Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out the video. Some of you pointed out that the fan shield doesn’t seem to actually work. After doing some extensive testing, I was unfortunately wrong on that point. In the future, I will be more thorough. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out!
Boomerangs make for interesting fusions. The lizard tails stretch out making the boomerang do damage over a large area. Flame emitters on a boomerang can light up an entire group of enemies easily.
I don't use it often but a great fusion is a zonai cannon fused with a spear. Hold right bumper to throw, and it actually goes into an over the shoulder firing mode, essentially giving you an RPG launcher. Shield plus cannon is nice too, but the spear combo is easier to aim.
Maybe in shrines that allow you to use your equipment but there are shrines that take away your equipment and force you to use what is available in the shrines
rocket arrows are used by constructs sometimes, do +10, and appear to make the arrow go farther than attaching a keese/aerocuda/zonai wing because it flies perfectly straight up until the moment it despawns
About Gibdo Bones: They are one of the only items in TotK you can get large amounts of without glitches. During Riju’s questline, there is a portion where you have to defend Kara Kara Bazaar by using Riju’s ability to take out a Gibdo hive. If you wait for Riju’s ability to charge, you can kill any Gibdo (and sometimes multiple at once) with only 1 arrow (you don’t even have to fuse anything to it.) Gibdos will always drop one bone. What you want to do is *WAIT BEFORE SHOOTING THE HIVE*. Get a bunch to follow you during the Kara Kara defense mission, shoot an arrow in the middle of them, then just collect all the bones and repeat. You get infinite arrows for this mission so just stock up on Bows. I got about 200 Gibdo bones from that mission and I still haven’t run out.
I noticed this when I got to that part and sat there for an hour playing COD zombies. Get them to follow you in a group and then use whatshernames ability when it ls recharged. Just gotta make sure to bring a good amount of arrows. (The Lionel coliseum nets you a ton each time you run it.
Better idea: No Equipment Run. In BotW this was trivial thanks to remote bombs, but here the best we’ve got is Earthwake. Still, it would be nice to see a run with only Earthwake, Zonai Devices and thrown items.
It’s actually really difficult to get it directly above you, and it spawns the arrow out of ultrahand range a lot of times. But you can kind of make it work sometimes with recall
@@LionsShareYT I just shoot it as far upwards as possible then step forward slightly and ascend, it's a nice way to get a lot of bullet time for gleeoks, lynels, gloom hands, etc
Aesthetical fun fact : Lizal boomerangs blade-type fusions are attached to the handle and looks like actual swords unlike other boomerang fusions. Fuse one with, say, a silver lynel horn or a blue lizalfos horn and you get yourself a normal katana with a boomerang effect
Spring Shield is an excellent defensive shield. If you shield bash with it or the enemy hits you while you block they go flying across the map it's amazing
Fuse a gibdo bone to the eightfold blade (1-handed) you can use it for extra-powerful sneakstrikes. And b/c you can drop and fuse items without alerting enemies, you can just keep doing this to clear out a camp of monsters.
@@Bulbmin1 Depends on how often you sneakstrike, balanced with how much you farm silver lynels. But even a 30-odd damage fuse item will let you sneakstrike MOST things. A silver boss bokoblin horn on an eightfold blade let me NEARLY 1HKO sneakstrike a silver boss bokoblin, only needed an extra smack after that.
⭐️ I fused a molduga jaw to an eightfold blade and I can one hit silver moblins... I haven't tried any of the other silver mobs yet, but the good part is it can be repaired by the octorocks...
@@DaOrr Yeah but hinox/stalnox only do so after about the 50% hp mark or so. Flux constructs don't strictly cover it, and you could shoot it point-blank with a x5 bow after you get it to scatter.
Something I found interesting was the armor shard (from armored bokoblins or lynels) fused to shield. It adds damage, but the real interesting thing is that it adds a gauranteed recoil effect without needing to overmatch the enemy's attack power.
So, I had a similar item originally using a rock shield, but I wasn’t seeing a difference between the knock back from a regular shield and a rock shield. Maybe I needed to try it on stronger enemies? 🤔
@@LionsShareYT it is unique to the armor shard as far as I know. A 2 defense shield with armor shard can make enemies of any attack power recoil, though the shield itself might not survive
My favorite fusion in the game is a luminous talus heart attached to any shield. It both lets you mine ore by shield bashing, and also passively lights up the area immediately around you whenever you're in the dark. It's insanely useful for Depths exploration!
I discovered that equipping a weapon with a fire lizalfo horn fused to it will 1. Act like a warm piece of clothing, protecting link from cold environments, and 2. Passively melt any ice you are standing near. This is very useful for areas with a lot of meltable ice, as it requires no resources to melt it.
Fusing dragon spikes on arrows is great for big aoe elemental damage. They’re much easier to stock up on then the other dragon pieces, and aren’t as precious are the rare gems.
Attaching a ruby/sapphire/topaz to a shield can give you a lvl 1 resistance to cold/heat and when parried can create an aoe explosion of that elemental archetype.
It's not technically resistance, it actually changes the ambient temperature. So ruby shields are good for melting nearby ice, and that was really handy for the wind temple in spots. The only downside is in areas where you'd need lv2 resistance, it overpowers a ruby/sapphire's ambient temperature shifting, and topazes don't give shock resistance which would be really cool. They also create that AOE explosion when your block is struck by an enemy, and that AOE doesn't harm you.
If you don't want to use gems for fusion (because you're like me and too busy mining and selling them out of habit), you can use elemental Like Like Stones as a cheap alternative. Said stones are also kinda shit when it comes to elixir crafting. But they do make nice elemental hammers when fused to cause elemental effects in the environment.
Combining Shields with either the sled or cart has really breathed new life into shield surfing. Now every time I'm on any sort of incline, I can cross a surprising amount of distance.
I can’t take credit for all of these, but I just think it’s so amazing how much thought and care went into the design of this game. You can tell Nintendo really looked at what people liked to do in Breath of the Wild and improved on what they didn’t.
I got so lucky to have so many Gibdo bones for my Gleeok tour. Also, I actively use Muddlebud often. It’s funny to see Fortress Talus throw their Bokoblins into the air.
Hoverstone arrows have further use. Shoot a second one and move it next to you and you can build a vehicle mid air. Switch between vehicle and gliding and you can cross the entire map without ever touching ground.
The gibdo bones was super helpful, I didn’t realize how much damage they did. King Gleeko kicked my ass earlier, I went back and tried gibdo arrows and they one shot each of his heads
2:20 No wonder Lizalfos Tails are so freaking rare now. I've been trying to get a Fire Tail for armor upgrades for like 5 Blood Moons now. Also, the floating platforms, man, this is one of those rare "You may not have known" videos where I actually totally did not not know most of them. Except the Balloon and shield rock ones.
I’m glad you found it valuable. For Flamebreath Lizalfos Tails, I would just go to Eldin. That’s the easiest place to find them. You can sometimes find them in Gerudo Canyon as well, but Eldin is much more consistent.
@@VexylObby I know. The problem I'm having isn't finding or killing them, it's that I've killed upwards of 50 of the damn things and not one dropped a Red Lizalfos Tail.
@@NickTheGreatAndPowerful I had the same problem ! Honestly for situations where the game asks you to grind a specific item (like armour upgrade), it’s just not fun so I use the duplication glitch (easier on 1.1 but if you already updated to 1.2 there is also a pretty easy glitch!)
The hover stone arrow is awesome, nice tip, not only a good way to recover stamina but could even be used to have the “higher ground” during fights lol
the wing shield is actually really good to know. wings are frankly kind of useless beyond the early game, so having something useful to do with them is great information, and can save on rocket use against enemies where you need bullet time but not really height. Like Lynels and Gleeoks :p
I tried to shield surf with a wing fusion on it hoping I could sky-surf but it didn't work. I thought that was useless until this video showed it gives you a little higher bounce.
wings have one nice use, If you are in the sky, say, from a skyview tower launch, you can pull one out and itll spawn just below you. With a bit of practice, you cqn land on it and start gliding from anywhere. Its partucularly helpful to deal with stamina issues.
Another great video! I think I’m gonna have to try Hover Arrows first! I personally love fusing bomb barrels and rockets to spears, as throwing them at enemies is SOOO satisfying!
@@LionsShareYT You should defininitly try that out! With the Recall every weapon becomes a Boomerang. Speaking of: Boomerangs have some of the coolest interactions, when you fuse them with Wings, Lizalfostails or Zonaidevices.
I like the stick or club or any melee weapon + ice sheet, you can use the ice sheet you got to make more ice sheets to repeat the process. the weapon will create gusts of wind, as well as ice damage- so you can freeze and blow away your enemies with a single weapon- it is fragile breaking after a few hits and will melt quickly so its extremely situational. But I still think its an excellent weapon.
if you want a longer lasting alternative, fuse a frost horn to a rito weapon. Naydra's horn, frost gleeok horns, ice keese wings, and ice lizalfos horns give the ice property and keep the wi d effect from the rito blades. Its nice to see enemies get flung into the water in one fell swoop.
Fusing a dazzlefruit to a weapon one-shots skeleton enemies, which is very handy at night. If you fuse it to a Korok weapon, it won't immediately waste your dazzlefruit either.
A korok frond and any week melee weapon, it seems like a crappy usles fuse, however, this combo, send monster Flying sky high and fall really fast to the ground, so they can die of fall damage, also it is a los of fun to watch this.
I thought all of these were fairly intuitive and discovered all of these on my own…. except the last one. I never thought to fuse a hover stone to an arrow!
It's one of those massively freeform mechanics that can result in some really amazingly useful combinations in some instances. but the big caveat of it is that if you aren't particularly creative or experimental, and just use enemy horns to do big damage, it can feel kind of frustrating for not using the system to it's full potential.
The zonai spring box fused with a shield has a similar effect to the wing shield but the spring bounces you up much higher when you shield surf. Its really great for activating bullet time or if you need to make a quick escape
Very interesting list. The Gibdo bone arrows are the only thing I did before watching this vid. I use them to effectively deal with stone taluses that has their weak point at their backs which is quite hard or annoying to attack with a melee weapon.
For those I just use recall on the rocks it throws st me, after it's stunned spears work pretty well to get big damage on the weak spot. Fusing longer things to the end of the spear can help, but it's normal range should work fine
@@Xelief Spears are long enough that you can hit the back weak spots on the ground too... you just gotta walk around it first, and move when it falls over.
Best fused weapons i always have are the magic staff/rod/scepter. The staff is a spear charge, scepter is 2 handed charge, rod is 1 handed charge. Rod is best. I fuse them with sapphire/ruby/topaz/opal and they summon 3 bolts of ice/fire/lightning/water. Another 2 less useful but fun fuses are korok frond stick and a beehive. Korok stick generates wind, and the beehive summons bees to attack enemies.
I knew about sapphire/ruby/topaz for ice/fire/lightning but I had never tried opal to make water. I also didn't know about the beehive summoning bees. I'm going to have to try that one.
@@sharmilakrishnakumar2499 I saw each trailer as they came out so I'm sure I saw what you're talking about but I didn't remember it. I specifically wasn't analyzing or rewatching the trailers as much as I usually might before playing TotK so that I could sort of watch the trailers but still be surprised during the game.
Interesting. Rocket shields definitely work to propel you further, but they burn out super quickly. I’ll have to do some more testing with the fan shield.
@@LionsShareYT It may not propel you forward, but please test also to see if it slows down the rate of descent while gliding. While you don't fly faster, you fall down at a much lower rate so the net distance covered during flight may be significant to think about. I just have this thought so I have not tested it myself yet.
I did think of this as well. I’ll have to look into it. Thankfully, I think the minimap will be helpful for determining both the glide speed and the rate of descent.
I haven't seen a single cave with ore that doesn't also happen to have rocks for rock hammers strewn about the place. It's like they had to invent a workaround for the durability system.
Didn’t even mention fusing elemental keese wings/lizalfo horns on Eightfold Longblades. The wind slash turns into an elemental wind slash of the same type as well. Pretty anime if you ask me
I’m about to pin a comment about the fan shield because I was unfortunately wrong. :/ I thought there was a boost, but after doing testing and actually calculating rates, it doesn’t seem that there is. The hover stone arrow is definitely amazing, though.
Fusing rubies, sapphires, or elemental like like stones to weapons makes them do elemental damage. But more than that fusing them to either weapons or shields then equipping them works like the elemental weaapons in Breath- a ruby shield will keep you warm in cold weather, a sapphire one keeps you cool in the desert. This means you wont need elemental protection armor and can wear other sets like barbarian or climbing but not succumb to the weather.
REALLY well made video which is straight to the point and has lots of things I didn't already know about the game!! Subbed :D (commenting for algorithm lol)
Whoa, this is super great to learn! Thanks for all these tips! There were times i had no more rock hammers, the rock shield is great in a pitch. Also i was so confused what everyone was talking about the wings fusing to shields to do bulletime and this makes so much more sense. Also another combination that's pretty cool is boomerang + lizalfos tails and boomerang + wings for long throws or massive range Also love the SS soundtrack in the video!
I could be wrong, but I remember seeing another video that the fan shield is just cosmetic, and doesn't actually give you more speed when gliding. Pretty sure they even had a side by side video comparison showing the speed and distance you get using it vs a normal shield. Could be another good video idea to test and confirm, since I've heard conflicting information, and a solid test would be valuable for the community. It was a great video otherwise though, the Gibdo Bone idea is really smart actually!
I did a more rigorous test after several people said the same thing. It doesn’t work, unfortunately. I pinned a comment about it. But I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
The gleeok horns have better elemental usage because it has no cooldown like other elemental materials albeit limited in range so you can attach this to a weapon like the two handed weapon/ boomerangs for constant elemental application or to a shield that can use the element when you parry regardless of when you parry the attack or not. The only downside is that you have to defeat a Gleeok in order to obtain it which can be difficult for some players.
@@LionsShareYT I think you can further do this now that Hover arrows are a thing you could shoot it up and ascend. Not sure if you waste more zonal than rocket but could work if you're low on rockets haha
Here's a good shield fuse. Dinraals spike on the hylian shield. I use this all the time for everything. It mines ore. It breaks boxes. It breaks enemie armour. And if you drop a bomb and parry you can cause an explosion that leaves you untouched. And it looks cool as f#ck!
Gibdoe bones are your bread and butter for your arrows. Always farm them in Kara Kara bazaar quest, and whenever you can I the overworld where any hives still function. I almost regret completing gerudos quest due to how valuable they are. And how rare they become later
It may not actually do anything. I’ve been doing some more testing with it, and while it appears that it might make you go faster, both my distance and my stamina usage seem to be unaffected. I’m not done testing yet, but I will pin an update once I am.
Bro if you fuse a puffshroom or dazzle fruit or the mud thing that confuse enemies to a forest deweller weapon it will stay untill the weapon breaks! Infinite dazzle and ninja smoke!
I’ve been investigating this because other people have said the same. I need to do a bit more testing before I can determine conclusively that it’s actually ineffective.
I probably should've fused way more with shields in general. I've gone through so many good weapons by mining, while I have so many really good shields and yet still find more and mark the location for the chest only to never come back. I also never really used combos like gems or puffshrooms on my shield which might've helped a lot in swarms of enemies. One thing I have found recently though is icy prime meat shield, which is amazing for shield surfing and I have a sapphire rod so I just pull out a new prime meat and freeze it whenever the shield breaks. Edit: damn and shield to claymore would've saved me so much pain. I love two handed weapons but that leads to using shields even less, and makes it harder against hoards of enemies once again.
@@LionsShareYT In my experience half the shields defense is added to a two handed weapons attack power when the shield is used as the fuse material, and for spears it’s significantly less. Dunno about one handed weapons.
I misunderstood your question for some reason. I was thinking when using your shield to attack. You were talking about fusing a shield to a weapon. I don’t know the conversion rate, but half the defense power seems reasonable.

That’s a nice tip! I don’t generally like using explosives for ores because I don’t want the gemstones to go flying, but it’s great for the thick layers of sediment.
Another great situational fusion for shields are bombs/ bomb flowers, ice fruit/ ice chuchu, fire fruit/ fire chuchu and explosive barrels. None of them will damage Link when activated, either through blocking an attack or shield jumping, and the exploding ones will launch you into the air
I discovered the rock shield bash for mining. My only complaint compared to using a rock hammer is I feel like the shield loses durability faster. Also you can’t throw a rock shield, while throwing a rock hammer into a wall of breakable rock can be a good substitute for bombs.
honestly I don't know why you can't just parry using 2 handed weapons regardless of a fusing a shield. You can parry using weapons normally. Would be neat. maybe OP, but they could make it so that it uses durability.
Gibdo bone arrows is how I beat the final boss! I got the multishot bow from the silver lynal you encounter on the way, hit bullet time after Ganondorf did the attack that caused an updraft, and one cycled the first phase with a single bullet time
Element Gemstones on shields can be really strong. I tend to stick with sapphire because ice is just too useful. Whenever the shield is struck it emits an elemental aoe based on your gem of choice. I think it also triggers on a parry. Based on this video, I would assume shield bashing can also trigger this effect, but I haven't tested!
gems on shields also affect your temperature. it can let you get away with only a single weather protection armor piece or a single element protection food (except in the super hot spots like caves on death mountain)
Shield bashing does not trigger the effects of gems but you can attach a Gleeok horn to a shield to make a pretty wicked elemental weapon that you can also block attacks with.
If a game like this came out in the era of a game like ocarina of time where there was no internet to look up all this cool shit we would literally never reach the full potential of playing these games.
I mean, people were still discovering things about Breath of the Wild a few months ago. It’s gonna be at least like a decade before we’ve fully unearthed everything this game has to offer.
