Hey Anthony, I remember watching that documentary with Prof.TurnBull and yourself when it aired on Netflix. I especially like that part when you demonstrated how ninja would walk on top of their hands while inside buildings. And use a folded piece of paper and place it in their mouths so as to not breathe onto a sleeping enemy. Great stuff as always and love your channel.

I'm into occultism and magick. Thie isn't anything on ninja magick, or japanese magick that I can find. I already own one of your ninja books and the ritualistic part really interests me. Could you write a book focused on ninja magick? I'd buy it and I'm sure it would do well in the occult community. You'd probably get foolish fish to do a review on it if you asked him.

I will try to make a constructive criticism but undoubtedly a criticism at the end, I see that you give a particular appreciation to traditional martial arts that are detached a little from the modern conception of these, and that are not compatible at an historical level. Traditional martial arts are a set of strategies for learning this system like Kung fu shaolin, if we can see a demonstration of this, it's seems a kind of artistic discipline now if we go to the facts and talk to people who are in the monasteries studying as Shaolin warriors these know what it means to know about martial arts and ancient strategies those guys historically killed themselves with people from the Chinese empire with such to maintain their status. their have Hand-to-hand combat skills if it's a given now when these guys went to the battlefield were a set of skills and concepts that are beyond the idea of just sparring. And Bujinkan belive or not they have that mindset. And with this said I am not proposing that the Bujinkan is better or worse martial art but that it covers much more than the study of ura or omote gyaku and certainly those of us who are in the Bujinkan know that the Togakure Ryu can be "loose of papers" and that it is closer to a set of oral techniques that speak from kata to strategies to escape, but beyond that there are 8 traditional schools that have very incorporated other strategies that not only stop to a method of hand-to-hand combat or similar. It is very reductionist to say that the Bujinkan sticks one idea of hand-to-hand combat when I have been studying techniques and strategies of Takagi hanbo for more than a year 😅😅😅 on the other hand I think Sean Askew did an interesting research on Takamatsu and is a little less speculative I suggest that at least consult it at best it would serve to justify your sources more strongly.

The question is, did Takamatsu actually believe his own stories? And was this an outright fabrication created to compensate for being kicked out of Kukishin Ryu, or was it a delusional disorder from so many blows to the head? or maybe it was some kind of senility that merged his real martial arts practices in his lifetime with pop culture comic book stories from his time growing up. Maybe they fused into one in his mind. Maybe this has something to do with Kukishin Ryu not wanting anything to do with him any longer. It has been said that Takamatsu was in his 70s when he first met Hatsumi. It is a perfectly plausible scenario that Takamatsu was a confused senior citizen that believed his own stories.
@AntonyCummins
@AntonyCummins Год назад
either way, they are fabrications. But i like your idea.
@tgold8422
@tgold8422 Год назад
@@AntonyCummins right, right. It’s just that one wonders the motivation behind fabricating something like this. Especially in a culture that values tradition so much. In any event, I think it is safe to suggest that there are many viewing these Takamatsu/Hatsumi/Tanemura videos as very interesting, and worth a discussion. After all, these people have misrepresented these arts for so long, that the record needs to be set straight like you are doing. Even a glimpse into their individual personalities through the stories you have relayed, says a lot about what has been going on. Definitely interested in more videos like this.

I’m interested in that Kukishin Ryu kicking out stuff. Where can I check it?
@tgold8422
@tgold8422 4 месяца назад
I am looking for more info as well. It is a story that has been circulating for awhile, but it’s not really talked about openly because of its implications. I can say that I saw with my own eyes on the Kuki family website, to paraphrase, that they specifically stated that they want nothing to do with Takamatsu. I remember the article by one of the original Buj members from Greece, the beginning, essentially stating that he has concluded that Takamatsu made Togakure Ryu up. After being kicked out by the Kuki family, Takamatsu no longer had the authority to say he practiced “Kukishin Ryu”. So he had to adjust the name to “Kukishin DEN Ryu” to denote the fact that is is a derivative of the original tradition. But any menkyo Kaiden or Dan rank, or even soke status passed down means absolutely nothing without any proof. Furthermore, Antony has basically pointed out that Takamatsu’s history does not match real history. Either he made up the Soke list, or he deliberately obfuscated with substitute fictitious names of the real sokes, as a secret or something. Why even make a soke list at all then? Either way, the Takamatsu traditions are clearly do not have a historical continuity. Takamatsu could also have been trying to preserve his pride after being kicked out by saying that all along he had another secret master that taught him THE OLDEST, FIRST, AND ORIGINAL tradition. But he just thought it necessary to also learn Kukishin Ryu. Really? The sokes mean nothing. The menkyo means nothing. The dans/go dans whatever mean nothing. There is more than one reason Hatsumi has said that he is “zero”. It’s all a money making pyramid scheme that got out of hand. Hatsumi has also said that it’s “like a religion”. Hatsumi has likely realized all of this for a long time, but felt the need to keep up appearances to honor his teacher.

Fact: Higher number as Grandmaster does not mean longer. In truth you need to take into account how long each person was a Grandmaster. Was the 15th of one style killed by violence or disease 6 years into her term as Grandmaster and the 15th of another style Grandmaster for 17 years?

Anything Ninjutsu related is probably permanently sealed upon legal authority by the Japanese government. Not that its super effective or anything its just that since they were training at an espionage school most of the graduates probably had some relation to war crimes. I doubt given the political situation in East Asia that we will ever be allowed to actually know about how ninjutsu as a skill actually died out. Anyways I was a member of the Bujinkan and Soke Hatsumi may have cashed in in the 80's but he does teach a version of Jujitsu that is historical its just hard to say if his family style was actually passed down by a noble but its more likely that it was passed down by a Gate guard or some lowly Ronin or maybe some dude that was just taught Jujitsu in the region. We have no idea what is the story but we know that the impetus of keeping secrets in the first place is more of a business model akin to scientology but hey if you want secret info you kinda have to pay the price. Basically Ninjitsu is that Wu-tang Album nobody was allowed to listen to.
