Always good to first decide what you value the most :) For me it was space and acceptable food (be really careful on this, because it can really blow your budget if you have to keep ordering deliver). All the best!
Hi! I booked my 21-day quarantine at Nina Hotel Island South after seeing your videos! Will be going there in May, but I've booked the city view for now - I hope I won't regret this!
Many people actually prefer City View to see a bit more “life” outside the window. And the higher city view rooms get a bit more sunshine than Hill View. Hope all goes well!
Tried to Book Nina Hotel, they don't allow cancellation without penalty. So although it looks nicer and is more spacious than the other hotel I booked. I cannot book Nina because I am not sure what is going to happen with quarantine measures in the next several months.
Matt thanks for this video, which really helped me to decide should I choose this hotel or not, it's a resounding YES for me. Welcome back to HK, i hope you stay safe and healthy, you are in one of the safest places in the world with some of the lowest to zero local cases.
Thank you for the fab and very informative videos. I'm considering going to Hong Kong later this year but was concerned with regards to the process of getting there and 21days quarantining period. Your video's has shown me its not as bad or as complicated as I thought the process would be. Will definitely consider the hotel you stayed at as an option. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your video and the very useful info. BTW, I really like your rice cooker. May I know the brand and where did you get it in HK? Thanks
Glad to be of help. And enjoy the greenery and peace!! I kind of miss it 😂 Also, message me a little closer to when you are going to be checking in and I'll add you to the inmates' WhatsApp group
Thanks Matt for sharing. I wish I could watch this video before my quarantine at Nina Hotel South Island in May for 21days. I strongly agree what you mentioned. Nina hotel staffs and GM Cissy will help us change our quarantine to Staycation 😂😂😂.
Us former inmates of Nina Hotel are a happy bunch 😉 And thanks - being in quarantine one can still dress up (especially when you start running out of clean casual clothes to wear LOL)
Thanks for this excellent video! Such a positive attitude for 21 days that makes me feel cheer-up! I m now on Day 3 at Indigo, as I could not get a room at Nina. Nice to compare here and there! I will choose Nina for my next QT..? (Hope no more quarantine!)
I also hope for reduced/no quarantine, but I expect that will be the case at least till the end of the year. And I'm very happy to help cheer up your time in quarantine. I actually made another video on some practical tips for quarantine (not Nina Hotel specific), which I think might also be helpful for you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5oIxiWYJ5u4.html
Great video! Informative and helpful! I couldn’t find dates otherwise was my first choice! Staying at Dorsett MK which is smaller in comparison and older. Decent
That's a shame, although I think Dorsett MK looks pretty decent. Space was the main thing for me - older rooms don't bother me - in fact, I think it's sometimes better and more homely. Hope it goes well for you :)
So disappointed everday full book How long u book yr room before check in? U book hotel from agent or nina directly?, I want same as u standard hill view room, how much you stay 21 days include meals? Thank you 😊
I booked about 6 weeks before I was to stay - but Nina has become a LOT more popular these days thanks to great customer satisfaction and value. The current price, I believe is HK$870/night for Hill View - this includes meals. I would always recommend booking directly so you are clear what you are getting and any terms & conditions. See my video description as well for a special offer.
Glad to have stumbled across this video - very helpful in making a choice. Just a question though , trust you had no wi-fi / internet issues throughout your stay ? my quarantine will be treated as WFH so..
No problems at all except one day when the hotel changed name and then they re configured the network. That said, if you have critical matters you should always make sure you have mobile internet as a backup just in case the network goes down or is suddenly particularly congested when you're on a call etc (since all networks will have downtime every so often)'
Booked! thank you for this excellent video.. eased my mind somewhat. Though I've gone city view room... I live on lamma island so I feel like I get plenty of green, and hoping there will be people-watching opportunities to pass the time :)
That's fair. If you're lucky with the City View Room you might get a glimpse of Ocean Park - if you booked direct, then definitely email them and request. When are you gonna be starting your quarantine?
@@XennialTraveller Not until July 23rd... Yes I've just emailed them to request one of the higher floors! Is the yoga mat and resistance band still on offer? ;)
Hi Matt, enjoyed your informative video, thank you. I’m quarantining at Nina South Island in 2 weeks’ time as a solo traveler. Would you advise going for the twin room or the double room for more free floor space?
That's purely a personal preference. I had plenty enough of floor space with the King Bed (which is actually 2 twin beds properly joined together), but if you want even more floor space then you can probably configure more with 2 twins.
Hey Matt, great video! I am going to be quarantining in Hong Kong mid June and I am very interested in the portable cooker you have. I've seen some reviews where they mentioned it takes a long time to heat food up. Do you think that's the case personally? I might get one for my 21 day quarantine in 2 weeks!
Nah - it's super fast. Like you can hear the water at the bottom starting to heat (like in a kettle) within like seconds. Those reviews must be using fully cold water and filling the entire pot (in winter?) - a completely unrealistic use of the pot. If you needed to do that then just boil the kettle! For heating meals, easily done 5 mins (maybe 10 if fridge cold). I even crisped up chicken skin, toasted sourdough bread (the pan leaves nice grill marks). After using it for 4 weeks, I still think it's the perfect portable cooker and I have not wished I got any other model. A small steamer trivet might be a handy addition to steam bowls of rice, etc.
@@XennialTraveller That's great to hear. Im quarantining in HK but then will go to Canada for uni. Do you think I can use the cooker in res (with an adaptor but diff Watt)
Hi, I just checked in Nina Hotel for my 7 day quarantine. You mentioned the issue of plastic lunch boxes creating a lot of rubbish. I am glad to tell you that the hotel has changed to degradable paper container. Your comments do matter ☺️
🙌 for sure the hotel is listening to feedback! I'm here as well for Round 2 (14 days this time)! If you want to be in the inmates WhatsApp group message me your number on Instagram @matthewseow
You can clean plastic containers with dishwashing soap. You have to live with greasy, roaches inviting dirty paper food containers in the rooo for 21 days is extremely unsanitary.
Hi is the rooms lighting good in your opinion? As not keen in dark rooms if that makes sense so was wondering. Do you know of any hotels that has windows? Nina Hotel does seem ok. Thank you.
The rooms aren't the brightest - the lighting (at night) tends to be on the darker side, which is something most hotels are lit. If you mean windows that open then you're best off checking the HK Quarantine Support Facebook group.
Many thanks for your video. On their website, they indicate that the bed is a "convertible king size bed", does it mean that the bed can be convertible into a sofa to allow more space? Regarding the cooker, did you bring it to the hotel before leaving Hong Kong or were you able to order it once you were in quarantine? Also, were you able to order some food from outside restaurants in this location? Thanks.
Standard room the bed is not convertible to sofa - I think they mean the 'king' is two beds strapped together, not a real king. If you want more floor space then take a twin and you can put one of them on its side against the wall. Cooker I brought with me, but I know people who ordered it or had friends bring it no problem. I didn't actually order out but plenty of other guests did (decent enough selection in the delivery area) - they always bring stuff up to your room minutes after it arrives.
Yup. All allowed, even Taobao deliveries. Deliveries are dropped off at the hotel’s desk and will be delivered (very quickly) by the hotel staff. No additional charge
Nice video. I have already booked Nina so too late for the gift. BTW It's not just HK gov that doesn't allow anything out of the rooms. I found same in Australia - it really upset me that items that were put in my room that I could not use (eg whole litre of milk for coffee) had to be thrown away.
Ah, I understand things not leaving the room during quarantine, but does Australia even ban the recycling of waste after someone has finished quarantine? In any case, I think regardless of what other countries are doing - I still think in principle it's silly not to be able to recycle waste from someone after they have finished quarantine.
@@XennialTraveller Fortunately all the containers there were non plastic and came in large paper bags. We had to put them out in the trash every day and I believe they were burned (medical waste?). We also were provided with crockery and cutlery which is a great idea so no waste there. That's one of the reasons I booked the Nina. So much more civilised! Our 'residents' group in Australia shared plating up ideas haha. I think there were a few Masterchef hopefuls in my group. I agree it's silly but I guess both countries are super cautious and don't want any possibility of any future infection coming back at them, especially with a few cases of proven "in hotel" transmission. Enjoy your freedom!!
@@juditaylor5418 Yeah, I get it - and glad that they're at least using waste that is less harmful when disposed of. Plastic, unfortunately is the absolute worst - even recycling is a bit of a myth in most cases since much of it doesn't get recycled at all and the little that does only really gets turned into low grade plastics (which then can't be recycled). Hope your stay at Nina goes well! :D Roughly when do you check-in?
I had the standard Hill View room because I really wanted to enjoy the peaceful green hills. I’m also super sensitive to noise. The higher up city view rooms should be quiet enough but I didn’t want to take any chances since it’s quite loud at road level on that side.
However much my office in HKG needs me, I can not think of anything more horrific than being kept 'prisoner' for 21 days in a hotel room with no fresh air. These rules are simply ridiculous, especially for double vaccinated. Interesting though the HKG government feel is it sufficiently safe for HKG residents to simply walk into most of Europe with zero quarantine. Its simply madness
I think it's gov regulation to serve all meals in plastic during quarantine as they treat you like you're radioactive during the 21 days, which is such a pity!
It is very unfortunate indeed. But I think this is also symptomatic of Hong Kong's obsession of single use plastic. Even outside of quarantine the amount of single use plastic and styrofoam used by Hong Kongers in daily life is astounding.
Handwash. My friends brought me a pail from my flat. But otherwise you can wash in the sink or bathtub. See my quarantine tips video for more practical tips for washing (and drying) clothes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5oIxiWYJ5u4.html
I hear you. Unfortunately I think that will only be possible between certain countries in a “travel bubble” since Covid has such a long incubation period and the vaccines done 100% stop you getting the virus. I think it’s gonna be a long time unfortunately. Hopefully 7-14 days quarantine is more manageable.
