I have heard many versions of Elgar’s Nimrod played by magnificent orchestras and have been brought to tears but when played by the Guard’s Band at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday it can never be bettered and I’m speechless and overwhelmed.
One of the most moving pieces ever written. This stirs something deep inside of me every time I hear it. Hearing it yesterday during Prince Philip's funeral was especially emotional. Sublimely beautiful.
I never used to be a royal fan but i watched the HRH Philip's funeral and when this was played I just realised they are humans at the end of the day and although they are more poerful than us and live different lives they work for our country and make it what it is!
This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.
This music is sublime, but it makes me sad. Why? Because today people are so shallow and selfish, and do not appreciate what they have. Old fashioned values are old because they are good ... that is why they are old. Now, people want instant gratification, they take all they have for granted and do not value the qualities of decency, honesty, manners, humility etc.
It makes me sad for different reasons. For the sadness that ordinary people had to go through all that...that those in power can't make countries work together without war...that humans for all our intelligence can't look after our planet.... And that we can't even get along with each other....even on a one to one basis often.
I attend the Cenotaph each year as a Service Veteran, we all meet up at Horse Guards then March onto Whitehall, we then wait til after the Wreaths are laid, then we start the March Past, Nimrod The Hunter always gets us each time. TO ALL THOSE WHO FELL, WERE INJURED AND WHO FOUGHT AND CAME BACK, WE WILL REMBER THEM.
As a service veteran I have always wanted to attend but never able to so my thanks goes out to you and fellow veterans who can go and pay respect to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. And the going down of the sun, we will remember them.
@@georgeskeggs9931 Bravery beyond description. First foray into nazi occupied Europe. They must all have been fully aware of the huge risks but they put themselves in harm’s way without hesitation. Our country can never repay that huge debt but you must be so intensely proud
This always makes me cry, because I remember my relatives who gave their lives in WW1 & 2, along with the other brave fallen I shall never forget them.
Elgar the most poignant of all music that gives this sceptred isle it's amazing significance ......... Music that makes you proud to be a Great Briton .....god bless Edward Elgar......
As an service man of over 8 years service this music brings back those great memories of comradeship and feeling of belonging to a very huge family during my service and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.God bless and keep safe ALL those serving and ex personell wherever they be in this big wide world of ours
Unfortunately , the libtards want to destroy everything that gives us our identity. Shame. That’s hallowed turf was laid by kings of men. It lays to die under the watch of pretenders.
@@oliverwood1062 get into 2021, the empire is long gone, dreams are not reality. Move with the times and accept Britain’s vastly diminished role in the new world order!
It's played at the poppy wreath laying in our country every year during remembrance also, the crowd becomes completely silent as the band plays, it's quite a haunting piece of music.
As a veteran this always bring a tear and lump to my throat, think of all those fallen that gave the ultimate I will never forget even more poignant now that we have lost our Queen RIP you done you duty to God and country we thank you
Right the fallen of a murderous imperial has been!!! Many nations around the globe to date ar suffering immensely for the deeds of your fallen criminals!! 🖕
Just tears, streaming down my cheeks, we will never know truly the sacrifice they laid down for us to defend our country (continent), truly humbled, and this beautiful song says it all and makes me feel it with true feeling.
Had to conduct this with PCB and PMW Choir. My Wife asked if I could conduct without grizzling. (Crying). Yes, and we achieved £5240. For Help For Heroes!... Still awaiting thanks from H4H...
All said and done...Britain is such a good example of the Modern State, preserving the good from the past and evolving with the times and the future before them...they reflect on their past and so they have their future...
I am truly proud and grateful for all our brothers and sisters who gave there all for our freedom , I also think we should remember all that suffered on all sides . Lest we forget
I share and fully endorse your gratitude for the sacrifices of all who fought for freedom. We cannot ever repay what they gave us. Let’s not get carried away with the suffering on all sides; let’s remember our people died because a dastardly regime sought to enslave Europe and behaved with unspeakable cruelty so I shed no tears for them
Fully agree. My Dad always said Her Majesty’s Royal Marines band was the best & he was absolutely right. This was his favourite classical piece. He passed on armistice day 2013- & as a proud ex serviceman we had it played in all its glory at his funeral. I’m sure he would have approved!
My poor grandad who went through hell and back in ww1, and my pop, who tried to do his bit in Korea, would both be heartbroken to see the depths to which our country has sunk. Such a shame to think we'll be under Muslim Sharia law inside 30 years!! Thank god I'll be dead too by then.
I am teenager and I completely agree with you! Thank you for what your father and grand father did for me and the rest of the country! I respect it a lot.. I am disgusted In the way the country has gone myself.. not just our own culture and heritage, which has been completely discarded of.. our industry too.. IT IS DISGUSTING.. We have become too tolerant and it actually hurts me.
Lest shall we forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice at selfestly giving up their freedom,so that the living of today's generation can live on in peace and at the going down of the Sun,& in the morning - We will remember them - we will remember them ✝️
So poignant, everytime I hear this piece it makes me so grateful for the sacrifice our armed forces gave me to live my life free. God bless you George,(mac), Mc Robbie, my grandfather, called up 1939 demobbed 1945. Died 1980.
could any one, please, tell me what the soldier shouts at the begining of the video ? I happen not to understand it ... best wishes from Greenland. Eternal Life & Glory to Nimrod The Hunter and the Royal Marines!!
My birthday is 11th November and Remembrance Sunday has always been an instrinsic part of my life. A few years ago my husband treat me to birthday break in London. We were able to attend the Cenetaph ceremony on a night but cold day. As we stood listening to Nimrod a lone golden leaf fluttered past my face to the ground symbolic of a fallen much loved serviceman. That leaf and the beautiful haunting music brought tears to my eyes.
National Anthems should be a call to the focus of our patriotism. Elgar's "Enigma", while quite moving, is a call to remembrance of defeat and loss. "God Save the Queen" is a rousing call to remember This Sceptered Isle, its glorious history, and the Crown that has surmounted it, and was for a time, rejected, then surmounted it again.
A Haunting Piece Of Music Thats So Fitting For The Men And Women Who Died And Suffered In The Aweful Cruel And Barbaric Throes Of War.....Oh God I Hope We Dont Ever Have To Hear Music Again Thats Fitting For This Barbarity
Long may we endure so the World can see our nature We stand and we sacrifice Always shall we fight the good Fight Behold foe the Warriors of Brittania' advance to lay our wrath upin thee. And though the ground run red with the life blood of our Finest generation it shall do nothing but nourish those that dollow us ...... England forever England.
This piece of music moved my very soul and makes me so proud to be British. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. A truly awe inspiring piece of music. Elgars Nimrod.
Granville Bentley And I'd rather sing an anthem written of whom have died for us, than to our Queen or King.. I'm not anti royalist, I just believe that an anthem should be a tribute to loss and sacrifice. It wouldn't be disrespectful in my opinion, rather it would demonstrate our great respect and gratitude for their sacrifice
As a child j well remember my late fathers cat Nimrod he was a excellent hunter, 😛Beautiful music rendition. Congratulations from Aotearoa New Zealand 🇳🇿👏
The great men and women of Great Britain's services . A time to remember... to thank . To remember a once great nation.. lets not lose it please.. ❤🏴🇬🇧
