything. It’s actually the concert hall where I had my first “concerts” as a young student and so it just felt great to come back after more than 15 years. As a kid I never understood how important the environment you’re drumming in is for your wellbeing and of course for your sound. And this big wooden room, whit all it’s warmth just feels and sounds absolutely incredible!
Which leads to the next point:
Except for the bass drum and (not even half) of the snare drum, all the drum sounds are natural and as pure as possible. We spent a lot of time to set everything up! I also switched sticks - from regular 5a to 3a to get more power, but not by necessarily swinging the stick higher or hitting any harder but because of its shape.
For the bass I used a standard sample from the Steven Slate foundry and for the snare I mixed signals (about two thirds natural sound with eq, comp and just a little verb; and one third is again a standard snare from the Steven Slate foundry. I had to pitch the sound of the sample, so it would match my real snare and it’s just for the attack during all the blast beats.)
Furthermore I used
Dixon MBS shells (2x22", 8", 10", 12", 13", 16", 18")
p.d.p. Limited Edition 20ply Snare with Die Cast Hoops (14"x8")
Axis A Longboards
Roland SPD-S for triggering (bass drums)
And Murat Diril Cymbals:
20" t(h)rash crash with 6” renaissance splash on top
18" blast china
14" blast china
20” rock mega bell ride
14" custom arena hi hat
9" mini hats (renaissance splash bottom, luminous splash top)
7" & 8" renaissance splash
17" fast crash
16 speckled crash
18" fast crash
10" stack
18" rock china
19" rock china
22" rock mega bell ride
11" black sea hi hat
12" black sea trash hats
21" custom crash/ride

Anyone who questions what the point is for playing this type of music: "has no groove", "soulless", "lacks rhythm" etc. Do yourselves a favor, at least once in your life no matter how young or old, go to a real metal show - not some huge amphitheater, a REAL show in a rundown venue with a couple hundred people - and *experience* the energy. Even if you hate the music, or hate the atmosphere, you will at least understand why this genre appeals to people. This kind of music is not meant for radio play, or streaming on your phone. This type of music is meant to be *experienced* live and in person. The energy is indescribable. It appeals to and unlocks those primal, feral emotions most people keep suppressed in modern society. And the comraderie in the crowd is unique in the music world. Again, if you truly wonder what the point of this music is, go *feel* it for yourself.

show him also a lot of different drummers. i mean this style of drumming is technically top notch no doubt but (this is only my opinion) this kind of music itself is pretty much with little to no real variety and most of the fills and grooves (if they can be called as those) sound mostly the same. in jazz, funk, fusion, progressive metal you find a lot more variety and diversity so that a drummer can be versatile in all those styles.

@michel4743
@michel4743 2 года назад
Which is nothing but normal. Kollias is an early pioneer in speed drumming with speeds up to 280bpm. That's one reason he got famous for almost 2 decades ago, along with other mentionable drummers such as Derek Roddy. But these techniques they precedented have meanwhile been taken up and optiomized to perfection by people like Diepold. The new generation of drummers have long surpassed their idols, and in another decade they will have been surpassed as well by the next generation.

@@noneck9008 You kids keep amazing me with your level of ignorance. BPM has nothing to do with how many notes you can play within a certain interval of time. You can absolutely play faster and produce 1/8 of the hits in this song or you could play to a song with a slower pulse and go absolutely bonkers on the double bass and snare. Why did I even read those comments, honestly? And that absolute plonker Chase Hart saying Kollias is a soft hitter has probably never even touched a drum kit in his life let alone play one. Swivel is literally the technique that produces the hardest sound at such speeds with heel-toe being the quietest. David's playing heel-down in this video which is loud but not as loud as swivel or heel up. All the deathcore punks crank up their volume on the triggers to sound loud because doubles are incredibly quiet and people are like "Oh wow, so fast and precise". Of course it's precise and noisy when you've handed all your life savings to the sound engineer to fix your mess.

Narednik Lobanja Most Technical death isn't hard to remember, a lot of them have the same generic patterns, fills and speeds. And you don't remember tech death drumming note by note. You remember it by parts and structure
@NarednikLobanja
@NarednikLobanja 9 лет назад
FutileExistence while that is true, i think that the point of the comment was that the music had like a milion notes, not the drums. I do agree with you on the patterns, but have you tried to listen to Brain Drill? Try remembering something like that.

In oceans of notes, grooves present themselves to those who listen with their minds wide open. Steve Vai knows it, Gene Hoglan knows it...David Diepold knows it.

Is it weird the biggest thing I'm wondering is how he got to record in that room?? Oh, never mind. Just scrolled up and read the description. There's a lot of info in there! Nice ^_^

Its sad how amazing kollias is but he always uses the same fills. He could sound a lot better if he made more unique fills.

+blackhatch46 It all sounds the same at this speed really. When it comes to single stroke fills that is.

Its just his style, its not that he cant do different variations, but those single stroke rolls from the snare to toms take incredible endurance as its across the majority of the drums and even for me, thats what I love in brutal metal

There's a top tier for everything. The top tier for whatever it is takes immense skill no matter what. If someone spends 16 hours a day playing drums, and another person spends 16 hours a day writing rap lyrics and rapping, they're both going to reach top tier skill within whatever they're doing. To be the best rapper in the world, and the best drummer in the world takes the same amount of dedication and time. Unless you're talking about something more obscure, like fencing. The best fencer in the world may not have to work as hard as 16 hours a day to become the top tier best fencer in the world because there's less people to compete against. Random thoughts.

Please point me in the direction of a rap artist that shows as much skill in his respective art as this drummer. Between the stamina, memorization, and maintaining a beat, I think players like this are objectively more talented than anyone who "rhymes" about bitches, money, gangs, partying, and drugs. You can like that genre, but it's a different culture that doesnt reward technical skill.
