Mario day happened over the weekend on Sunday and Nintendo had some pretty good announcements to make. Another studio has shutdown, this one originally had high expectations after partnering with Sony.

We've had Nintendo's GB, GBC, GBA, SNES, NES emulators since the late 90's. They will never go away. You can run them on almost anything.

I’m a bit worried about stuff like Retroarch which is an all in one emulator that supports multiple systems to emulate, including I believe basically all the retro Nintendo ones. Will they be hit with multiple lawsuits for each system? Could the Nintendo lawyers escalate thing and potentially even get them arrested due to how many different things they touch on that Nintendo could argue as their “intellectual property”? Idk, not a lawyer so don’t know how this stuff works.

They have been spending too much money and now in 2024 they are hitting the panic button before they hit the financial "iceberg" that is a dead year for gaming until 2025. Budgets are too big and dev time is ridiculously years upon years. They're going to double down on cheaper to make games and put more into live service.

It's really simple actually, a bunch of them just keep failing. These big companies thought they could just throw money at problems but it doesn't actually solve any creative issues, then small studio games come out and take over and all these share holders are looking around like the fuck is management doing.

One of my childhood heroes has ascended to mangaka heaven, From Dr Slump & Dragon Ball Z, Toriyama-sensei's works have been a big part of my childhood and other kids growing up in the 1990's, I take comfort knowing that his legacy lives on, not only in the manga's or animes, but also the video games he contributed to character illustrations such as Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger. R.I.P Toriyama-sensei.

@@MasterZebulin Japanese manga studios have a succession of artists / protege’s under the lead mangaka, so there will be another artist who will take over the existing projects. The same can be said for after the creator of “Berserk” Kentaro Miura passed away back in 2022, artists under his studio have vowed to continue his work.

We also need to start considering a mass lawsuit against forced online connectivity for offline games with physical copies. Also I almost think day1 patches are deliberate to assure most physical copies won't work properly at launch. I have noticed a dramatic reduction since the COVID era of a need for day 1 patches just to fix an utterly broken game. It's usually more minor fixes now rather than some strangely common early game breaking bug that generates save corruption, or just prevents play.

I mean, there's PC games, mobile games, and all digital consoles, not to mention a bunch of smaller games that don't get a physical release. And some game cases just being a cardboard disc with a code on it. Not saying I don't get your reasoning, but it's actually impossible in many cases.

All this crying about digital games and yet, here I am, the beneficiary of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo making a chunk of their profits from digital content. As a gamer, it is a win-win. Physical phases out, people will still buy digital. Primary digital sales = I win as an investor who still sees healthy dividend payouts in spite of the so called “outrage” and the varying “controversies” over the last 4-5 years.

Congrats, you're part of the 10 percent who still cares about physical media. You're the real problem, this is the reason content creators have to act like they care about physical media so they don't get canceled even though they buy 90 percent of their games digital. It's simple, no one wants 500 physical games taking up space in their house when you can simply download it. This is the future, let's actually live in it.

Nintendo fans on switch are used to waiting to get the same game that's on Playstation or Xbox some times it take a year or more. So PC users get ready to have wait to play that PlayStation game on your PC just like us Nintendo fans. The good part is when you do get that game you know you will have a lot of fun playing it without buying a PlayStation 5

Not necessarily. It could be because of clotting from the ruptured or leaky blood vessel inside the skull. He had recently been operated on to remove the tumor. Combined with his smoking problem may have led to it opening up or bursting causing his death.

We haven't seen the end of layoffs in the gaming industry. Sony has revealed that AAA games are not very profitable overall. This has been suspected for some time, when Sony "accidentally" released the true cost of some of it's AAA games it sent shock waves through the whole industry. The style of games in development isn't helping either, live motion capture games were the trend the last ten years but gamers have grown tired of this trend. Problem this type of game takes 4-5 years to make and cost hundreds of millions! Very few of these game will profitable, now what?

Why it would be like boycotting DVD in favor if vhs. Why not fight to make sure legislation gets passed now that protects digital libraries instead of being mad technology kept moving forward. I think the Mario Kart Lego is to line up with the release of the new Mario Kart game, Mario Kart X on the Switch 2. It’s likely that Lego would release after the launch of the game to ride the hype wave so it’s fairly safe to say now that Switch 2 is coming out Q1 2025 and that Mario Kart X will be a launch title.

This is what I have been telling people when the fanboys say "Gamepass sucks, id rather own my games" i always tell them Sonys terms of service in 2 different section makes it clear that purchased content does not mean ownership and they reserve the right to revoke access to any game, at any time, for any reason. So why pay 70 per game when you can get an entire library for less than buying 3 games a year at 70

You would lose that lawsuit. Before you purchase anything from Steam, Sony, or any other game retailer online, they tell you specifically that you are only purchasing access to the software, which you therefore do not own the software. What you do own however, is the license which gives you the right to access the software. You're paying $70 for the license.

Making a Metroid series or movie would be difficult because I think that out of all of Nintendo's franchises, not everyone has a clear view of what should Metroid's story be about. Many people in the West compare Metroid to the Alien series, but making a show about Samus being trapped in a planet fighting aliens alone may end up being kind of boring in the long-run, but everybody hated the way she interacted with Adam in Other M Honestly, I think a Metroid series/movie should take inspiration on the 80s anime and manga that actually inspired the games' creation, I'm thinking about something similar to Space Adventure Cobra, Crusher Joe and Dirty Pair

This is related to the Comment of the Day - It is funny, as we did really well with our business during the pandemic. We ran a small post office, but I think due to being one of the only stores open, people in the area being mainly older people who wanted to post things to family members, and a lot of online businesses setting up with those selling and needing to post things, we did insanely well. As well as having the store attached to the post office, we couldn't believe it. We're struggling again now, but we knew it wouldn't last and never expected it to. How did they?

We allowed and encouraged this digital future to take shape We should have pushed back HARD on single player experiences needing an online connection. And we should have DEMANDED ( with our money) that Baldurs Gate 3 have a physical release available day one. Same with Alan Wake. And we NEVER should have tried Fortnite, just to see what the hype was about. Lack of standards and Self Discipline is getting us, exactly what we deserve. Thankfully my emulators are stocked with roms and my modded systems are still kicking because I got a feeling I’ll be going dark as a customer soon.

I wouldn't really call it disappearing, but all physical things are subject to physical forces. The digital landscape has it's set of digital forces that decide how you can use your things, like you can only have one primary console with no real ability to share your games (unless you count Steam Library sharing.)

Something to think about is also how a revoked license game will be shown in your library and if it will be visible at all. This might cause alot of headache for people with huge digital libraries. I mean you propably don't even realize when games you bought are gone until you try to play them. Sometimes you might not even remember what games you already bought or what games used to be in your backlog.

Nintendo, the true definition of F around and find out. Also, Gamers should be used to this, we don't own any of these digital games that we have been building since the 360. We are RENTING, plain and simple. Sad, but true. We need a change.

In terms of the 'digital future', it seems everyone has been talking about it for a few years now, and has basically talked about, and complained, about all it entails...so it means that everyone knew what it was going to bring. So I find it interesting when folks start to see the effects of something that they KNEW was coming, they act as if they are shocked at what they are seeing. Kind of like the weather man telling you you're going to get 2 inches of rain, then being surprised when it starts raining.

Stellar Blade is not the first time this has happened. It happened once years ago with COD Black Ops. For a few hours you could buy the full game for the price of an upgrade ($10). I did buy it. A few weeks later SONY revoked the licence.

I saw a used copy of Paper Mario TTYD complete in box with manual at GameStop for $40 years ago and I still kick myself for not picking it up. At the time, I though it was “too expensive” 🤦‍♂️

I've always been someone who wanted the best picture and sound possible. So when Thousand Year Door released on Gamecube, I had a Gamecube with component cables that allowed it to output a 480p signal. Progressive scan was that time period's equivalent to 60fps, or HDR; games that were output with a progressive scan mode just looked better. If it had not been for that, I would definitely be picking up The Thousand Year Door on Switch, day 1. Its an amazing game, I just don't think the somewhat improved picture clarity justifies a new purchase, for me that is.

Not at all important but series of sets in LEGO are called 'Themes'! It wouldn't be wrong to call them something different but that's how they have the different categories listed on the website too. I've seen some people hoping that they end up making Mario themed minifigures to go with the new sets but time will tell if they do it or not. I'd also be interested to see how their Animal Crossing sets have been doing, and if that rumored Zelda Deku Tree set comes to fruition!

I'm starting to see people that have consoles refuse to pay to play online. I'm wondering if other people are seeing this also. Is the paywall starting to affect game sales because of economic reasons? But I know multiple people with next-gen consoles that will not get online service because they don't want to pay a monthly fee.

Sometimes I get sad thinking about getting older and at some point not being able to experience new games anymore… until news like Sony removing licenses or other stuff in the last two weeks emerge and show me, i’ve lived in the golden age of gaming and it’s only going down.

I haven’t tried to emulate TTYD in forever, the last time it did it crashed almost immediately. I don’t even think I was able to ever get past the title screen. I’m sure it’s fixed by now but it was the only game I couldn’t get dolphin to run.

Maybe the next Mario Kart will be a cross gen title. They'd benefit from the current Switch install base while also having a version on Switch 2 that they can support for the entirety of its life cycle. May not be launch, but could make sense for it to happen within the first year.

In other news, the Multiversus servers will be coming back May 28th. It's surprising that it wasn't completely shuttered, but I guess it makes a bit of sense considering it's Warner Brothers'only other live service game in production besides Suicide Squad: Kill The Arkham Franchise.

Mario day was way better than I was expecting, but I called it out that the thousand year door and Luigi’s mansion 2 HD would be revealed and renew game boy games dropped in Dr Mario, Mario golf Mario tennis and Dr Mario is nostalgic but I was that dumb kid that swapped it for double Dragon I’m looking back. I wish I had kept Dr Mario LOL

Gotta say, kinda respect Nintendo for leaning into the old Machiavellian method of making an example to get the rest to fall in line. For the next Mario Kart game perhaps they could do a "Mario Kart 9 Invitational", where they bring in other charters from other games. Say Sonic, Pac-Man, Megaman, etc.. Like what they did with the Mario Kart Arcade game.
