OMIGOD! This is one of the most amazing (and surprising) videos that I've seen in a long time. I flat out didn't expect this when I decided to react to it. AMAZING listen. Stop what you're doing and listen to this!
Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” RU-vid Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. Wow! So glad you found these guys. Pure gem. We cannot consider Japanese music without mentioning Ningen Isu, and cannot consider contemporary quality rock/metal without knowing them. Twenty-odd albums and over three decades in, shame the world outside Japan don't know them more. Saw these guys in 2012 in Tokyo, they are of course just immense live too! Exceptional characters also. Where else do you get a band with a late 19th century academic, a Yakuza wannabe and a Buddhist monk for members!? You are spot on, music itself is a universal language but worth checking out their lyrics, always profound. By the way hopefully this will also kickstart a journey for you to Japanese rock/metal, it's a deep and rewarding rabbit hole. Won't burden you with an enormous list here but like others before here mentioned, definitely check out Band-Maid, nothing you'll expect but will soon become a lifelong addiction. A Japanese band nobody mentions really is 'Boris', a cult band and pioneers of doom/drone metal from the 90s, still active and incredibly versatile, perhaps check their songs "Pink" and "Riot Sugar"...I know you'll love them. Sorry for the long ramble just get too passionate about Japanese music ...Rock on!🤘

They played, in perfect anonymity, for 30 years. Then one day they wrote this song. Since that day they are invited all over the world. Read the lyrics. Is it just a coincidence that this song is the one that brought them out of the shadows? Unknown, despite their 23 albums, the gods answered their prayers, and gave them a well-deserved success.

My grand daughter introduced me to this group over 30 years ago. Now I have 16 of their 20+ albums and my great grand daughter calls them 'pa-pa rock' when we listen together. I think of them as Band Maid's grandpas.

Ningen Isu (Nin-gen Ees) have been killing it since the 80's, 1987 to be exact. I'm not an expert when comes to these guys, so, i'll leave it to someone else to fill out their backstory. But, yes, check out more from them. 'Toshishun' is great track. Speaking of great, follow JK's advice and look into BAND-MAID. His recommendations are where most people start, but I'm gonna ask you to jump off into the deep end and go with a 2-for-1 live performance of 'Manners' & 'Black Hole'. This will give you some perspective on just how versatile this band is. From the groove of 'Manners' to the speed of 'Black Hole', you'll be impressed.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind not an expert on them. But from what I understand they were pretty unknown outside Japan until this music video. They had their first world tour right before Covid shut everything down. I second the Band Maid recommendation. Any official live video is fire. Maybe Onset? Onset is an instrumental. My second recommendation is 'The Warning' from Mexico. Three sisters. They started off doing covers. I recommend their cover of Enter Sandman (the original one made 7 years ago) or Back in Black they are average age of about 12 and killing it. The other option is the live performance of Evolve. That is them all grown up. Late teens early 20s. Original song. They have an album coming out in 2 weeks. They have only about 5 great original songs so far but they are still super young. They are yet to put out a full album. Not sure if the one coming is a full album or not. My third recommendation is 'The Hu' from Mongolia. Either 'Sad but True' Metallica cover or 'We are Mongol' or maybe it's 'This is Mongol'? Something like that. But they do Mongolian throat singing. Very unique. My 4th recommendation is Babymetal. 'Headbanger' live at Legend of 1997. They are the most unique group. You will either love it or hate it. They are a mix of Japanese pop and metal. Their whole gimmick is that they show you cute girls who dance and then shock you with how heavy the music is. Then they go into a poppy chorus and act cute again before shocking you again with a heavy breakdown. They have insanely good live shows. Some of the best ever. People have said they've seen Babymetal and Kiss and Babymetal is a better show.

@@Jordan-Ramses should've add LOVEBITES on the list and it's a perfect list. from what I know, the most famous rock band from Japan is OneOkRock. they had fans from every country in Europe, Idk with US, but they're pretty well known outside Japan.

Gooood Reaction! I am a fan of Japan. They have been unknown outside of Japan for over 30 years, but they are pure people with no twists and turns at all. I was at the European tour before Corona. They were thrilled like minors. It was a real shame that their small US tour was cancelled due to a pandemic. But it was a real blessing to see these songs in the 21st century. They are still in their fifties. I hope to see more of them in the years to come!　And I eagerly await their U.S. tour!

Glad to see you're enjoying their music. I found them right before the pandemic. Haven't heard a single song by them that I do not like. Couple recommendations I have would be Namahage , and the Caterpillar. Sorry there is no video for the Caterpillar that I'm aware of. Great reaction thank you.

Hey Bob, somehow this vid popped up and here I am. Glad to hear your feeling better. Not easy getting older I can attest. I won't take up much of your time. I'm a 60's/70's Rock guy. I've been searching for decades to find a band that revived my faith that Rock didn't die. And I found them. BAND-MAID hits my musical soul. From their YT channel start with DOMINATION-LIVE. They have never disappointed me in the 20 months since my fortunate and miraculous discovery of this Awesome band. If your looking for amazing Rock that dabbles in metal and punk and prog and blues and jazz, sometimes in the same song, you won't be disappointed either. They are entering their 10th year together intact. They are unique, dynamic, diverse, powerful and most of all FUN. I listen to them every day. They will be touring the US in October 2022. They have done songs for anime and esports events. They appear in the Netflix movie KATE with 2 featured songs and have a song in the HBOMAX series Peacemaker. Please enjoy this band with all. As others have mentioned they've been a band since the late 80's. 20+ albums, so you have found a hidden treasure chest full of 200+ songs. Up until 2020 they had never performed outside Japan, they managed to slip in 2 dates in Germany and 1 in London in February 2020 before everything got locked down. Some of the common songs people react to next include Namahage, The Colour out of Space, Toshishun and one of my favorite performances of theirs, At the Mountains of Madness. There are some videos of them in earlier days around as well (different drummers) but their talent is on display from the beginning. Others have mentioned BAND-MAID as a suggestion. I concur. The Japanese music scene is something else, with music that is both familiar and different at the same time. Exploring it would be well worth your time.

Great reaction and awesome band :) I love Ningen Isu! These guys seem like the coolest uncles to hang out with ever haha (I'm 38) and yes, they still tour. Actually they did three shows in Europe just before Covid hit, their first time playing abroad actually. I really hope it happens again! How about some ladies from that same generation who are looking back at 35 years of band history but are also still going strong and releasing new music with all of them pushing 60? Japan has a lot of all female rock and metal bands nowadays and the one band that started this whole trend back in the 80s is Show-Ya. Their lead singer Keiko Terada is like the Japanese Queen of Rock. I suggest you check out their live video for "Look at me!" at Naon Yaon 2021. It includes a few snippets from different songs and some info before the full song performance. Just so you don't get confused when the song fades out after a few seconds ;)

They did tour in London and somewhere in Germany before the lockdown. (there are videos of their live performance) Don't know about any future tours.

I love these guys also (Look for Ningen Isu - Namahage). I started High School in the 70's so I have loved your channel since I found it this last week. These guys finally put together a US tour and then covid hit. It's so ironic when you understand the lyrics to this song. If you like some old hard driving rock please check out LOVEBITES - Holy War live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020....it has dual lead guitar solos and is the most amazing, spectacular all female rock group you will have ever seen. They sing in English. Also, check out teen Russian sensation Diana Ankudinova's dark, mysterious, minor key cover of Elvis Pressley's Can't Help Falling in Love. It's mind blowing...She has the most unique voice in the world and a SPECTACULAR, powerful, beautiful, one of a kind lower register. They call her the Queen of Goosebumps

I've never been able to get into 70s and 80s rock, never struck a chord with me. But these guys have an element of their own cultural influence in the music (especially vocals, even aside from the language) and hit just the right amount of heavy in the riffs. When I found this song, I only looked at two more and then bought their 30 year special album. Obviously there's music from all over their career on it and I haven't found a single song I think is even just "meh", despite the wide variety of styles (and quality, what with early 80s recordings, hah). Like and love all over the album (my favorite of theirs is probably Imomushi, deliciously eerie.) Then I got their two new albums and still don't have a song that I think of skipping. It's pretty amazing and surprising to me. But I'm glad I found their music. And even more glad they get to have a breakout in their career. I'm also going to drop a few names, but you do with them what you will. Maybe just enjoy them on your own time, because I'm sure your list of suggestions is already too long to do it all. Don't know how heavy you can tolerate, so I'll keep it nice and clean, but diverse. I just want to spread good music (so if just even just a single comment reader gets something out of it, that's fine, too) Leprous - "Rewind", "Below", or "The Sky Is Red" Kaleo - "Broken Bones", or "Way Down Below" Stromae. French artist, well worth diving into his lyrics, for example on "L'enfer", "Quand C'est" or "Papaoutai" Sokoninaru. Extremely technical japanese 3-piece. Very much so not for everyone, but if it clicks, it's amazing. "Gou Ni Moyu", "Brilliant City", or "Tenohira De Odoru", for the not-so-far out there songs.

Hey Bob, I've seen the band name around RU-vid, but had never listened to them before. I'm liking it.🤘 Definitely the classic hard rock sound. Sitting here listening and trying to decide a good comparable. I'm thinking maybe Deep Purple or Rainbow. I wasn't watching the subtitles ,either, but didn't really need it to enjoy the song. Of course, how many songs are there in English that you can't understand what they're saying? lol BTW, new computer test #1-- PASS.😁

Most about them are already said. So what I wanna add is: Welcome to Japanese rock! You can be sure you get at least one solo in the song and they tend to be even better live. So do yourself a favor. Chose a live song as next one and you truly gonna see how they shine there.

Ningen Isu is pronounced G and J as it's pronounced but some people pronounce G as J. SHOW YA is a female rock band that's from the early '80s and a bit older than Ningen Isu :)

You should check out a band from Japan called "Band Maid" if you do, give Domination (live) a listen. They really shine live. (if you want to see their breathrough song, the official MV for Thrill is not a bad choice) Anyway, fun reaction and have a good one!

Ooh! So were are diving into Japanese music, are we? There is so much to talk about! _Ningen Isu_ are great, but seeing the Rush album cover on your wall immediately makes me think of _Asterism_ though. An instrumental trio that play some amazing old-school rock/metal, with almost unbelievable skill. Their latest album (Guernica+a, 2021) is very original and progressive, but my favorite song is "Dawn", from their first album (Ignition, 2018). Does anyone recomment you to BAND-MAID yet? It's all female rock band from Japan that hooked the elder music fan so hard with their variant classic rock style. If not, then try "DICE" from BAND-MAID. They will hook you up instantly.

Band-Maid is a group of five young Japanese ladies who are singlehandedly saving rock. To put them into perspective, Jimmy Page is their fan. He once said that their drummer, Akane Hirose, was the second coming of John Bonham. I would suggest the live versions of "Domination" or "Freedom". But honestly, all of their songs are great.

Japan is currently the world's capital of Rock and Metal - I assume that your reaction to Ningen Isu will attract a lot of Band-Maid and Lovebites fans, so I skip recommending them and recommend another band: Gacharic Spin. They’re good musicians, but this is hard rock, which I never really enjoyed. If I didn’t enjoy this type of music when I was in my youth, it’s unlikely I will ever like it, no matter how talented they are. Sorry
