Over the summer I pulled out my GameCube from the attic for my 6y/o to play on. Since then I started collecting games and accessories for it again. I stumbled in to one hell of a find a few weeks ago. The intec square screen that makes the GameCube portable for 20.00. My best find thus far. Im up to 34 games and I will continue to get more games and have fun with my daughter. She actually prefers the GameCube over the switch at the moment.

Moving to PC in 1997 .........i still bought a Dreamcast and PS2 at launch, and then a GameCube a few years after it launched for the exclusives. Playing games online with a monitor was a big step up from the consoles, but I still went back to these consoles a lot when friends came over the house and at the time gamecube was the best at couch co op

I was a gamecube owner back in the day. PS2 just didn't really interested because I had a PC. All those hours playing the heck out of Melee, Mario Kart, Turok Evolution/Nightfire, Mario party 6, Mario Strikers, X-men Legends with my bros. And all those hours playing Sunshine, Zelda WW and TP, Metroid Prime 2, FZero Gx and so on on my own. What a great console. Unfortunately I lost most of my collection through the years, but I started to get some games back and adding new ones. I also modded with hdmi mods and hacks along an Mcable, and got a gameboy player back. My objective is also to have all my games I want complete in box. There are still plenty games to collect but I'm steadily getting there step by step. It's expensive but fun at the same time. Good luck to gamecube collectors of 2021 like me !

My Gamecube story is like yalls. I ignored it completely in its heyday. I was all PS2 and PS3. It wasn’t til I met my sons mother that she had a Wii and I discovered it was backwards compatible. That Wii brought me back to a time where games were fun and made me happy and things weren’t so serious. Later gave up the Wii and got a Gamecube when I picked up a Wii U. Been collecting since. Hopefully some day I can pickup ChibiRobo, Gotcha Force, and Cubivore. Great video guys and fun stream last night. How about that Balor/Reign finish? Made me face palm.

I somewhat agree with that “feeling” you’re talking about… but at the same time, a lot the games on GC felt like beefed up versions of N64 games. Don’t get me wrong, I bought a GC with my very first credit card but it felt like Nintendo wasn’t taking any risks in that generation. The only really new IPs that stand out to me are Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin. Granted, those are some BANGERS of IPs but, yeah, it didn’t feel like the massive leap that occurred with the N64 or the SNES. Having said that, I rarely go back to N64 these days while Gamecube games hold up really well.

PS2 was the ONLY console here in Malaysia at the time. In fact the PS2 was the very first console officially launched in this country. I only got into GameCube when I experimented with the Dolphin emulator, and finally got the real hardware early this year. Got a console with a broken disc drive for around $30, and I upgraded it with a GCLoader and Carby.

Ironically I was more into Gamecube in the 6th gen than I was PS2, but I was mostly an Xbox guy that gen. I think what held Nintendo down for me during that period was having a live-in GF that was a Smash Bros/Mario Kart DD/ Mario Golf & Tennis fanatic lol. Also, giving Gamecube games a little HD spit-polish running them through Dolphin was and continues to be an eye-opener. These games are easy as pie to go back to in 2021 once you get them running good on modern displays. It's all in the controls, gameplay and artwork, those are the qualities in a game that transcend generations. Long live the Gamecube!

Cool video. I've been a Nintendo loyalist from the get-go (though I eventually embraced Sony), so I had a Gamecube. I was 24 when it came out, out of college. What you remind me of is that, yes, the Gamecube had this perception that it was kiddie, but much of that had to do with marketing. Sony and Microsoft took a page out of Sega's book in the 16-bit era and decided to paint themselves as edgy and Nintendo as kiddie. By the time the Gamecube came out, there was no question that I was going to get one. I did have a Playstation, but I did not go out and get a PS2 until the PS3 was coming out. Honestly, the main reason I, and many of us, ever played “favorites” is that we couldn’t afford to play every console we wanted. Right now, I'm in my 40s and I went back and chased down all the Gen6 and Gen7 consoles, plus a few others. I couldn’t before, but I can now.
@GamingOffTheGrid

I loved the gamecube so much that I thought whatever nintendo would make next was going to be incredible. I got the wii on launch day, and a year later, I was so upset with how poorly implemented the motion controls were that I sold it for a 360. Then when they called their next console the wii u, no wonder it barely sold 10 million. Thankfully the switch got them back on track to what makes Nintendo great.

I remember the first time I played the GameCube was in 2003 when I did a semester abroad in Scotland. I hadn’t played a console game since FFVII on the PS1. The Mario sunshine commercial was such a terrible decision by Nintendo. I remember refusing to play or buy the game strictly because of the commercial and always making fun of it in school anytime a kid brought the game up. It wasn’t until I got a Wii and happened to just buy a lot of GameCube games because of the Wii backwards compatibility that I finally played sunshine and seen how great of a game it is. I remember when hardcore Sony Playstation fanboys would be in denial that the PS2 was less powerful than even the Gamecube and that the only thing that really held the Gamecube back from getting more 3rd party support was using their own proprietary mini optical disc(that only holds up to 1.46GB of storage capacity) as their physical media for games rather than DVDs which PS2 and OG Xbox used.

Also everyone that raves about the controller, I had two minor gripes with it, the yellow C-stick didn't work as well as a second conventional thumbstick and the shoulder buttons felt kind of spongey.

So I never owned a GameCube during the ps2 era. Once the 360 came out, a buddy of my dads bought one and got rid of his original Xbox and his GameCube which were given to me. And I absolutely loved the GameCube when I had it then and everytime I get rid of one I end up with another one. As it stands I have some of the more expensive games for the GameCube and I just recently modded my GameCube so I could preserve my discs and still play the games I wanna play. I work in a new n retro video game store, I get late 20's early 30 's year old couple with a baby come in and spent $300 to $400 buying a Gamecube and a few games but I get 20 to 25 year kids come in 3 to 5 in a group and spend $250 to $300 on just PS2 games total amongst them. So I would agree with the nostalgic vibes of the GC, I can't explain why kids are buying and playing PS2 games in big numbers that where literally made when they where. I dont know why I'm saying this except maybe just to say that somebody is taking time to teach appreciation to tje youth.

Totally agree about wanting a more mature oriented console during the sixth generation. I had been a Nintendo kid my whole life and even got a GC back then. Since this isn't a "here's our collection" vid, I won't type up my entire collection (I wouldn't want to do all that typing anyway). But here's a few of the perks. First off, this was a Zelda lover's dream console. Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition (Zelda, Zelda II, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask with a Wind Waker Demo all on one disk), Ocarina of Time (with Master Quest), Four Swords Adventures, Wind Waker and the best version of Soul Calibur hands down with Link taking his place among the cast. Other dingers: Smash Bros Melee, Skies of Arcadia, Mortal Kombat (Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon), Metroid Prime. GameCube did have a really nice library. I first GameCube was the platinum colored one. I had to replace it with the generic purple one when the disk drive stopped working. Then when the Wii came out I sold my purple one and now I just use the Wii whenever I want to play GameCube games. You were spot on when you were talking about not having to provide the excuses "back in the day" or "the influence it had on the industry." These games are still good. Given a bit of an up-res, they wouldn't be out of place on today's consoles.

I was big into GC collecting in 2011-2015. Had to make my own rarity guide because even Nintendoage did not really have the info. Those were good times. Each console has its’ years of neglect before it becomes popular again, but I feel those “easy collecting windows” are getting smaller and smaller. For example Wii U prices never really bottomed out as low or for as long as the NES-GC era. Great job on the Nash/Hall sound byte btw!

@thevideogamebrothers3006 2 года назад
I went out and bought a GC in the summer of 2002. I ended up with 3 games - Mario, Metroid, and Zelda. I was also at the time in my life when I was too busy to play games, so I barely played these games even though I owned them (except for Mario Sunshine which I played quite a lot.) I have since gone back and played through many of the games I missed out on, and I have a whole new appreciation for the system. One thing that stands out in that generation is that the GC games, on average, look much prettier today than PS2 and Xbox games.

Was more ps2 guy, mainly for hackabity. Agree lack of dvd and being looked at as a "kids" system compared to PS2 and Xbox probably hurt it back then. nintendo has their roadmap. as long as they keep pushing out Mario/Zelda/pokemon games, even if you have to rebuy them for the 5th time, they'll keep succeeding. It's really crazy how some of their games hold value.

I literally got a Gamecube for the Resident Evil REmake. Smash Bros Melee, and Metroid Prime were nice bonuses, but the reason I even wanted one was to play the Resident Evil Remake. Honestly it's a shame that game never made it to the PS2 or Xbox. The bit of extra horsepower of the Xbox at the time could've had the game looking even sharper. That being said that's my best memories with the Gamecube is sitting there scared shitless playing REmake, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4.
@hepwo91222
@hepwo91222 2 года назад
did the XBox really have extra horsepower though? All the consoles back then were custom made, so the specs can be difficult to compare, but some of the best looking games of that generation were actually Gamecube games. PS2 and Dreamcast were clearly weaker than the Xbox or Gamecube in specs, but the custom made Gamecube hardware was plenty capable at the time.
@zclary923

@@hepwo91222 the differences between Gamecube and Xbox are pretty negligible honestly, but the Xbox did have a very slight edge graphically.
@hepwo91222
@hepwo91222 2 года назад
@@zclary923 it was apples to oranges in tech specs, I think the only notable advantage was disc space, but many games back then didn't take up that much memory, so most could fit onto one gamecube disc. But what was the best looking Xbox games? On gamecube I would go Twilight Princess, F-Zero GX, or RE4, as some of their best looking games. Not sure I can think of any Xbox games that looked better? RE4 at the time looked almost next gen at the time. THe PS2 version paled in comparison appearance wise.

Boys boys boys you got it all wrong. I was born in 1986 and I’ll tell u what the gamecube launch was like. Nobody cared about louigi cause everyone wanted resident evil REMAKE and Star Wars rouge squadron 2. The reason why it didn’t sell well is because all the Dreamcast haters were n64 owners who were skipping the Dreamcast and hyping and waiting for the ps2. That was gunna let them play all the ps1 games they missed out on cause they owned a n64 instead and time splitters the sequel to goldeneye 64 made from the same team feee radical and then when the gamecube came out the next year with the xbox they were broke and couldn’t buy both. Then, Soul Calibur 2 was the first multi platform game where the gamecube was the best version with Link and made people start buying gamecubes because at that time, resident evil 4 was announced and exclusive to gamecube

Not too sure about all of that, but you do make valid points. I think not having a Mario game as a launch title, like consumers & Nintendo fans were accustomed to, hurt them in the long run and when Super Mario Sunshine came out, it was a disappointment for many Mario fans. Not having the ability to play DVD’s did not help either coupled with key titles like Omnimusha, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto, and a realistic racing game of Gran Turismo caliber not being available just hurt the cause.

The GameCube Nintendo is my favorite all-time home console besides the Super Nintendo, SONY PS3, and Microsoft XBOX 360! The Sega Genesis isn’t too far behind as being another one of my favorites, just in the distance. It still saddens me that the GCN sold far less than the PS2 and about as much as the XBOX. Now, the demand for GCN games compared to PS2 and XBOX of the same generation is far greater. Maybe less hardware sold meant less games in quantity made causing this supply versus demand situation? Maybe gamers who have not bothered buying the GCN at the time of relevance are now going back and catching up with buying GCN games and hardware. Or, it could be that gamers who were not born at the time of that generation, are now wanting to see what the hype was all about and maybe they’ve played sequels to GCN games on more modern Nintendo home consoles and want to backtrack to games that are the predecessor to the games they own other other consoles? All I know is I got just about every GCN CIB, physically, I could possibly want minus a very small handful. I wish I could say the same for the SNES.

Had a PS2 in early 2001 and fortunately roommate got an Xbox on Launch later that year. Finally got the GC on sale at EB games in early 2005 with some Mario, Zelda, Metroid, RE, and Star Wars games that were exclusives in addition to a few others. Glad I held onto them because they are worth a bit now. Currently collecting for XB, PS2, and Wii since most are still pretty cheap unlike GC. I think it is a stroke of marketing genius how they essentially repackaged the GC and stole Sony's motion control idea from six axis then just rebranded it Wii and thus "winning" that generation with the most underpowered and inexpensive console by far after getting thier rears kicked with GC prior. Nintendo is a gaming staple that I am glad keeps thier core 3 exclusive franchises alive since the beginning. Looking forward to Metroid Dread here!
