Nintendo Proved That We Don't Need the Switch 2 Yet

This year seemed like a buffer for the Switch 2, but now it seems like a banger!
Nintendo's seemingly been holding back lately. After skipping their usual winter Nintendo Direct and releasing remakes/remasters like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, people have been assuming that the heavy hitters wouldn't come until the launch of the next console.
That all changed with the most recent Nintendo Direct, however. Games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Mario and Luigi: Brothership, Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and more all prove that the Nintendo Switch still has some life in it. Even Nintendo Switch Sports got an update!
Even third party releases like Stray, an HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest 3, and Ace Attorney Investigations Collection all show that third parties are very much still focused on putting out high quality Switch games.
I think that the real fever for a successor to the Nintendo Switch was fueled by a desire for more games, not necessarily more hardware power. This Nintendo Direct completely solved that issue!

Honestly, I've been feeling like this since waaaaaay before this Direct. I have 700+ games in my Switch collection already, plus a couple hundred additional games on my wishlist, and I'm DYING to get to play them all eventually. I truly feel like the Switch can last me at least 4 more years! I'm in no hurry AT ALL for the new hardware. In fact, I think I'll wait for the "second edition" of the new hardware (like the OLED Switch in this gen) to get into it.

I'll probably get the next console on day one because I hate FOMO 😆. But yeah, there are so many Switch games coming out after this direct, and I honestly have no clue how I'm gonna get through them all

Mario & Luigi Brothership and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom are games that you'd think would've been saved for the Switch 2's launch year because of how far we are into the Switch's life and how long it had been since the last new games in those series, but instead we're getting them later this year on the Switch. The Switch's 8th year is still putting out exciting new games and it's amazing how much Nintendo has been able to support the Switch. Metroid Prime 4 will probably be a cross-gen game with it just having a 2025 window and the Switch 2 likely releasing next year, but it's insane how good it looked on the Switch.

I agree that Metroid Prime 4 will probably be a cross gen game, which is wild to think about since Metroid Prime 4 was announced only a few months after the Switch came out

Wym? Nintendo desperately need new more powerful hardware soon their sales keep dropping every year since 2022. Plus gamers have moved on to next gen games on ps5 xbox series x

I think their sales are dropping because mostly everyone that would buy a Switch already has one. Their bread and butter now, and for the past couple years, seems to be in software sales. It is true, though, that a new console would give them a needed push in hardware sales

I am definitely in this group. Even with the new hardware coming my interest in Nintendo has ceased to exist over the last couple years. I'm already saving for a Steamdeck and I have no interest in whatever console they come out with next.

Yeah, their hardware being so weak has lead to me using switch emulators as of recently. Just because they can release decent games on the current hardware doesnt mean they should. Metroid prime 4 ESPECIALLY is being held back massively because of the hardware. I gurantee metroid prime 4 would have been the game that showcases the power of the next console, had they just held it off till switch 2. Im genuinely sad its a switch 1 game

@A-Spoto i agree. pc handhelds like steam deck is killing Nintendo. Hope microsoft buy Nintendo soon i think ms can save Nintendo and help them with modern tech

@mystraunt2705 yeah i get what you mean. Im sad seeing Nintendo crumbling like this they're getting obliterated by ps5 xbox series pc handhelds and mobile gaming

We need the switch 2. Sure these are great games, but they could be a LOT better on more powerful hardware. This greatly saddens me. Especially metroid prime 4, I was stoked when I saw the green text on screen, but when i realized it was a switch game it kind of hurt man.

I'm confident that Metroid Prime 4 will be a cross gen title, so I'm not too worried. Plus, the fact that people couldn't tell if Metroid Prime 4 was running on the Switch 2 or not says a lot

@idiosyncrasygaming I read a TON of comments of people saying they could tell it was switch footage just by looking at it. A lot of them could have just been bull-shittin, but the fact that a lot of things straight up didnt have shadows made it kind of obvious.

My previous comment sounds kind of rude, that is not my intention

They don't need to prove it, most people only buy nintendo for nintendo games and they make the best games sure 3rd parties don't look the prettiest or run the best but im not playing third party on my switch and for that matter I barely play 3rd party games at all when it comes to newer titles anything after 7th gen for 3rd party devs suck unless it's a small indie studio which their games usually run just fine on switch Realistically we don't need a new switch till like 2030

I do play most third party games on other platforms, true, but not everyone can afford to have multiple consoles, so the more third party releases on the Switch, the better. Plus, the portability is nice. But you're right, the first party games are looking insanely good right now
