I remember how mysterious and expansive the first animal crossing felt like -- what are these creepy gyroids I keep digging up? how did my brother get that cool k.k. slider song? why is apollo mad at me? A lot of this comes down to age differences -- playing as an adult vs as a kid -- but your point on this new game being a design simulator is spot on. It's not about these mysteries anymore. There's nothing to discover, only new coats of paint to work towards.

There was all of this build up to Brewster and NOTHING CAME FROM IT! There was nothing new or substantial or anything that wasn't expected. There's also more advertising for amiibo by looking content behind it. So lame. World building shouldn't be unlocked through pay-walls.

I think a big misconception is that a lot of young audiences or new people who are new to this franchise are presented to these kind of videos unable to derive and understand fully the concept of what an ‘animal crossing’ game is and might backlash. It seems Nintendo have fallen through that ladder of listening to their audiences focusing more on money due to new horizons being such a big success with its bright ‘designing’ mechanism this game lacks purity and the utopia of living with your animals I could sit here and list over 100 things from the older games that created what we call ‘animal crossing’ but New horizons failed to do that. P.S new horizons was an unfinished game while it took them one full year to complete half or more things that new leaf came with since launch

I think you’ve articulated well the reasons why I feel a little disconnected from ACNH. I liked your first video too, and after buying the DLC I hopes of rekindling my love for the world of AC, I am half satisfied. I definitely like the decorating aspect, but it still feels to me like there’s a disconnect between the HOW of the game and the WHY of the game. I have felt strongly for a while that the mechanics, while fundamentally pretty good, lack deeper context to give me the warm fuzzy feelings required to make all the decorating worth it. The #1 feature I want in this game is collaboration - I want to be able to have my friends build things on MY island, and vice versa. I would settle for villagers who felt like real people, but I think the game feels hollow due to the fact that friends visiting feels like 1) a hassle because of the silly convoluted dialogue of Dodo Airlines and 2) rather pointless as it’s just a visual tour and nothing more. It’s like, ok I collected all the things and designed my paradise and it’s beautiful…. NOW WHAT??

I feel like the problem is like there is a lack of "Goals" and like "more stuff to do". The best example is Pocket Camp. It still had a Goal List of things to do and if you do them you always get rewarded for different items.

I found entertainment in previous game with my villagers because I never played the games with anyone because they all thought the games was boring. Sometimes I find new horizons boring and I'm no decorater I'm still figuring out what I want my town flag to be and my island either a town or country town 🤔

Unfortunately I have to agree on all levels here. I miss the perceived depth of the old games, building relationships with villagers, and even just the small feature of them running over when they saw me to request a favor did wonders in creating a sense of community in the old games. Now it just feels like my island is a diorama with lifeless villager dolls I've collected. Also your content is top tier and I hope you get the recognition you deserve soon!

I agree completely. I really wanted to like ACNH, but I got to the point where it just felt like I was “doing chores”. I don’t really care so much about the decorating/design aspect, and there’s no narrative to speak of, so I haven’t played in months.

Same. It gets so boring because the villagers do not give me tasks as often as they used to and the villagers are the thing I liked the most... I am not good at decorating and dont want to focus on it so it got boring too fast for me :/ They feel too lifeless and unimportant to me for a new ANIMAL crossing game.

As someone whose first Animal Crossing game is New Horizons, I’ll definitely agree with this video and the previous one. As you said, it seems the team behind this game has shifted from community simulator to decorating simulator. It works for new fans but definitely not for old ones, I can imagine. To add on, I love the game, but that’s because I didn’t have any expectations and only bought the game based on my perception of it from online - an island decorating sim - and knew that that’s the type of game I like to play. The reason why the game works for me is only *because* I never expected anything from NPC or villager interactions in the first place, and because my main enjoyment came from thinking of ways to customize my island and interact with other players in the community. When I think back on my time with the game, pretty much none of the memorable stuff came from the community aspect (since I ended up looking at the wiki before playing the game and saw that all the villagers would be repeating personality types lol), and my enjoyment came from the decorating and fandom aspect. I find myself getting burnt out with social sims so I don’t really think I would enjoy the previous games of the franchise, but it is very troubling that the shift in focus in ACNH has caused such polarizing opinions in the first place.

Love this video! The situation with New Horizons reminds me a lot of the Sims 4. Both games released at launch missing a lot of the features of the games before them. These features then get drip fed as updates, or expansion packs in the sims case, but lacking the dept of the original games. Both games lacking a lot of the charm the games before them had, with more emphasis on design than engaging gameplay. Like the examples you mentioned in the video, Kapp'n's island but no minigames, Brewster but no part-time job. Another big one for me is the holidays. For Christmas you no longer have to talk to your villagers and find out what kind of present they want. For Halloween you don't have to figure out what scares each villager to try and get the lollipop candy and the exclusive creepy set. Animal crossing was never a challenging game but i feel like there is no challenge at all with the New Horizons. The only "challenge" comes from grinding DIY ingredients or bulk crafting items etc which gets repetitive quite quickly. Villagers won't even leave on their own accord anymore and are way too friendly. It's a bit stepford-wives like. I still enjoyed New Horizons as a game but it didn't have the same impact as New Leaf or Wild World had for me.

Spot on video! I definitely feel like the game gets a bit soulless after awhile. I also think they missed a lot of opportunities to make the multiplayer experience a lot more worthwhile. Adding things like mini-games would have added a lot to that side of the experience. It also doesn't help that Nintendo Switch Online prices have raised. It really discouraged me from wanting to renew that membership and play with my friends at all.

I've been playing since wild world, and I agree completely. New leaf is my all time favorite and I was SO excited for new horizons. I played it for a long time but it just feels so soulless. The villagers aren't unique at all anymore. You can give them whatever you want as a gift and they'll always be happy about it! I get they got rid of resetti so kids wouldn't cry, but they didn't have to get rid of all personality from villagers. I love how ac games work in real time and let you experience new things every day. I mean from the start when they did the bunny day event and it lasted forever?? that was so odd!! like it should only be one day. I feel like a lot of their problems probably come from trying to control how people play. Like not wanting time travelers. Or in new leaf I loved to beetle hunt, but to do that you pretty much ruin the mini game island so only beetles spawn. I wonder if that bothered them so they made islands you can't do that too, because you can't beetle hunt like that anymore! Just things like that. idk if it's an unpopular opinion or if people will slowly get bored of this update too, but I just hope they don't cater to the decorating crowd over the original fanbase. Or even just think that this is what we all want because it sold so well, when that was in big part due to the pandemic!

For me, the thing that drags me down on the current state of ACNH: (1) No more major updates/DLC. The finality of it all is depressing when it still has so much potential. (2) The music. Its so sad to see that even if Nintendo actually updated the game, they would put whatever content they made behind a paywall. I came from new leaf, and when I first started new horizons I thought it was awesome. Until I realized how much the game lacked going against the previous games of animal crossing. I'm so tired of going to any of my villagers to talk, often having the same dialogue despite them being a "Different character". The Nookling brothers don't even get to have their fully expanded shop anymore. Even brewster is stuck as just an addon to the museum and not with his own Café out in the Island (Which Isabelle admits being big). We lost so many NPC characters as well, they can only be seen in the DLC now. I just don't understand the need to put DLC'S in Animal crossing in the first place, it's almost greedy behavior coming from a multi-million dollar company. Plus, their games are expensive enough as it is.
@saturn580
@saturn580 Год назад
I've only played Wild World myself. As much as I enjoyed it, I found it didn't take long before I'd worn out all the villager's dialogue. Quite baffling as they didn't even need voice acting or cut-scenes. All Nintendo had to do is add more text to vastly improve the longevity of the game. Sad to see they seem to be going backwards in New Horizons. They've forgotten that the villagers have always been the heart and soul of Animal Crossing.

I'm concerned about this game going into 2022 considering that we just now got the 2.0 update and while I am impressed that the game is revived I don't think many people are going to keep playing this game by next year. It sounds crazy to say but there are things in the game that still needs improving like the crafting system and the online which is still lackluster. It will be a long wait until the next AC mainline game which who knows when because typically new AC games tend to be on new systems. Animal Crossing New Leaf still had longevity in it to keep it going and since all the content was at launch it still kept going for years. New Horizons however had weird pacing in the updates considering that it came out in 2020 and I know there is an argument to be made that the pandemic affected the development, but part of me is wondering what if they were delay the game to come out later in 2020 instead of early. Maybe then the game would be finished and they would still have time to make updates. Despite how people feel about this game I will not lie and say that Animal Crossing New Horizons has probably the weakest longevity in history. I know many old AC games are still being played to this day because its charming and you can always go back to them because they had more things to do. New Horizons just feels like all you're doing is designing islands, then when you're finished its like you force yourself to restart to do it all over again. It just gets to the point where it becomes not so fun anymore. When you seen all the villagers, seen all the content it had to offer, its hard to get back into the game even after taking a long break. For me personally I will still keep playing the game but, I am not sure how longer I will keep playing. There is only so much I can do in this game that I don't really have the time or patience to even find all the new DIYS and Items, because of the RNG. This game is great for what it is, but when you seen everything in the game its like you tell yourself "Eh whats the point its just the same as ever" I may have to put this game down in 2022. Its not something I want to do, but I am kinda reaching that same feeling again. I don't maybe I'm just weird.
@SimpleBean
@SimpleBean 2 года назад
I think that’s where so many fans landed. Like it’s fine for what it is and actually a very decent decorating sim. But I think also it was the turning point for fans who really just wanted a focus on the community building aspect. Which is kind of ironic since we’re all supposed to be on this deserted island together.
@DragonZelda
@DragonZelda 2 года назад
Hi. I started playing in 2022 so I'm fairly new. I definitely agree that ACNH is about self expression. With 2.0 release, a lot of players have restarted their island and play with new furniture/themes. I like the new furniture they added in 2.0 and Harv's island is helpful in terms of customizing furniture and purchasing bush/crops. I guess Nintendo knows the community is not as active as it used to be, so they have to add Harv's Island in case player can't trade. Still very annoying that you can only order 5 furniture per day. I'm still struggling to decorate my island and I feel like there is not much to do after I fully decorated my island except restarting. Villagers are very bland as a lot of people companied. I don't feel connected to any of them and I think they are replaceable. I still try to gain their friendship so I can get their photos and sell their photos. I won't spend hundreds of tickets on villager/dreamie hunting.
@DragonZelda
@DragonZelda 2 года назад
I really hate to say my villagers are useless and annoying. But everytime I finally got an interesting new furniture from Nook's or balloons, they asked to purchase/trade with low amount of money. I'm trying my best to decorate the island and they simply don't care.
@mlutra5676
@mlutra5676 2 года назад
I agree with what you've said I this video. For the most part I haven't really felt much affected by the update, other than being able to collect the art, accessories and rugs that I want more efficiently (although the npcs on harv's island only seem to change their stock each week), customising a wider range of items, grabbing a coffee and searching for gyroids to add to my designated music room 😁 However, the change that is most obvious during my playing is more frustrating for me than anything else. I don't really spend that much time inside my house in acnh, so when I do most of the time I'll be rearranging things or using my storage. This is now often interrupted and not as enjoyable for me due to the introduction of villagers entering your home without any warning in advance or option to decline. I feel bad for not wanting villagers around but I prefer to bump into them around my island and chat, as I don't often go into their houses anyway. One time I was in a room other than the main room that you first walk into when entering your home, and luckily the villager wanting to visit thought I must not be home and left, after I decided to hide in the room and not go to the door like they asked me to. Otherwise I have to wait until they're done inspecting my plants, commenting on my turkey day chair, or sitting on the floor instead of said chair, and finally leave. Atleast I get a free pear from them though, whoopee! 🤣 Edit: I felt like I'd left this as more of a rant than anything else, which is not my intention. Sorry that this became such a long comment! So to conclude: the major update to me felt more like lots of little things that seemed like they'd make a big difference, but really they're just lots of small, subtle changes that didn't affect the big picture. I didn't buy the dlc as I don't feel like that's what I enjoy most when playing acnh, so there wasn't a point in getting it, but I think that atleast will satisfy a lot of players who enjoy decorating homes and things like that. Making your island or home look just right feels like a large part of the animal crossing community, but the relationships with villagers seem to have been forgotten a bit, as they still feel repetitive and hollow to me, and the efforts made to improve this just don't agree with me. :)
@SimpleBean
@SimpleBean 2 года назад
I totally get this. In previous games they are least made a date to visit usually. So you knew what time they would drop by. I can see how this might be a bit intrusive for some players. It just highlights some of the things that went wrong with the social aspect of the game

For a game called animal crossing the animals are pretty lack lustre they feel more like an after thought when there supposed to be what keeps you coming back to the game ,I love all the designing you can do in the game I think they should keep that I know people won’t agree, but considering how many people complained about the past games lack of customisability for your town I understand why they put such a big focus on it , only being able to plant one tree a day was really annoying especially when a villager moved there house and destroyed it , I feel like they could get round this to balance the game and make more villagers perhaps tell you what they would like around the island , and also have mini games like ping pong prehaps or cooking mama style games and just adding more personalised dialog to each villager ( we already have so many reactions in the game it wouldn’t even have to add new animations for the villagers for there reactions)

I feel like the series went through a similar development like the sims games. Older games used to have worse graphics but were much more fun and interesting than the newer ones. Now most of the people that buy these games are mostly girls that like decorating and building houses which wasnt the main feature of the series. Its kind of similar in NH. The features for building are so advanced but the game has no soul. I guess I have to wait another 10 years for the next game if they dont want to give any other updates.

I liked the update and the fact they listened to so many fan requested features. I preferred they did DLC instead of a different game like on the 3DS. I just think they killed the game's longevity by completely putting aside the idea of doing additional substantial updates and DLC, and don't kid yourself, there's still plenty they could have done. New Leaf and New Horizons were 7 years or so apart. If this is the same, we're looking at around 5 years until we get a new game. 5 years of nothing in the very competitive digital era of video games.

However I’d rather play something like Story of Seasons or Stardew valley for that. The update was nice but imo we shouldn’t have needed to wait almost 2 years into the games life for it. Worst part is Nintendo said that’s it for content updates. It’s not an awful update but most of what was in the update was in older games in the series to begin with. All in all NH isn’t bad. What if Nintendo isn't fixing many things and adding things we've had previously in games, because they want to hold on to those for the next game. Now that the player base has increased dramaticly. I mean think about it, they would make way more money making a new game fixing everything and adding a lot of mayor stuff. Than just giving it out for free. Just a thought that i had.

At NH i know i can stay away for 2 years and the villagers dont give a damn. Also think that they have made a big mistake with the Shops , the new island market is ok but complete after 1 week. We all want and wanted a upgrade to the shops that exsist and a Roost stand-alone Shop (and maybe work there again).

Like I wasn’t aware until a few months ago that the Able Sisters had a backstory or how you could create deeper relationships with your villagers. Maybe you could in New Leaf. Honestly I was hyped but lost it after completing the dlc and I felt the dlc was more like the game I expected from new horizons. A build your home/ getaway. In this one you could take classes, eat at the dinner, visit the restaurant and bother the employees, visit the shop, get hurt and go to the hospital and rock out when kk slider visits on his floating stage while you and all villagers dress like ravers and dance at the beach like a paloosa. That’s what I wanted. Yet it wasn’t that. It feels so empty. I want to talk and have mini episodes with my villagers or events. More festivals, more mini games. That’s all. Take the custom designs, take them dumb complicated terraform, just give me the community.

I think we all can agree with while the decorating aspect of ACNH was a cool addition(still had its issues) but still something welcomed to the series, the soul and charm of what people loved about the previous titles are not in NH. I see that Nintendo is taking a different approach to beloved game franchises: Mario, Zelda, etc rather it be to entice young/new players to invest into these games that have been around for decades or new devs coming into the scene and taking the place of the elders because well they are getting old and wanna retire. Or it's a combination of both 🤷🏾‍♀🤷🏾‍♀ change is good but also scary. While it's fine to try new things and take your series to new territory to bring in new players and keep the franchise relevant, don't take away what made said franchise a beloved addition to the gaming world. I think if ACNH had focused more on content and kept the personalities of our beloved animal neighbors, players wouldn't have dropped this game so quickly as they did. ACNH wasn't a disaster, however it wasn't incredible either and definitely lacks that replay factor that previous installments have. I find myself going back to New Leaf and Pocket Camp rather than New Horizons.

Me too ! No soul left for me. I can go weeks and not even look at this game. I don't like decorating on such a large extent..cooking is pretty much a waste. I got my island up to 4 stars but am stuck there cause I'm just horrible at terra forming my island. When villagers drop something now they tell u who it belongs to. I miss New Leaf so much. Have started other games like Stardew valley..ok game nur so dependent on farming! I'm back to my turn based role playing games like Live a Live and have gotten into Breath of the Wild. I don't like my villagers in ACNH either..but to take all that time to villager hunt doesn't seem worth it. Maybe I'm just lazy..I don't know. Never felt this way playing New Leaf, but am not going back to that after spending bookoo bucks on my switch oled. Hopefully the next Animal Crossing will have more of a focus on villagers, dialog with them, and of course improving ur town/ island without needing a degree in architecture. Just hope I'm around to see it lol 😆. Thanks for listening you all

Based. The fact foods don't add stamina or something to make island building less tedious was definitely a missed opportunity. It being so tedious just drives me away from the game at times when I feel like decorating. I prefer the lifesim elements of animal crossing , but atleast make island building a little more enjoyable than frustrating..

This entire game was doomed from the beginning. As soon as I saw that this game was going to be a 'games as a service' game I was skeptical. Turns out I was right. The whole game still feels unfinished and doesn't feel like an animal crossing game in my opinion. Speaks volumes when I can play ACNL for 100x more time and still not bored than ACNH. I feel it's a misguided sequel personally but I don't know. Hopefully they can improve with the next game but I'm skeptical and with games like Splatoon 3 worrying me ATM we'll have to wait and see if they deliver ig.

I agree with everything. The game was lovely, but it was a design game with an animal crossing texture. Once I made my island “perfect” to how I wanted it to look and got through the happy home DLC, I stopped playing, because what else is there to do? I play the old games monthly and it feels like coming home. I load up ACNH, look at my island, talk to no one, and turn it off for the next several months. If I could buy another cartridge to get a new island, I would. I have multiple cartridges/memory cards for the older games so I could start over without losing my old game. But I don’t want to delete my island just to play again, so it collects dust. :/

I remember I was the most excited about cooking and farming when I saw the update trailer. I’m a sucker for farming simulators and I was so excited at the thought of gifting my homemade dishes to my villagers on the island. But I was thoroughly disappointed with how rare it would be to find new recipes and the fact that when I did give my villagers food, they never ate it. It was instead used as a furniture item collecting dust on their bookshelves and messing with whatever layout I previously made for them. Not to mention I still couldn’t craft more than one item at a time which made cooking feel tedious and painful after a while. I felt betrayed over how the one feature I was looking forward to the most was being used as mere decoration and not something I could have fun with. And then I found stardew valley a year later and it’s taken over my entire life oh my god that game is so much better for me

You did a great job clearly conveying your points here! It seems like New Horizons didn't know what it wanted to be at first, so it felt directionless and soulless after a bit. And honestly, I'd argue they didn't even achieve their self-expression goal if they still haven't realized how essential a multi-crafting system is for this type of game lol. As a fellow content creator, I appreciate the effort you put into your live footage as well and is something I dabbled with but want to commit more to. I need a professional looking studio like yours! One thing you could do to improve in editing is zoom in and out of your live footage to keep the footage moving. It's one of those not obvious things that's difficult to unsee once you realize the trick. Folding Ideas does this well, as an example. I look forward to seeing what you pursue next!
@SimpleBean
@SimpleBean 2 года назад
Haha thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback. I agree that New Horizons didn’t hit the mark even in the self expression category although players have made some incredible things in the game. I highly recommend live footage (mostly so I don’t have to try and find the perfect game footage 😅) I have considered using more zoonoses though I’ve been nervous about doing that since I only record in 1080 instead of 4K and didn’t want to lose clarity. I know most people watch on some sort of handheld device though so perhaps I shouldn’t worry about it too much
@DesignFrameCaseStudies
@DesignFrameCaseStudies 2 года назад
@@SimpleBean That's a good point. I don't know if Folding Ideas still does this because it's twice the work, but he would record his live footage twice at two different zooms so he wouldn't lose quality. Alternatively, and I believe there are videos on this and I hope I'm not misremembering, but I believe you can record at 2K or 4K but export the finished video at 1080p, so you won't lose any quality for zooms and such. That's probably a much better idea than recording everything twice haha.

The update alone would not have been enough for me if that was the only thing Nintendo added. Fortunately, the DLC covered a lot of aspects that I desired since day one. I enjoy so much designing houses because NOW it's easy, the way it was always meant to be. All the items in all the colors, expand the size of the house to your liking, partition walls, the exterior building tools SHOULD have been ported to the main island, but anyways... It's also a shame that they didn't fix the damned crafting system. Love cooking in games, specially when food looks as good as in here, but it loses its appeal very fast because if you want to cook in bulk you STILL CANNOT do it. It's not perfect, but for me it gave me a good reason to come back to the game. As always good video!

I compare ACNH to WoW's Warlords of Draenor often. Brilliant Visuals, brilliant marketing and overall a good bit of fun, the issue they both have is, they dont fit very well into their own genre of games. The lack of Character development, realistic humanoid features, god-like customizable abilties, endless grinding for items and above all: The lack of 'soul' ACNH has left me almost never really wanting to retry the game becuase I dont see them filling in this void. Im happy with New Leaf and Original Animal Crossing.

I like animal crossing and I like designing but tbh I think AC is no longer for me. It feels like the sims but animals and awkward mobile game limitations. I do not like mobile games and the sims. I liked new leaf and loved having a weird but charming town much like my fantasized one and how the villagers had their own personality. Sure they weren’t rude but I liked the spunk and at times back handed comments since it does happen. But now they feel like I’m talking to a kid who’s forced to socialize by their parents on a family dinner when talking to villagers. The same has many good things. But no amount of HD models will fix how unless you have hyperfixation and can play make believe well the game is quite boring. I liked the dlc and how it had me working and having a relationship with the visitors and co workers while getting me to think outside the box. The DLC Dev team did so well on it. Why couldn’t the main game be as fun?
@snappy4368
@snappy4368 2 года назад
I know this comment is late to the party, but honestly, from the standpoint of someone who has put probably hundreds of hours into the first game, this game just doesn’t do it for me. Nothing totally interesting happens in this game, and honestly at some points in this game I question weather or not it’s worth going on, as there is just not a lot to do, and some days I don’t want to log on cuz it’s predictable what is gonna happen. The first game was spontanious and every day and night new exciting things would always happen. I do agree honestly, that the villagers are lack luster in there personalities, and are no fun to talk to. And where the hell did doing things for the villagers go? I loved that feature so much! The music also is terrible, and does not sound like animal crossing music to me at all, and I find my self listening to older soundtracks from previous games over the new ones, while I’m playing the game lol. Also, island decorating is grindy and hard, and it feels like a chore more then somthing I can enjoy. Also, I noticed the numerous shop upgrades you could get are go e, and ugh! I hate it so much, because I makes getting furniture even more of a pain then it already is. Also, why the hell do my tools need to break? It feels more like a inconvenience rather then a challenge in the game. Now, I’m not saying new horizons is awful, cuz there are alot of feature in it I do enjoy and think are fantastic entry’s to the series, but those are some of my problems. As for the 2.0 update, it honestly didn’t really save the game, but just add more features that added on to the kinda boring gameplay.

I never thought in a animal crossing game Id feel stressed while playing it, i have to force myself to log into this game to try and convince myself that's its for me but it's not. AC has always been a game about life simulation and relaxing. This game strips almost all those aspects. Collecting DIY and endless things to trap you in this "you have to be creative loop" doesnt make me want to play nor engage with the content, since its become so competitive. And i play AC to chill. I honestly don't think it's very doable to add much more with the relationship aspects of the game without making a whole new one with a whole new system built around it. It's a lot easier to add more design stuff in a pre-existing game with new furniture, plants, etc, than it is to add more things to do with your villagers. Just based on game to game I would say that they've been slowly moving away from the importance of relationships, New Horizons game being the worst offender. Villagers are often seen more as accessories to your island than member of the community. Unfortunately, it's really not looking like relationships going to be something they're going to lean into in future games unless they do a complete 180.

I've wanted to always get into the animal crossing series but always was afraid to speak my mind on new horizons everyone and their mother seems to love it but I have found videos of people talking about past entries and how this new one has lost the soul of what makes animal crossing animal crossing I haven't played much of the series all I've played is a little bit of new leaf, most of time was new horizon few days ago and I emulated the gamecube original played up until Nook gives you free reign to work on paying him off. In that time yeah the camera is a bit dated going from screen to screen but right off the bat the town seems way bigger and it's a Gamecube game there is way more villagers to interact with the villagers feel way more unique in their dialogue you can actually do Jobs for the villagers and zero crafting and so no need to grind for materials to make tools that break all the time. Based on this games beginning and the new games beginning the games are nothing alike all most like this is a spin off of animal crossing vs a new animal crossing game. I've seen vids where fans say the loved the other games but hate this one and they get commets telling them the series just isn't for them when that is false since the loved all the previous games. New Horozien felt like there was nothing to do all I would do is come on first day grab all weeds and fruit crafting grind craft grind fish hand in some stuff I didn't really feel like I was interacting with the villagers at all which is a major part of these games is doing stuff for the town and the villagers it just feels like grinding with no pay off and when the grinding is done it's like well what do I do now shut the game down until tomorrow comes so I can grind some more and not interact with the villagers at all. Then i get to the point where the musuem won't take any creatures until it's built which was the only thing that I was actually somewhat having fun with finding new creatures and turning them in like I was progressing and moving the game forward then it's like well now you can't today and you can't tomorrow because that's when construction starts only after another day then can you progress it more I had no more weeds to pull I'm sorry pulling 1000 weeds is stupid and overkill but I had nothing to grind the rocks were empty my trees had no more apples to grind, I couldn't hand in creatures until the dumb building was built yeah I could fish and try and find creatures for hours until I got sick of it and stock piled them until I could but I didn't want to I wanted to do something else. but again nothing to do so shut game off and wait until tomorrow to do more stuff no weeds or apples came back so I can't do that still can't turn in creatures until next day now they want 30 of each wood and 30 iron nuggets which ther's enough trees for wood but not enough rocks for iron so I didn't get enough iron. Got a ticket that was given to me to go to an island and don't think I got what I needed I was just shy a few and now the only way to do that again is i can't recall bells or miles but I'm not going to spend bells and miles to just keep grinding stuff again out of stuff to do so wait agian at that point I wasn't having fun and gave up there just wasn't enough content and stuff to do to warrant keep playing if the game had all this and had more villagers and could interact and do stuff with all of them on top of having mini games that I head about in previous games it wouldn't be as bad there would be more stuff to do keep you occupied while you;re waiting so you're not just wasting you're having fun. Which New Horizon just seems like it does everything it can to stop you from having fun maybe it get's better later on but I just don't care to bother at the moment and it's a grind fest where as previous games weren't about grinding it was interacting with the town and lovable villagers.

There was a hole section for online play, where you could meet new people every day. New horizons feels empty because you are basically ALONE. No online system, mini games, or REAL online island. I lose interest in AC because not only I am an AC hater but it is a disgrace of the artistic philosophy Katsuya Eguchi planted. AC is an anti-game, it has its set of design philosophy and the messages it wants to convey. Example: villagers are stereotype of their personality type without being a caricature. You can class them before talking to them. They are allowed to be weird and quirky, which give freedom to design but still follow the design philosophy. Normal have a polite look, Jock are confident, Cranky has grumpy face, Snooty has make-up... There are many messages AC wanted to send and it has many form. The "enjoy the present" is obvious because you have a real-time hour, the opposite of classic game. "It's okay you didn't made it, all that matter is that you did the best" is seen with the rarest fish (where you get at night and when it raining or snowing) or trying to complete the catalogue. It also means perseverance. AC is a simplification of what life is. Don't force yourself, don't have high expectation. Go with the flow and enjoy the life. Dialogue is the major point of AC. In the first game, they are salty and rude but the most you talk to them, the more you discover their depth and the more you become part of the community. They give you a portrait with a life motto, giving more personality. Also, life is a dick and we are challenged to it.

More choice but also more depth, more community, more personality, more charm and more reasons to come back to it every day! New Horizons didn't try to be an Animal Crossing game. It just tried to look like one enough so that old fans would buy it, only to then bonk those fans on the head with a butterfly net... I’m annoyed with Nintendo going this route, and sure it’s cool with all the extra fabulous additions… But I miss the character-building and lengthy conversations. I do miss the snarky characters. All the characters now are neutral in tone and only require us by giving them presents each day to gain friendship. I still occasionally check in and my island is terraformed like crazy. But I was hoping for the mini-games. Even the Barista mechanic would’ve been a great touch. A level for us to get to know our villagers a little better! There’s not much you can do with friends either. When it comes to Nintendo, It’s more about profit now than anything else. I hope creators can see your video and see everyone’s comments. Maybe they will revamp for the next new Animal Crossing game. I feel like it’s not too late to give New Horizons the love it needs. I don’t understand why they want to stop major updates either… the game still has lots of potentials, and it’s not like we’re going to see Switches disappear for a long time anyway.

havent watched yet but the update announcement didnt excite me at all and peoples excitement genuinely pissed me off because i knew nothing was fixing the core gameplay and just tacking shit on top (one feature ppl loved was literally just fucking happy home designer, a game i already own that definitely wasnt worth the retail price of fifty dollars, but thats not the point, the point is its lazy not new content theyre acting like is new bc all the newbies dont know any better meanwhile borderline punishing loyal fans who bought hhd back in 2015) of a game with zero depth 😒 as someone who found so much comfort in acnl it genuinely angers me how acnh has been ruined and i fear the direction ac will take with the new fanbase for nintedo to cater to. i waited til january 2021 to even get acnh and it was a waste of money. do i have over a hundred hours in it? yes. was it worth it? NO. SO MANY OF THOSE HOURS WAS ME BEING STRESSED ABOUT MY ISLAND OR TRADING AKA NOT HAVING FUN. also compared to my 1800 hours in new leaf lol it also genuinely pisses me off because if you wanna decorate go play the sims. dont ruin the one good life sim i found deep comfort in. is it entitled? maybe, but so many new fans shit on the older ones for being upset about acnh so i dont really care.

OH ALSO SCREW COOKING. MAYBE THIS IS PETTY BUT THAT ISNT ANIMAL CROSSING. i get so irritated at people wanting or liking the stupid cooking and harvesting mechanics. i dont know why but it deeply angers me because thats. not. animal crossing. go play stardew valley??? it literally makes me go what the hell. am i the only one who feels this way? i think it also has a lot to do with what it stands for. aka "no we wont fix the core gameplay being terrible but we will tack on this useless side thing all the newbies want because we only cater to them now and itll make it look like we listen and care when we really dont." all cooking is is an alternate way to craft 🙄 its stupid. fixing the gameplay wouldnt even be that hard. just add progression and make the villagers less sucky. sure it wouldnt be nearly as good as new leaf to me because the core mechanics of new horizons are different and have too much freedom, BUT at least itd be fun instead of like a chore. also tortimer island mini games. how hard is that 😑

since im ranting about my opinions ill also say decorating in nh isnt that fun. its stressful. theres too much freedom and i dont feel as accomplished when i finish things. unlike in nl where you really had to work with your town map. tbh though if you actually had yknow stuff to do other than decorate itd probably be more fun also as someone with lots of ideas i cant possibly do them all so i find it hard to invest too much knowing ill wanna change it later then feel trapped bc i dont wanna lose my hard work and waste hours of my life on pixels which i absolutely did in new leaf but in that game i was attached to and loved my town so it felt worth it. not in new horizons. its too much like a sandbox where if you kick over your castle it doesnt matter in the end because youre going home once it gets dark out.

new leaf gave me a home when i didnt have one. new horizons is just like tv static. or the perfect dollhouse family thats all fake. i was so hopeful to relive some of that magic in new horizons. even with all the bad reviews i thought "well its so popular now so maybe its just not for everyone" and i was wrong. i could go back to new leaf and it wouldnt be quite as magical as it was at first but i know itd be so much more fun. it always is. i miss my 3ds. i havent installed the update and im not sure if i even will if it provides so little.

oh another unpop opinion i hate new horizons lighting its too bright and makes things look... not quite washed out but just off (edit: nvm its totally washed out looking) cannot believe i prefer new leafs lighting. which is prbaly just nostalgia talking but thats unrelated to my disdain for the nh lighting. it makes me feel genuinely kinda sick. its way too much. now if its a storm, the lighting is perfect. i wish the lighting was just like that in day time. bright but not oversaturated to the point of things looking plasticy.

@@SimpleBean k, replayed new leaf recently and realized NH is basically a design simulator, villagers in New Leaf are something else, in Horizons they are just for aesthetics, in Leaf they talk about your inventory items and dressing, give quests, does H. Birthday parties, send letters, give items for free, visit your home, suggest items to put in your walls, ask for suggestion about how they should call you, ask suggestion for another slang they can use, has mini-games, tons of gossip about other villagers... music is way better too. I was hyped to play NH a lot, but I'll stay on New Leaf anyway, can emulate it on computer so the quality is much better than a regular 3ds.
