This game was one of the few things me and my dad had. He always played as Yoshi and I always played as Mario. And I'll tell you something. I will forever hold a grudge against Peach. We were playing in Yoshi Valley. Near the end of the third lap and I was in the lead. Just had to make my way past that narrow bridge when, from out of nowhere, Peach with star power hurls my ass right over the side. That happened nearly two decades ago....and I will never let it go.
@@LunarBloodRose27same with Yoshi him and his stupid language, then one time on Royal Raceway, I was DK and Bowser jumped from 6th to 1st in a matter of seconds. Bowser, I had a good chuckle over that one, I’m coming after you!
This game brings tears in my eyes of joy and sadness. I played this with my best friend ALOT in college. He went beyond..already been 13 years go..i still think of him everyday, and this game brings back all the joy.
It's because when the games you played as a child are played on modern HD LCD monitors and TVs they look MUCH worse compared to the CRT tvs you grew up with. They weren't supposed to be played and shown on these types of screens and the imperfections are largely magnified.
we didn't know better either and yes the TV makes also a difference. I plugged my PC on my TV and played Mortal Kombat Trilogy PC version. It was horrible on my LCD monitor. But when I plugged into my TV the game looked amazing! Like it was meant to. Graphics were really good. What they need to do in today gaming is giving the option to use filter. Bilinear for example is a great filter for 2D games so it comes close to TV quality
My family used to love this game. The N64 console that we own is still in mint condition, along w/ Mario Kart 64 & the controllers. Though we have the Wii, Xbox, PS3 & a 3DS, this monster of a machine will always be irreplaceable.
I just want to say that I'm playing this right now and I'm flooded with waves of nostalgia. Not of just playing this game or playing the N64 in general, but of those times in my life. I played this game so much with my one and only childhood friend and we drifted apart over the years, such is life. But wow, what a great time to have grown up and enjoyed these great games.
i never owned a nintendo 64, but nintendo goes to huge lengths to make the music excellent! this game has nothing but fun and nostalgia tied into it. and that tainbow road, man.
i miss n64 used to have a neighbor they had two kids who i'd go play with everyday after school or on the weekends we'd always play this game it brings back great memories.
childhood memories come flooding back...who remembers knocking your friend into the lava pit in versus mode? Lol or when you do yoshi valley and the giant egg rolls on to you and squishes you? Oh the memories haha
Who here remembers the shortcuts at Wario stadium? Or using the lightening to shrink your opponents right before the big jump at Royal Raceway? Ahh the memories will live on forever.
I used to play this everyday back in high school with my brother. we both were so good and competitive that we create 2 imaginary championship belts. one for the regular races and the other for the mirror races. Imo the lightning is your best weapon. Especially when everyone is about to jump the bridge lol!!
1:12 Poor Luigi 😂 14:07 so much for brotherly love 😂 20:37 lol he’s happy that he got hit with a shell 26:28: BWAAaaaa 30:57 Poor Luigi never gets a break lmao 32:43 “Yea! Still fun after all these years. Here's how I rank them #8 Mario Kart DS #7 Mario Kart 7 #6 Mario Kart Super Circuit #5 Mario Kart Wii #4 Mario Kart Double Dash #3 Mario Kart 8 #2 Super Mario Kart (original) #1 Mario Kart 64 I don't dislike MKDS, I just found it to be my least favorite. I'm already stoked for Mario Kart 9, or whatever it's going to be called.
That "game select" screen song though... It was so incredibly nostalgic, magical and intoxicating... You immediately knew you were in for a treat. The 90's in a nutshell. :') Never to be seen, heard or experienced again. We were so damn lucky to have lived that (and so terribly condemned to remember it afterwards...). There will never be a time such as the 90's again. That magic, authentic excitement, naivety... It's over. Forever.
Those were the days. Video games where you and your friends all get together at the same place and play for hours on end, even sleepovers, just because you're all so addicted to it. Maybe getting a little too crazy and pulling the controller plug out by accident... haha, I feel lucky to know I was apart of what I consider to be the best gaming generation.
Agreed! Had a blast with the Nintendo 64! Today, kids don't have to go socialize to play video games, which was half the fun in my opinion! I probably sound old, at 31, but that's OK! Lol
Ahaha man. When you said the thing about pulling the controller out it brought back a new aspect of memories from those days. I was around 5-8 when we were all playing this. I remember some friends getting mad and pulling there controller out or just getting too into it forgetting their was a chord and pulling it out while playing. N64 was the best
This game is an absolute classic next to Super Mario 64, Waverace 64, Donkey Kong 64, Lylatwars, Super Smash Bros And Goldeneye 007 and many other Nintendo 64 games
@@Lone5 Those are easily my top 3 favorites on the N64. Goldeneye being my favorite. Too bad I was born in the seventh gen of consoles and never got to play the N64.
Waverace, maaaaaan I felt that the graphics where insurmountable... I remember those times when the Nintendo Club Magazine was delighted with graphics and it was all exciting
@@antoniomontana2047 I found I could go as fast with any of them...it depended on how you played...at least the AI didn't get same item everytime like the SNES version....ugh...Mario and Luigi spend half the race invincible...
I was playing Mario Kart on the nintendo switch last night and this morning I get this video recommendation. Man, I can't believe how fast time goes by. It seems like yesterday I was in elementary school playing mario kart on my n64..........Now I'm sad cause I feel old.
I think it's number 2...When Super Mario Kart came out, my mind was blown. It was the first Mario Kart I played, was Mario Kart 64 your first? Nostalgia FTW?. Cheers!
VacuumScam I rumbled SMK like you, the SNES was the first console I played on back when I was a teenager. But MK64 is way more fun in my opinion. SMK was more "balanced", as you could literally leave the AI behind when you played perfectly, while MK64 cheats to keep up and sometimes smokes you by illegal means LOL. So yeah, MK1 can be considered the #1 as the genesis of the franchise. But let's not be blinded by love : in terms of variety, pure fun and gaming experience, MK64 remains the king of the mountain. :)

Nostalgia. Still own this game. My favorite Mario Kart despite the rubberband AI. This game is legendary for the fact it dawned the Blue Shell (Spiny Shell). I can tell this game is run through an emulator because the TV screens in some tracks are not working.
I think the main thing that Mario Kart 64 had going for it was atmosphere, music, and brand. Do I really remember what Dragon Lake was like in Diddy Kong Racing? No. Do I think the music of that game was distinct? Not really. Did it have atmosphere? I can't remember. See?
I feel the same way about this game, how strange. I can't really say it has distinct music when they use the same song on three or four different courses.
You bring up a great point, I remember Mario Cart 64 tracks and music, but I remember nothing about Diddy Kong Racing other than you can fly a plane. And I played the heck out of DKR.
haha i know you commented this years ago but i always htought opposite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ no need to say your wrong or anything just always felt the complete opposite
andrew chapman i did the same thing in mario kart 7 i played gran prix put hard mode played as him choosed green shell cup played one of the mario kart 64 tracks and made him lose by going on the wrong drecon until my revenge was final so thats how made him lose
Ah, the nostalgia, it hurts! My childhood is filled with many, many Mario Kart 64 races. I was 9 when this came out, and me and my three older brothers used to have MK64 tournaments against each other. It was great fun. :) I wish Toad still had his MK64 voice. It was hilarious.
Whenever I get to the Rainbow Road in any Mario Kart game, one of these songs plays in my head. It's always either: -"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf -"Night of Fire" by Niko -"Rocket Queen" by Guns n' Roses -"Fury of the Storm" by DragonForce
This game is breathtaking. You had some mad success, man. Anyone who expects MK8 graphics in an N64 game is wrong. This game has awe-inspiring graphics for an N64 game.
My faborite MK game along with MK8 which I going to get next month. When my older brother come from Prague,we playing this game on my Wii U. My mains in MK64 are Luigi and Bowser.
I played this game from the exact moment I woke up till the moment I went to bed one day during a vacation. when i closed my eyes I could still see the character i played with and the hud.
2018 I surly miss this game, i spend alot times at this game staying up all night. damn it surly were good moments and best generation of game designs. love it .
I played this game when I was 4 and it was amazing I traded this game for Double Dash when I was 8 And when I was 12 I I traded Double Dash for Super Mario Kart Good Memories
This was the Mario Kart game that birthed our worst enemy... The destroyer of people who are in 1st Place... The one we’ve seen in our nightmares... The blue shell.
The reason why I am watching this is because my uncle used to play this. I play Mario kart 8 Deluxe and my uncle said that he used to play this with his friends when he was younger. Good times!
I had many hours in my teens playing this game. I used to win all the time with Bowser as he had the fastest kart from my experience if if he handled like a bus!
I remember I used to cry to the ending credits song after my older brother would win the 150cc Special Cup 😭 I’d be so proud of him every time. This makes me miss being a kid
Also in Mario Kart 64 if you run over a banana. And tap the brakes you avoid spinning out. 😂 nice detail they included. To bad later Mario Kart games they removed it.
This Was my first game I ever played, N64 has really good graphics, theyre almost like the actually ones, I still got The N64 With mario party 1 and 2, and im getting this Mario kart soon (I got many MKs too), but in all the Mario Karts, this has the best courses/tracks
Man I could cry watching this...I really could. This game means soooo much to me and it was my first game that came with my n64.... I played this game religiously as a 11 year old
@ChiChrisTho23 lol man give it 5 more years, you will definitely start to feel it man..... Man it just blows my mind how i was just a kid 11 years old playing mario kart 64 for hours, litrally cleaning my moms entire house so she would give me extra time on my n64 and now here I am, I will be 31 years old this year and I have a 5 year old starting kindergarten.... man I look around sometimes in disbelief like, dude where did the time go!!!!
