Meh, people are just spoiled with Nintendo; They give us directs throughout the whole year and show the most gameplay when it comes to their games. But when they "have to" during E3 they already announced most of their hyped games,, They kept Starfox for E3 but the rest was pretty much announced already, besides that interesting new Zelda 3DS game and that silly metroid game.
This is E3, not another direct. Nintendo usually kicked ass with their conferences until they started doing directs, now they had nothing to show. Everything they could've shown didn't have to be shown during directs, it could've been a 2 hour conference here with them revealing even more games and content we would be interested in.
Floris Kunst You actually bring a fair point. Nintendo practically has E3 all throughout the year. Still, they surely have better games in the works that they could have shown. It was mentioned that they were focusing on the rest of this year and early next, and it certainly seemed that way. I definitely put my expectations way too high
I don't think Nintendo views E3 as a big deal as much as Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo always seems to just want to do its own thing and not worry about the competition, and only does E3 because everyone wants them to. I'm seeing a lot of people saying this was their worst E3 and that Nintendo is killing the Wii U, etc. but they've never really made a big deal about it by comparison to the other big companies. That's just my opinion though. I don't think it was their worst, and I don't think it was their best, but I do think people saying stuff like Nintendo is dead after this conference are overreacting. Nintendo's just doing what they always do, relaxing in the background while Sony and Microsoft try to destroy one another. Again, just my opinion on the matter.
I like the oddity of the puppets and the montage stuff at the end. The content itself wasn't too bad either (needed better presentation); there just wasn't a enough of it. Overall, this was underwhelming. I also agree that this may be the negative side to having Directs. It would be better if Nintendo had some more third parties to help out here so that's too bad. Now, I doubt Fraser's worst case scenario is even happening at all. As the Wii U isn't dying yet as there are still indies, other Nintendo games in production, and Nintendo knows better than to abandon it. Well, I'm sure they'll do better next year; most likely with Zelda Wii U.
Otakumichibi of course its not dying, I need my Splatoon and Smash and Mario kart DLC, and Devils third, and my bloodstained port, and my Zelda WiiU, and my Star Fox, leading into the super Mario Sunshine and Billy Hatcher sequels that are totally gonna happen *fingers crossed*
Otakumichibi They got a third party title coming, Fatal Frame 5 (the trailer is up on Nintendo's channel), but it's just disappointing that they didn't show it. No other gaming websites seems to be mentioning it at all and if Nintendo showed the trailer at their digital event, people would totally be excited for it!
BodySprayMan Oh, I know. It is odd they didn't show it or Pokémon Tekken (which I think will be localized maybe). I guess you could say this is the benefit to CG trailers as you have something to show, though Nintendo usually waits until they have some gameplay for their proprieties.
Otakumichibi Yeah, I was really hoping for Pokemon Tekken too. Maybe get another glimpse of some more fighters at the very least. But indeed, Nintendo does like holding off on showing things unless they got some gameplay to show or could give you a basic idea of what the game will be about. I respect them for that, but I also wouldn't mind at least one or two cool trailers games coming in the future we haven't know about with maybe a small glimpse of gameplay.
Definitely not the worst Nintendo did at E3 (We shall never forget the lives lost during the shitstorm of 2008) but just really underwhelming. Last year at least had the Zelda Demo and Splatoon.
You guys should try out the original Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii with just one episode to test it out because it could either work well for the show or not and it deserves at least a small test because it is a great game and you guys might enjoy it.
This was a sad conference. As a Direct, it's fine, but as an E3 showing? It's very underwhelming. I don't hate it like a lot of other people are online, since there are few games here I am intrigued by like the Mario & Luigi/Paper Mario Crossover, Star Fox, and Animal Crossing games... but I'm sad. Still, at least it had a decent presentation and wasn't boring. Just wish it was better and actually showed the Fatal Frame trailer (I know Nintendo is being kid friendly here, but dang it, they should should have tossed that in and people would have been excited! First footage of the actual game!)
The only thing that I remotely cared about in this Direct was Triforce Heroes, cuz I liked Four Swords. It's a gaming conference, not a chance to spend 20 minutes talking about your amiibos.
Nintendo fan? Dude they've repeated themselves for years now, Mario is bloody call of duty with how many games they make of him and all the rest that doesn't have Mario in it? Gets trashed pretty badly compared to the graphics and gameplay Mario gets. Sony and Microsoft was the best by far and once again Nintendo lacks, no matter what u say they aren't surviving they are done without something besides Mario, I mean watch the new system be hyped and get like nothing after about 6 games maybe, then they'll throw in the old ones, if they released a Pokemon game that looks like anything that has been Mario related and 3d then that's gonna absolutely kill the other companies, but of course Nintendo, gotta feed the retarded fans that suck them off and make it worse for all the others. Becuz they're just throwing there money at them like sheep to get what back? A star fix that could be played on the orginal Xbox and a 3rd person paint shooter and more Mario? Weak man weak
I am the most burned by this. I thought this would be the e3 where Nintendo blew us all away with Wii U launches, and what I saw was sooo dull. Star Fox was the worst way to open this, cause I thought this would be just one of the biggest showings, but it was the only thing of real note. And worst of all, half of this year is gone to be dead for Wii U.
bobu nal Yeah, I honestly can't see the Wii U sales going up anytime soon. The 3DS is doing well, it should still have games, but the Wii U needs to be the main focus.
KainScion Same game over and over? How's Halo 5(there's more then 5 of 'em) Gears of War 4 How you enjoying that Uncharted 4(fifth game) Maybe some Assassin's Creed 14? Or maybe CoD 40? xD Fuck man, you can call out Nintendo on rehashing, when you're console of choice stops doing it.
Honestly, I haven't been this disappointed in one of Nintendo's E3 presentations since 2008. There really weren't any hype moments. Even Starfox was a bit underwhelming. I just hope they somehow redeem themselves with these Treehouse live shows, but I doubt it.
It was just "OK". The beginning was funny and great but after that it went down hill. They gave us a Metriod game that is not a Metriod game. Hopefully next year Nintendo makes it one of their best! With Zelda Wii U and NX I'm sure of it.
That Yokai Watch thing is insanely popular here in Japan. The kids at my kindergarten are all over it. Pretty much all the Yokai ghost things are Japanese references so no idea if it will get popular in the West or not. It has the potential to be a Pokemon killer so it surprises me that they didn't have a bigger plug for it. Bad E3 job, Nintendo.
This could've been a conference too. I don't see how people could defend Nintendo with this. Because we all asked for Mario Tennis, again, Galaxy 3 and Punch Our hints and nothing about that. Just wow. EA did worse, but Nintendo sucked. Just, fucking wow.
I think Fraser said it best... "It's like a puppy who shit on the rug, and then looked at you like 'ruwr?'." I love(d) nintendo... but lately I'm not sure, I'm leaning MUCH more towards Sony and Playstation... Only reason I even purchased a WiiU was for Zelda.
This wouldn't be a fuck you to Wii U owners, they most likely will announce next E3 2016 that the NX is coming in Holiday 2017, giving Wii U the usual normal console life of 5 years. I have a feeling that there will be more to come for Wii U in the coming years, Zelda Wii U won't be ported because that's next year and was supposed to be coming this year (Twilight Princess was ported but not Skyward Sword but that's probably because of motion controls), Metroid for Wii U is still in development, Retro still hasn't announced their new Wii U game and the Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensai crossover. That's four major titles from 2nd quarter 2016 until NX's launch and they most likely will announce more in Nintendo Directs. Hell, they still have to talk about those Third Party partnerships they said they were gonna talk about this week. Project Treasure from the creator of Tekken is still in development and Devil's Third is coming out soon. Not to mention all the games coming out this year like Starfox, Mario Maker, Yoshi, Xenoblade and Fatal Frame. Nintendo said earlier this year that they would only be showing off games that are coming out later this year and early 2016. They seem to not care about E3 anymore because they could just announce their biggest games all year round with Directs and they won't get overshadowed by Sony and Xbox fanboys fangasming over a remake, kickstarter and backwards compatibility. The Wii U isn't dead yet, I just don't want to wait forever for a game they announce today that won't be coming soon. Despite that, Animal Crossing: amiibo Party edition and "Not really Metroid Prime" on the 3DS was scummy of them to do.
I remember when I watched E3 in 2011 and 2012, everything was so hyped up, it felt amazing it was like this glorious moment to be a gamer watching all these amazing titles being revealed with all this flare and cinematic trailers. And then most of them didn't even came close to living to those expectations, disappointment after disappointment. By 2013 I was cautious but optimistic but after the Watch_Dogs ordeal all the hype I felt watching cinematic trailers and listening to corporate boasting in this conferences was gone, I became super skeptical. That's why I like Nintendo's presentation more than the others, it feels sincere, I feel like they can deliver everything they show, they show much more gameplay, and gameplay that looks convincing, Nintendo has a very good history of a impeccable presentation on it's games so although I don't get excited like I did in their press conferences I feel much better knowing that I won't be disappointed with the product.
oiinvadar That's what they have over the others, sure, and I'm surprised that after "ZombiU is going to be a system-seller!" and "Watch_Dogs is the game of the year!" Fraser still gets excited about CG trailers with no gameplay.
I'm just as disappointed as you. But I don't think the presentation is the problem. There just wasn't that much interesting stuff. Aside from Star Fox, pretty much everything has been shown before. The problem that does arise with these Digital Events is that Nintendo treats it like just another Direct, even though this should be the *biggest* show of the year. They should show off their greatest projects here. If they're desperate enough to show things like Blast Ball (which looks more like a eShop-only game) and AC amiibo Festival (which is just a slap in the face) then I'm very worried. The stream worked just fine when I watched it, the problems are on your end.
fireluigi12 Nah, previous year they understood that it's special, and I think this time the problem was in their decision to show stuff only for 2015 and early 2016 and only if the title is in good enough shape (so no Zelda, "Treasure", stuff like that). Of course it means that there's nothing that exciting (all exciting shit was already revealed) and leads to fans who cry that Wii U is abandoned and Nintendo is doomed yet again.
As a Nintendo fan, this was horrible, Metroid, Animal Crossing Party, Already seen games... The only things I enjoyed were Star Fox, Yarn Yoshi, Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, Xenoblade, and possibly Mario Tennis if it's as good as the GC one. EDIT: Also Mario Maker I enjoyed a lot, that looks hype as hell. But I feel you Fraser, that puppy analogy was essentially what this was. In fact, the Metroid Prime 3DS trailer on RU-vid has about as many dislikes as Rebecca Black's "Friday", which really says something about what the fans feel.
Nintendo show tons of Amiibo and Mario but they give a little screen time to these amazing game - Xenoblade Chornicles X (It's already released in Japan and it's freaking amazing) - Fire emblem Fates (I wonder how many people know how hardcore this game is with Castle Building , Perma Death etc.) They also ignore to show fantastic game that will be release this year - Fatal Frame 5 (who doesn't love this?) - Fast Racing Neo (It's the best indie game on WiiU now) Like seriously Nintendo , get yourself together FFS!!!
In all honestly, I think the only real hype and excitement they were saving up for when it came to anything related to Nintendo this year, was basically for the Smash Direct they did. Cause that was pretty much the only thing that pretty much left people excited and happy from this whole E3 direct event....and the sad part about that, is the fact that even that also got ruined when most of the stuff they announced for Smash Bros got leaked beforehand. I really was hoping Nintendo would win this but as much as it pains me to say it, in the end, all I can really say is, better luck next year Nintendo.
Also, you seem to have a very warped and disturbing view on "Nintendo Fanboys". Taking a look at the dislikes on the Metroid and Animal Crossing videos and the general response of the Digital Event shows that.
This actually didn't disappoint me, but maybe that's because I actively try to avoid looking at E3 like it's a competition. xD Maybe Nintendo's E3 showcase wasn't very impressive, but they release a direct with new tidbits every month, so I don't think it's that they're lacking games. It just seems that way since they don't announce them all at once. But I do feel like they just aren't interested in the "contest" E3 is, ever since they stopped doing conferences.
Stuff that I was excited for: Fire Emblem Fates (really glad to see a fully English trailer and the game looks great) Shin Megami Tensi X Fire Emblem (I was always sold on this game, but the voice cast is really good) Star Fox Zero (despite the fact that it was underwhelming, it's still a new Star Fox) Zelda: Triforce Heroes (gotta always love Four Swords sequels) Yoshi's Woolly World (as cute as ever) Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam (huge fan of the series) Xenoblade X (again, huge fan) And of course, Super Mario Maker (the bit where they were showing the old drawings was legendary) So, in conclusion, I think that for a presentation, this was a great direct. But for an E3 conference stand in, his was really inappropriate. A lot of the news was exciting for stuff we had always known about or expected, but when it came to getting us hyped for the future or letting us know of new things to come, it was very underwhelming. It's hard for me to say it was bad, because in any other time, this would've been a very good presentation. It just wasn't the right one for E3. :(
Man, twitch really ruined that reaction, it works so well when you watch it as intended, the muppet action is great, but is broken up segments with pringle adverts splashed in, just comes off weird, and all the quality and streaming issues, then they went you youtube and it was fine =T
Dusty the Husky How are you figuring this waste of money? lol Who needs Super Mario 3D land, Pikmin 3, Zelda Windwaker HD, Smash Bros4, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors, Mariokart 8, Bayonetta 1&2. With Starfox, Mario maker and Xenoblade Chronicles X coming out before the end of the year?
Trakker1985 Very few of those games interest me, Windwaker I have on GameCube so I won't be buying the same game again regardless of new features, Starfox I never cared for. The only ones you've mentioned that I want to try is Splatoon and Bayonetta, In my opinion WiiU has nothing of any interest to me but i'm holding out hope for a new good 3D Mario and Zelda.
i only watched the nintendo direct to see whether or not i'd want to buy the new starfox (which i do because r-wing mech) and when the american release date for Xenoblade X was going to be. everything else i could take or leave there were maybe 30 seconds of new FE Fates footage and the tri force heroes caught my attention. that's about it and that animal crossing mario party thing better be fuckign free
Ok except muppets which I enjoyed it was bad, however, that does not mean that i wasn't excited for every game they showed that wasn't tennis or animal crossing. and because I have a WiiU and PC, the only missing out on IMO is horizon and KH3, which will be fixed by end of the generation i'm sure when I finally decide to plop down on a PS4. otherwise yeah, Nintendo just has take this feedback and make their directs into next year better, which is great to time rise form the grave so to speak because Zelda WiiU is definately gonna be shown off next year. If Xbox can reverse their console shit storm, I Nintendo can do it with their game schedule.
I was expecting Starfox Zero to look even better actually. The water looked alright, but I thought it would look like the Zoness level in the 3ds Starfox game just HD-ified.
slappign the metroid title onto blast ball actually made people hate the game. which is unfortunate because the publishers who made it didn't want to ake that, they wanted to make a genuine metroid game
As one of the biggest Nintendo Fanboys I know.... Call me dissappointed, I was totally pissed when the direct ended with that mario music shit and I've been pretty depressed about it all day.
Interesting things at this years Nintendo E3 - Mario Maker (With original sheets and speech of creation for the first game) - Star Fox (For some people)
it's official.....Nintendo pretty much mostly lost at E3 2015 (i say mostly cause Star Fox Zero, co-developed by Platinum Games by the way, Super Mario Maker, and Xenoblade Chronicles X look interesting, that's it). no Paper Mario Wii U was definitely the worst part of their E3 conference (and Animal Party whatever the fuck it's called too was terrible). Sony pretty much won all the glorious E3 hype juices. i gotta get myself a PS4 somehow....fuck me : p.
FUCKING DAAAAMNIT! All I wanted to see was Becky and Fraser's reactions to the puppet stuff but they missed half of it. Worst, E3, ever. Kill me. Just fucking kill me.
It's interesting how exactly polar opposite people's reaction to Metroid Prime Blast Ball was from what you predicted lol. "I want a graph chart of people shitting on Blast Ball and now suddenly loving it because it's Nintendo Blast". In reality people thought "Cool, a new thing!" When Blast Ball was announced, then when it was revealed to be a Metroid project people HATED it, I have never seen such burning rage from the Nintendo community. "This is what you decide to do with Metroid Prime after leaving us waiting for so long?", "This is what the Metroid Series has become?", etc.
Well, you are wrong about Metroid... Everybody hates the new Metroid. There is even a petition to cancel the game. About NX, we know it's a game system, but we don't know wether it's a handheld or a console, It was confirmed on the press conference with the DeNA partnership. But yeah Nintendo f*cked iup hard. They basically killed the Wii U there. I expect Zelda will be cross gen and think a 2016 release for a Wii U successor might be possible...
As a Nintendo fanboy I can say this was awful in comparison to last year. Half the games they showed we already knew about, they trolled fans with Metroid and Animal Crossing U, they wasted way too much time on Wooly World especially, and they only showed three new interesting games, being Star Fox, Zelda and M&L: Paper Jam. Hopefully they make it up with future directs, but like Fraser said, E3 should have something special.
Fire emblem awakening was my favorite game in 2013 so I'm super excited for Fire Emblem Fates and also SMTxFE, Xenoblade and Mario Maker but aside for that, most of the rest was ok or worst : There's no way in hell I'm giving any money to that "metroid prime" game, I was never into Star fox and for the big point of the presentation it looked really "meh". That animal crossing board game I have no faith in...they can't get mario party right so I'm sure they won't get this right...and you won't be able to find those amiibos anyway.
Comparing Nintendo with the other E3 presentations...I dare to say, theirs felt completely out of touch with reality. They're now openly denying the existence of third party companies on Wii U. You know how happy I would've been if they at least announced a single third party game in this lineup? You know, without Nintendo references or freakin' Amiibo support in it?
Does anyone think it possible that the Nintendo would launch the NX as a second console line? As in Wii (line) would continue being the innovative and family friendly gaming console, while the NX would be for the more gaming dedicated crowd? Just speculating.
As a side note, there was a noticeable lack of Iwata in this direct (besides the terrifying puppet). I wonder where he is... I do know he apparently gave an apology to disappointed fans for the E3 direct (although Reggie denies it, but it looks like an apology to me).
This may be my first hated post but... I feel like Mario is entering sonic status now. Like he's the top stripper at the club who everyone wants and he puts on a smile... but at the end of the day Nintendo is raking in and Mario is left still that dirty plumber cleaning your pipes if you know what I mean ;)
The thing is as a world of gamers we are all spoiled when it comes to games and getting on hype trains and yes sometimes its fun but at the same time hype creates too much hope and games fall short its just a overload of games we all have atm just because Nintendo doesn't want to get on the let's hype a game and have it sell a fuck ton before the majority of people find out it's a bait and switch *cough * Colonial Marines*. But yes I agree it seems not a lot of big hype awesome games but yes I do agree with the intro they should have started with Star Fox ingame footage but you know thats how Nintendo decided to run with it. And no im not saying your wrong at all but i'm content with Nintendo not going the hype route so many games have done this and been failures or people expected too much but ya at least the new Yoshi game is coming and the New Mario RPG game will be something i'm looking forward too.
The wii u is going to be done by next year next e3 there going to talk about nx and release it in 2016 they might have a couple game released for wii u after that its done.the nx might also be backwards compatible with wii u so the wii u consle itself is done it will only be useful to play wii games
It's sad to see such a bad conference from them this when last year I felt that they won . But this year was just so Boring, it's pretty sad that that Ea conference had more high points then Nintendo
