Thank you very much! My issue was the jumper pak, had some corrosion on the connectors at the bottom. Cleaned the connectors, plugged in and worked straight away.
Remember that with the power supply, the voltage will come up to 12 v when it has a load. It is normal that the supply voltage shows a few volts under or over when there is no load. Because there are two rails coming from the supply (12 v and 3.3 v) you will find under no load that that one rail will be lower than the spec and the other will be higher than the spec. eg 11.2 v and 3.6 v. Hope this helps
hello, thanks for the video, mine work only for a few seconds with the expansion pack replica then freeze, i tried two original expansion packs but nothing, i know is not the console problem cuz i get to see the intro but then freeze, please help me, what do you think?
*WARNING* When unscrewing the first 6 screws to open the console beware that the plastic threading can become impossibly fragile. When putting an N64 of mine back together after repair, 3 of them crumbled after the minimum pressure was applied... Thanks for this video and giving me the confidence to open mine up. Luckily my childhood console survived, though my backup console on the other hand rattles with loose plastic inside now. My confidence to continue cracking open these old consoles has crumbled along with the fragile threading.
The memory expansion cart doubles the N64's RAM memory. Originally the console would come out with a jumper pack cart which basically terminates/shorts all the "secondary" RAM lines so that only the on board memory would be used.
hey Slot1Gamer i have a nintendi 64 just a question i have mine hooked up is there supposed to be a picture or sound if there is no game in the slot cuz when i turn it on with no game theres no picture or sound
Mine didn't work. I thought it was the video cable because the power light came on but I couldn't get a picture, however taking the jumper pak out turning it on and off then re-inserting the jumper pak fixed it.
my n64 has the same problem where the red light will turn on but nothing shows up on the screen. I've checked the RGB cables and they work just fine. I'll try getting a gamebit screwdriver soon and see if I can fix anything on the inside. I got this console from my older cousin, it was just sitting in his room for years so that might've taken a toll on it 😷 thank u for the video!!
I have the same issue with mine, however mine does have solid power going to it (the light is always on), my house only has hdtvs (which i read may be an issue), my RBG cable is a bit loose when I put it in, could be the cable? I'm yet to give the whole thing a clean but for someone who doesnt know much what would your advise be? Cheers.
I have 2 64s, one works perfect the other one doesnt get a/v so i took it apart cleaned it, hooked up. No audio or video still. Tried the cables on my console that works and everything turn on fine. I tried using my expansion pak from my good one in the non working system and still nothing. Any idea what could be wrong?
this is exactly whats been wrong with my nintendo 64, i'll watch and follow the whole tutorial another day (because life and work) but i'll follow it through and then the fun times can roll again :)
At the end you said you did something to the contact points of the power supply, did you just solder the points again? I saw that the two grounds points were connected via solder, did you break that contact point? I couldn't tell because the video was fuzzy towards the end. I ask because my N64 wont power on, I have two different AC connectors and none will work. Any suggestions?
John Gotti Jr I just re-worked the pins on the socket, they are usually the problem in most consoles but not this one.Do you have a multimeter? I'd check to see if power is getting to the main board, there are test pads on the main board for the different voltages, also check the power switch and reset..
Sorry for the late post but I have an issue with my N64. Now it works and plays fine but when the game is on screen it glitches into messy tone of colors. Is there a way to fix it?
I had the same issue after being in storage. Cleaned cartridge , ram, and system. The issue was the cartridge slot had dust under the contacts. Pull up on slot and boom dust.
Thanks for making this video. I have an odd problem with my Nintendo 64. I get clear sound, and the system plays games just fine, however it seems to have color issues. It's like the picture comes out nearly black and white, but has a bit of color...it's like the colors are extremely faded and unsaturated. Tried cleaning the carts and cleaned the cart slot with qtip and Windex, did not help. The console looks extremely dirty and I ordered a Gamebit from Ebay so I can open 'er up and give it a good cleaning. If the issue still isn't resolved after cleaning it, where should I pay attention to in the system to try and fix this?
IIDoratus ok two things, is the console the same region as your TV? Second the DAC or the video output could be shorting out get some isopropyl alcohol and give the board a good clean
Slot1Gamer Thank you for replying :) Yes the console is the same as my TV (NTSC). I have already cleaned the board of dust. Should I clean the legs of the DAC chip itself even though they look spotless?
Trying to resurrect a Nintendo 64, that's been up in my attic for about 10 years. I took it apart and cleaned all the connections with Iso Alcohol. Surprisingly the board and fitting looked good. I re-soldered the Power connection, and Multi AV port connections to make sure the unit has fresh solder to complete the electrical connections. Now i got the unit to power on, and i have sound but NO picture? Any idea why ? Also i have another N64 in good working order, that i have hooked up the the same power supply and cables and it works perfect so i know its not the power brick or cables. Is there a certain section of the N64 board i can jump out / or re-solder to test for picture?
The only game that will play on my hdtv is 007. I'm nite sure why I have the expansion pack. on my other TV it will not play at all. I have the red, yellow and white cables in correctly. and 007 will only play sometimes
Good video but when you say wash it what do you mean? I was told use a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol, but my n64 is having the same no video/sound problem.
helpboy3000 Yeah, Isopropyl is recommended (try to get 90%+, you don't want too much water.. I use 100%).. You can also buy PCB cleaner that comes in a spray can, works really well for cart connectors :).. Do some basic troubleshooting first ofcource hehe, most common is the jumper pack is loose :D Thanks for watching my video
Thanks for the vid. It felt like it was about 14 minutes too long though. In the end, it sounds like you fixed it, but you don't actually show it working.
Jon Carson When I watch other peoples repair videos, sometimes I find it more helpful if there is less stuff cut out, this was a 1~2 hour job btw. Yeah it was working, still is infact :) 13:00 is about where I showed it working :D Thanks for watching
hi. um do you know how to fix a n64 power adaptor? i have one that, if i plug it into any of my n64 consoles, i wont get video or sound, but the led will be on, if i try a different power adaptor on the same consoles, they will work perfect, any thoughtts?
I have the same problem that yo,but i have another solution: clean the cartridge exit with alcohol and a credit card. The console works very well BTW thanks fot that tutorial :D
^^^ THIS!!! ^^^ Initially I thought it sounded silly but I was desperate as nothing else worked. Although I tried compressed air and there was no visible contamination, the alcohol on the credit card worked like a champ. Thank you!
@@Eastsidee817 The n64 outputs 240p NTSC or 288p PAL new TVs don't accept 240p NTSC or 288p PAL tube TVs just used scan lines or line doubling to fill in the screen
You need two small flat blade screw drivers One to slide the clip to one side at the same une try and pry the two halves apart so the clip can go past the latch. Do this one clip at a time
I don't know what the problem is ith mine. Sometimes it works if I turn it on and off again for awhile and other times itll just turn on. The red light comes one but I get no picture. When it does work sound and picture are fine but if i even slightly move the console it will freeze. I'm afraid to open it because I don't want it to bust. Any idea?
Hey man great video I have the same issus if the mother bored has a loose solder point or something on the chip do I just sodder it ? Juts to make sure everything is connected right ?
***** In the video or what I normally use? They are both LCD, the one in the video is a 15" (AWIA, it's now owned by Sony) it has HDMI, VGA, Component, Composite, RF, HDRF, S-video and is multi region.
When I was about 9 I made this dumb mistake in my n64, i took an f zero game and put a snes game genie onto a game shark pro then put the stack into the system (Which was a dumb move) the system powered on for about one second then powered off did I burn out the power supply? Or did I fry the motherboard? Please help fast!!!!!
i'm sorry i couldn't watch the whole video , i have sound but no video what do you think my problem is? i tried the pins they were all okay i guess , should i just clean the insides a bit ?
I plugged in my n64 right and turned it on and no sound and no picture like i didn't evin put in the avs but i did thought the avs just need to be in a different av slot or something but nothing but i turn it on and it just shows the red light to let you know its on wth am i doing wrong its fucking plugged in what more do you want . i dont know
+Slot1Gamer it is. maybe its cus im using a new 720p tv. i had an old hd tv that was like 480p and it was fine but i dont want to switch to the old tv again.
@@Slot1Gamer I literally cannot find why it wont show picture or sound the board and everything is very clean. Only thing I haven't tested is the power supply
Slot1Gamer holy shit sup man. Basically I dug up my n64 to play but this time it didn’t turn in like it usually does. I took it all apart and cleaned it up good with rubbing alcohol, but it’s still just the red light on but no video or sound. I think I got a hookup from a friend to use their cords to test it out again, but any recommendations for what else I can do?
Hey thero! Hello! I have a problem too. I've never opened my N64 cause I feel that I'll break it. Any way, when I turn it on WITH the Expansion Pak, the Nintendo logo appears and it turns off, the it appears again and it turns off again and again. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! I wished so much to play Majora's Mask.... But I can't... Hope you answer please!!!!
the expansion pack holds all the memory does it, i think not considering its a 4mb pack giving the machine 8mb total when used plus most n64's never had them
The n64 outputs 240p NTSC or 288p PAL new TVs don't accept 240p NTSC or 288p PAL they accept 480i NTSC or 576i PAL higher resolutions 90s gaming consoles output 240p NTSC or 288p PAL instead of 480i NTSC or 576 PAL certain games output 480i NTSC or 576i PAL
Is it bad if i put it in the sink when it was on? XD No really i have been letting it dry for 2 days now is is still safe to test! THIS IS NOT A JOKE I PUT IT IN THE SINK!
panda sniper100 Hi, check the edge connector (the gold pins) on the video plug on the back of the console. they may just be dirty. Use a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol to clean them. Also check the pins inside the square end of the n64 AV cable too
no i just did some research and its because the cable i got to connect it to the tv seems to be fake i know as i borrowed a Friends cable and it worked fine but i appropriate the reply thanks
My Nintendo 64 when I plug it in it turns on I plug into the side of the tv and nothing pops up you can hear the sound but the tv screen I black and says Video
