Thank you for your kind words. I hope that you can have a conversation with a rider you know based on what you learned here to see if they believe that suspension needs to be set to them and their ability.

Thanks for making this episode free, as I get a ninja 400 for my first few track days this helps a lot. Will invest in premium to watch the rest soon!

I picked up a used Z400 for my wife to learn on, and a big plus was that it already had all the T-Rex protection bits on it. I took it to track day last fall, instead of the Street Triple, and found it to be hugely educational. It’s always fun passing bikes with more power in the corners. As you say, you are forced to learn conservation of momentum, because if the lower power output. I’m used to more power, but still find this a blast to ride hard. FWIW, I’m 6’, 195, and 12” shoe. I don’t feel cramped on the Z, but the stock muffler definitely gets in the way. I’m looking at braking and suspension upgrades, so am very interested in what you do with the Ninja.

Breaking will be Galfer product for lines and pads, rotors will stay the same. Fork inserts undecided. Need to go shopping and see what offer the best value.

The stock setup is damn near perfect if you're around 5'8" 165 lbs. Unfortunately, I have big feet(size 11), and my heel would rest on the exhaust, throwing my whole body position off. Getting a slip-on exhaust will fix that.

I’m 5’9 and 135-140. This bike fits me perfectly and I’ve had so much fun so far. I do need to get the forward clip ons so I’m more tucked in when I’m n the freeway. I’ve jammed on the front brake fairly hard and I feel very comfortable with how the nose dives and reacts. I’m not sure if changing the oil would benefit me or not.

I'm the same height but way heavier (200) and its still good for me too, sag is on the high side but in the acceptable range. Thinking about the forks but I cant say I crave them to be stiffer on the bumpy canyons around here. Already got the GSXR600 shock but not on yet because the stock one is working so well right now. Kawasaki really nailed it with this bike.

I’m so glad I’m found this channel. I just purchased my first sports bike and after coming from a cruiser I’m struggling with ergonomics on the bike, particularly putting too much weight on my wrists. Do you have any videos on correct riding posture for sport bikes?. Thanks!
@101mattymatt
@101mattymatt 2 года назад
Theres plenty of others out there in your position. Key tip i would say is squeeze your legs into the tank and constantly check yourself by making sure you can easily swing your elbows side to side, checking your not putting too much pressure through your arms to keep inputs light.

Hey Dave, where can I get a new top yoke for my ninja 400 that will allow me to move the handlebar controls a bit forward instead of buying the clipons? As you and many ninja 400 users are well aware, there is only 1 screw on the controls and 1 hole on the top yoke thus you cannot adjust the position of them 🤔
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 2 года назад
You cab take the bolt out securing them to the upper triple clamp and then torque the main bolt. No clip ons attach to the upper yoke..... That would be option #1

Nice. The Ninja 400 is my second bike (after a few months with a cruiser). It's actually more comfortable for this older guy than the cruiser because the cruiser vibrates too much & hurts my knees!
@acid3129

My second bike was a suzuki marauder 125 I traded up to a triumph street triple and it was so much better on my back I think it's ye upright riding position of a cruiser that does us older guys in
@williewasahippie
@williewasahippie 2 года назад
@@acid3129 Yes. I also think some cruisers must vibrate more than others? I feel the handlebars vibrate in the S40! From my years as a tennis pro, my knees are achy and I realized I was getting vibrations right through the foot pegs! The Ninja mutes vibrations and has better suspension by comparison.

Great video Dave, smaller capacity bikes are so underrated when it comes to fun factor , best bang for your bucks. I have a Ninja 250R as a spare bike that I am using to improve on my cornering speed through the twisties. The fork oil change to 15w and sticky tyres made a huge difference, but as you know not all 15w or 20w fork oils are the same between brands, which I compared specs first. The other mod I would do is a double bubble screen. Going off the 250 the 400 Ninja would be such a great bike and improvement on where the 250 falls short, better on the highway and up hills with the extra capacity.

If you ever come across a cheap MV Agusta 800…I love the white and red RC’s but beggars can’t be choosers. I’ll buy it. It’s my dream bike. I had a deposit one but I lost everything in the last 7 months. So plans have changed. Have no plans anymore actually. The plan is to just not jump off a roof because I became poor overnight

I got an insurance quote for a ninja 400 and it was $172 a month… there goes all the money I would save on gas lol. I’ll stick with my rf900 that costs $25 a month to insure

Great share on the costs. Has to be a head scratcher with a 900 vs a 400. I guess it is all about the specific vintage more than engine cc.

What are your thoughts on removing the snorkles on the airbox on the 400? I was not able to find any of those thoughts on your website or here
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 2 года назад
I pulled the snorkels out (there is a video on that) and it made the air box noise louder and "seemed" to give it a little more power after 4,000rpm. If it does not hurt your ears, go for it :)

I'm 6'4" and while I'm a little cramped it's not at all painful. They don't really make sport bikes for people my size so you'll pretty much always be cramped at my height unless you mod the rearsets.

Just check how much fork travel you use and when it comes time for the fork service, get the oil changed to 10w as it will last a lot longer and give you a much better riding experience.

@catalystreactionsbw

PIR is fast so you need a cable tie on the right fork leg to show travel used. Make sure you have a base setting to work from and if needed, add preload and compression to the forks to keep the cable tie at 15-20mm from the bottom of the tube. Also put a little grease on the shock shaft to assess shock travel used. That track is very technical to ride well as timing for braking and corner entry is not what you eyes feel it is. Make sure you get a coach for the first two sessions. Any time you feel your upper body tighten, you are going too fast too soon so there's a little self help with that observation. Start at 70% and smile so you get the best laps in the afternoon when everyone else is exhausted and the track empties.

On trackdays they hold these pointless meetings before enter the track, they should just give us a piece of paper with the flag signals on it, must do 3 lap warm up, show any kind of defect of the track for that day, that is all. The information from the internet is far more advanced than some average guy talking about his celebrity status before we can enter the track.
