Nintendo is like a mischievous, magical forest imp that occasionally appears out of the overgrowth just to be wild and enigmatic and jolly - and the villagers would prefer it use its power to answer the needs of the people, but when you least expect it, it manifests, leaving a beautiful berry basket on your porch (the berries are the poisonous kind that only some birds can eat)
Its open for 5 days because in Japan, it's a raffle. But yeah... I was up at 7:30 ready to hit the button as soon as the clock hit 8 and didn't get in.
I'm surprised that Arlo didn't touch on the most popular trending theory for what this is, but I also appreciate the realism because a closed-online playtest for GC games seems unlikely.
I feel like this being announced the same day as alarmo really upped the confusion factor. It'll probably be like messaging or some sort of streaming thing, but considering they aren't telling us what it is but they were willing to talk about the alarm clock that scans you while you sleep, it feels like it could literally be anything.
What I think it is that nobody is talking about... I think they are gonna put all the NSO consoles into one NSO app. That way you don't have to cycle through to look for SNES, or be like "Oh well, now I feel like playing Ristar!" cycle through all the apps to look for the genesis NSO stuff just to play Ristar. I think it'll just be one app where you can have all the game consoles in one place. Making it easier to navigate through the NSO library since you don't have to close an app go to the the other app open that app, wait for it to load, then look for a game to play. They could also have sorting where you put your favorite games and there they are front and center when you boot up the NSO. This could also be something as crazy as Xbox game pass on switch but that's a huge stretch.
My personal favorite theory is that it's a beta test for a Trophy/Achievement system for Switch 2. Makes sense, I think you don't need THAT many people for something like that and it creates a lot of buzz since it's a feature people have wanted for a decade plus. Would also make sense if there's some game that's tied to it, maybe an old one purely for functionality testing.. maybe a demo of an upcoming game for hype?
By the way, the application for those who got in (like me) said that there would be more information "around 21/10", so slightly before the playtest begins. I don't know if this information will be public or just for those who got in, though
I don't see why they would ever attempt to keep it secret. 10000 people is going to leak instantly. People will post it online. They will stream it live.
@@Mega-tl6bxI mean... there's no way they can contain it lol as soon as the feature is announced people are gonna reveal it even if they were under NDA
There are over 100 million switches in the wild. Even if just a 1/4 of those had expansion pass and even a quarter of those apply you are still competing against millions of people.
People saying GameCube NSO are crazy. They wouldn’t do secret testing for that NOR would they even do it period considering they can, have, and will just rerelease full remasters. They didn’t do all that work on Metroid prime, thousand year door, so on so forth just to also offer those versions as an online perk LOL
With the small amount of players, I think that Nintendo is doing this more for the advertising and the conversations that will come from this than the actual test. If they really needed to test something like that, they could pull together employees and employees families. They probably still will be testing something- but that’s not the main purpose of this. I just have no idea what it is that they’re planning on doing.
If its anything, i would want them to bring back the socials that the ds systems had, that they removed from the switch for whatever reason. During the virus it would have been something to keep people preoccupied on it outside of playing an 80$ game on it. Getting it primed for the Switch 2 would make sense, but in the end whatever it is, its going to be made with the new system in mind, but somewhat usable on the switch 1.
Eh well, I wasn't expecting a reveal this month anyways. I think they're going to wait until after the holidays to reveal the successor. I'm not exactly the most knowledgeable on profit, but I feel like announcing a bigger, better switch right before the holidays would tank their holiday sales. If I was a consumer who planned on buying a Switch or giving someone a switch for Christmas and Nintendo revealed the switch 2 in October, I wouldn't buy the switch and just wait until the release of the new console. My guess is a March 2025 reveal and a fall or holiday 2025 release. (But real talk I want to be wrong SO bad. I would love a reveal this month. I am DESPERATE for the Switch 2.)
@@adamant_viewer they can still reveal the new console this year. 2 Weeks after Brothership comes out, just like how Switch 1 was revealed 2 weeks after Color Splash. Then they can host a Switch 2 presentation in early 2025 and release the console in Spring 2025.
I just had a thought, what if this new app is a music player we've been asking for all this time. A NSO+ music player that you don't need to pay for any specific soundtracks, you just get every nintendo games soundtrack to listen to as long as you have a NSO+ subscription
I’m very glad to hear you took at least 1 day off!! I went from 20x5 push-ups to 30x3 + 10… gonna be here for a while until I’m close to doing them no sweat. Then I’ll up it again to 40x2 + 20… looks like you are doing your own 3 sets of video releases!!! 💪ARLO💪ARLO💪ARLO💪
Maybe TMI but I had to wake up early this morning to go have diarrhea and I saw that this was about to happen. So I decided "Eh, may as well try to sign up." And I got selected! Best diarrhea I ever had!
Didn't see it on my initial comment scroll but the folks who got in are getting more information on the 20th of this month about whatever this mysterious playtest thing is!
Nintendo had a survey on the switch's Whats New sidebar whatever thing. The future of it, what you like about it, what you'd like to see. I think this test is related to that.
With how weird the clock is this could be anything. It might lot even have to do with games. Maybe it checks the temperature of your room. Maybe it offers stress relief techniques. Nintendo is so random
It's been confirmed that participants are under NDA and are not allowed to share any information about the software or their experience, but something tells me not everyone is going to adhere to those restrictions...
Just desperately want them to at least continue using Pool Codes to connect to people online like Splatoon. It works so much better than the default modes Nintendo offers to link with friends. That or something even better than Pool Codes, just not worse.
I hate that I didn't get in, but we can commiserate together Arlo! As to what this is, I'd hope it would be something to get their network ready for Switch 2, but it's probably something super boring we've enjoyed on PC/other systems for years.
Tin-foil hat conspiracy--can this lead to possible rammifications for new switch or GameCube for NSO on the next switch? Both? Or maybe the new online feature should be NEW SERVERS to imrpove wi-fi!! Wouldn''t THAT be a great new feature?!
I would doubt it. Gamecube NSO would take up so much space. Just 10 games would be around 11 gigabytes, and systems like the launch switch or the lite only has 32gb of internal storage assuming not everyone has an SD card.
@@DapperIndividualThey could just have it be a lightweight frontend that looks like the others and allow you to pick which games you want to download within it.. or just release gamecube games seperately like they did with Pikmin.
@@DapperIndividualMost GameCube games are well under the size of the disc limit (1.4GB) itself, it’s definitely possible to fit the entire first party library into an ~15-20GB app (TotK is 18GB for comparison) when you factor in that NERD would figure out a way to compress these games heavily, and if you remove games that already have remasters like Pikmin and Metroid Prime that would make it even lighter Still seems strange to be so secretive if it’s just GameCube NSO though…
People who got in will receive more information on or about the 20th. It could also be cloud gaming. Maybe even NSO GCN?? Not that the Switch needs cloud gaming to handle GCN games but you never know with Nintendo
I just want them to announce a new Direct already. Do the Switch 2 reveal. They did the original Switch reveal on 20th October 2016, so maybe they're aiming for the same date? Please announce an announcement date! Do something! Nintendo please!
Im guessing something like an addition to the NSO software. Like you mentioned but similar to the Wii U system (can't remember what it's called!). Either that or it's going to be a playtest of having peoples Nintendo accounts being identified as being on Switch, or Switch 2. Where Switch 2 profiles will have the additions like Pokemon on GB & GBA as a Switch 2 exclusive with trading added in. Or even Gamecube games or NDS/3DS games as the exclusivity for Switch 2.
All Nintendo is doing is testing the Switch 2 Online system that what I believe as they will probably be having their staff test the Switch 2 online with the normal Switch players and the alarmo ⏰ hold the secret to the major gimmick for the Switch 2 and that's the motion sensing capabilities in the alarmo
And they will be doing their shows and movies through their up and coming XR Headset they are making with Google and they will also be doing XR and VR experiences some of this is in the latest Nintendo patent
I could see GCN games on NSO.....but you choose which games you want to download. Due to how big GCN games are, you could download them all, if you have the space. DS games too, getting the screen settings right. Stuff you could easily test, get feedback on the current Switch. Switch 2 is just Juggernaut sitting in back, waiting to be let out.
I feel like this will be a turned up battle royal NSO service that streams different games and challenges at different times. Like a national open for Super Mario Bros. Pros. Or something like that, Maybe a big spectator ability too?
I didn't get into the test either. Whatever. It's just a test. Whatever this secret feature is will likely be open to NSO+EP subs by next year at the latest. I ain't mad
Nintendo fans are like Piranhas man. And Nintendo themselves, know that, dangling 1 piece of juicy steak to the tank. I been gave up on trying to grab anything these companies do in short quantity. Just give me the scraps.
I think its a test for Mario Party, cuz the new MP releases soon and MP is notoriously shitty when it comes to online service, even when compared to other NSO features. So maybe they are just trying to avoid the criticism the previous MP had by optimizing the service for Mario Party jamboree.
i just turned the video on so idk if Arlo touches on this but notice how they did NOT say it had nothing to do with Switch 2???? They are so annoying with every single thing talking about how there would be no information about Switch 2 and suddenly they are not doing that. Is Switch 2 being announced between now and the playtest?!
@@Surelockohms an online feature used for both is my guess. Switch is dead. They are announcing it any time. Why are they doing some huge playtest for something specific to the Switch. Whatever it is, is def going on Switch 2 as well
