Make sure some of the fun and goofy side of Trent (hahaha!) is allowed to be displayed by including "Get Down, Make Love" from the Sin EP (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sp_uMrVpgoU.html) and compare it to the original... The basic groove you are talking about isn’t typical for them, it’s the emotion in the unresolved tones, the “noise” behind the groove, and the deep lyrics that really make Trent Reznor’s compositions so brilliant. There are so many layers to the sound to evoke emotion from just the sound. Listen to the dissonance under the club groove in this song. The music highlights the story of the lyrics .The club groove is the “staying in line” but the dissonance behind it is the angst created by doing that, and the lyrics support that conflict.

Reznor has also been working on movie scores for over a decade, with Atticus Ross I think, to great success/acclaim. 'The Social Network' and 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' are the first that come to mind, and there are more that I can't recall. Edit: And if you think this has a club feel, Reznor has many full EPs of remixes of his songs. Many styles, lots of dance/club sounds. His albums are also sub-titled 'halos,' so his first album was 'halo 1,' 5th album 'halo 5,' and on. I think it's almost 30 halos, I had most at one point, except a couple of the hardest to obtain. Been about 7 years since I lost my cd collection in a flood, so I might be off on the #, but tons of remixes.

@MartinAlvito1
@MartinAlvito1 2 года назад
Disagree. Reznor doesn't do 'just' radio hits, in the sense that Depeche Mode never did either. This song is the sort of prog-influenced thing (transitions) with a beat that is going to capture Ryan's attention. Is it Reznor's best? No. Should this be dismissed as a radio hit when radio was never friendly to Reznor? No.
@42Mrgreenman
@42Mrgreenman 2 года назад
@@MartinAlvito1 I agree with both of you in a sense, you could take The Hand That Feeds as a "Club" or "Radio" hit...but when you put it in the context of the whole album it changes the grove as they were pointing out, the first half of the album hits hard with a feeling of frustration and anger then transitions to an almost psychedelic floating feeling with Beside You in Time, Right Where it Belongs, ect. like waking from a nightmare into a dream but still trying to find truth and reality...Trent is a weird dude, but so am I, so I like to dig deeper into the psychology...I may be way off from what he intended, but the experience of the album definitely hits different than just the single...

I love this song. The lyrics are so strong. I live by this principle. Ex military recon operator, I know what it takes and how to build a team from the bottom up. You are 1 team and excel to be the best you can be. But everyone is equal, no matter what rank, job, skin color, background whatever. And also in civilian society a good team leader takes care of his crew. I live by it. It's who I am. But with civilians, it's doesn't work like that. I've experienced some real poor teamleaders and supervisors that think they are better then others cause they got some collage degree. I was a teamleader for 2 years. On very busy days, my team went on a lunch break first, I'm last if there's time or I would even skip it. I'm not more important then my team. They come first, I'm last as leader. I put them first always and I'm second. Take care of your guys and you get respected. So will I bite the hand that feeds me? Just how deep do you believe? Will you bite the hand that feeds? Will you chew until it bleeds? Can you get up off your knees? Are you brave enough to see? Do you wanna change it? I believe you have to speak up if there's stuff wrong in an organisation. Speak up for others that can't. Are you afraid of speaking up if there's something wrong so will you bite the hand that feeds you. Are you sticking with your principles even if it will get you into trouble? I will for sure cause it's who I am.

Nice comment, well put. I always felt it was socio political. Like, too many fking rich folk saying, "Just keep working, get your paycheck, pay your bills, longer hours, no insurance, just keep working, it will get better, you'll sleep when your dead, Heaven awaits",so on.

@@EssEll9791 Thank you sir. To me this song is about the basics of a hierarchy. Will you speak up to management? Do you stand up for your principles and friends who are maybe scared to do it themselves? I will because of who I am. I can't help myself. Getting into trouble because of it. Yes. Multiple times. This is about showing true leadership. You build a team from the ground up. This is my way of life and to do it.
@EssEll9791
@EssEll9791 2 года назад
@@Mart687 I see the truth in it. Perhaps the sentiment orbits the same concept. What we feel we're allowed to question. The thought has crossed my mind that maybe I hold the keys to my own jail and maybe I'm not brave enough to challenge it. Macrocosm and microcosm, I suppose. No military experience here but I know a thing or two about team building. Worked retail for 14 years, pre-pandemic and let's just say you learn to motivate and uplift people or let them flounder and sink and drag the rest of the crew on shift. Maybe beyond that shift if weight isn't being pulled or duties are neglected. Yelling and screaming is what a bad manager does. Too many bad managers. No team building, just team berating. Hells bells. Not exactly a lead by example policy.

AMAZING live show and I will FOREVER be grateful that I got to see them live. Fun Fact: This song is actually a jab at George W. Bush for going to war with Iraq: "What if this whole crusade's a charade? And behind it all there's a price to be paid for the blood on which we dine? Justified in the name of the holy and the divine." Another Fun fact: Nine Inch Nails were due to play this song at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards, but dropped out when MTV wouldn't let them use an image of George W. Bush in the performance. They were eventually replaced by Foo Fighters.

Yes, what Michael Lockyer said. The mainstream sounding groove of this song was exactly the point of the lyrics. I feel like Trent was writing it for himself or maybe for other artists....going, "Listen, I can write this club groove a hundred times and have a hundred hits...listen to this shit...its exactly what sells...but it's easy and it's not really me achieving something meaningful or different than anything else. Which leaves me empty. This groove is a hand that can feed me. Can I bite that hand?" For the answer listen to the rest of the album. Dude knows how to write a song that sells. Rarely has he.

It's a cover but...NIN - Dead Souls. It's on "The Crow" soundtrack, which is loaded with great songs and one of NIN best.

Trent Reznor wrote this song to take another stab at President Bush and the Iraq War. You'll find in the lyrics: What if this whole crusade's a charade? And behind it all there's a price to be paid for the blood on which we dine? Justified in the name of the holy and the divine.

Head Like a Hole, Only, Hurt, The Perfect Drug, March of the Pigs, Terrible Lie, Every Day is Exactly the Same, Capital G, Down In It, Wish, Something I can Never Have, We're In This Together. Those are my recommended songs from NIN.

This has been on patreon for a while, its time to get back to NIN, I would recommend "LAST" or "REPTILE" for the next reaction. These first two picks were not the best introduction

I'd definitely go for 'Sunspots'; I don't know why but I think you'd love it. Also, I think you'd be impressed if you compared studio versions with live versions, eg. Came Back Haunted studio vs Tension live version.

The Fragile is Nine Inch Nails album masterpiece. Almost all the songs are gold but the best are The Big Come Down, Into the Void, The Wretched, and Where is Everybody. If you want to do a famous song March of the Pigs or Closer.

I really got into NIN about 5-6 years ago. I have all their records and am having a great time exploring their history. Their EP "Add Violence" is a favorite of mine. "Less Than" is superb. Makes you want to work out for 2 hours then jump in a convertible muscle car and drive 100mph while blaring NIN at a dangerously high volume. Great video, mates!

The Kinks, and Van Halen covered it. This is my favourite NIN record with The Downward Spiral. It's an absolutely perfect album from start to finish. Got to se em supporting it in Barcelona back in the day... and it was an absolutely perfect show as well. NIN all the fkn way dude!

I have never heard Reznor talk about this song, but I always thought the song was intentionally a juxtaposition, the lyrics are deep and basically talking about whether or not it's worth it to sell out versus keep your artistic creativity, and this is like the most catchy, almost pop, music he's ever made. I believe that he meant the song to be ironic.

I'd recommend "The Wretched", "Just Like You Imagined", "All The Love In The World", "Every Day Is Exactly The Same", "Only", "Discipline", "Copy Of A", "Came Back Haunted", "Less Than", and last but certainly not least, "The Background World" which I think I'd say is Trent's masterpiece.

NIN is one of those bands that you really can't just pick up a track here and there out of order, and expect to get the artistic expression, and the context of it all. I know you guys have a channel to run, but checking out the NIN discography in order is incredibly important to understanding and feeling the vibe. I would LOVE to make some recommendations for you guys, I've been a fan since about 1991-1992, and have listened to NIN probably more than any other band in existence. But I am sure a lot of that would get lost in (vegas) the comments. But here goes, chronologically: 1- Head Like A Hole 2 - Sin 3 - Wish 4 - Heresy 5 - March of the Pigs 6 - Ruiner 7 - Becoming 8 - Discipline 9 - Echoplex 10 - Why do you get all the love in the world 11 - Sunspots 12 - Copy of A to name twelve.

I think it's funny that there are two big bands out there that probably would not exist if not for Nine Inch Nails. A Perfect Circle and Filter. Both Billy Howerdel of APC and Richard Patrick of Filter were the techs of Trent Reznor at some point. Billy tasted what it's like to perform and sing live in a big band while working for NiN on a few songs while touring and if it weren't for his experience with the group, he may have never been hired to work for Adam Jones in Tool where he met Maynard. His main guitar was also a gift to him from Trent after their tour was over. Richard of Filter also received a guitar from Trent after a tour and the one that was given to him was used to write the riff for "Hey Man, Nice Shot", which catapulted the band to commercial success.

Fellas, you absolutely must do Wish if you want to do a reaction to a quintessential Nine Inch Nails song. The first two you've done, while decent songs, are singles, pop songs. Wish is an industrial anthem from 1992, their breakout moment in my opinion.

This was an unexpected pleasant surprise. This song brings back memories at the time when it was released. But just one thing though, please react to more songs from the industrial music scene; bands from the scene like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.

I think something like “everyday is exactly the same” “we’re in this together” or “into the void” would be more up your alley. Especially “into the void” imho it’s insanely underrated and has one the most interesting progressions in Trent’s catalogue. It’s a song that shouldn’t work but somehow does and I keep coming back to it

So many more complex and amazing songs beyond the couple radio grabs you’ve listened to so far… amazing musicians (Trent 99%) that I completely respect! Right Where it Belongs, The Perfect Drug, March of the Pigs (live)… the entire Downward Spiral or Fragile Albums… so much to pick from with original and aggressive arrangements 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
