This Nintendo Switch had a blue screen when turned on. This is usually because of an APU issue or broken traces under the APU and a re ball is heede.
****It works ofter the re-ball but doesn't always load games crashes on loading screen^^^^
There may be a part 2 on this!

is it super risky to use a concave tip on a soldering iron to add the "solder balls" using normal solder or is it just more difficult and time consuming compared to what you are doing in the video?
@UberMicroRepairs

@@MattMathisSoftwareGuy I have the propper stencil and jig. I just had to manually do this to get the job done.

Nice repair! I find them interesting but this is one repair I still haven't really messed with personally.
@UberMicroRepairs
@UberMicroRepairs 2 года назад
It's time consuming. Only really did it because I was at a loose end. I'm waiting on a jig and stencil can't be hand reballing these. Why not give it a go the RAM and APU seem to stand the heat quite well.

@@UberMicroRepairs I probably will at some point if I personally get my hands on one. Not sure how I'd warranty it as a customer repair though so been apprehensive about even offering it as an option.

This kind of job terrifies me because it's so complicated. From having steady hands to the equipment required. I once fixed a 3DS which did not boot and that was simply due to the analog having rusted. Things like this are beyond me. What's most shocking is that a lot of used Nintendo Switch consoles on Ebay have this same blue kernel panic screen. Are these the result of a manufacturing error with Nintendo ?
@UberMicroRepairs
@UberMicroRepairs 2 года назад
It all takes practice and having the right equipment! Just repair what you a happy with. When the time is right move on to more complicated stuff. research and asking questions are key! Oh, and practice!!! I've broken more APU's (PS3 RSX, Xbox 360 GPU's )than I have fixed just to put it into perspective!! There comes a time where your skill and tools allow you to go further and fix things confidently!
@WickedCrispy
@WickedCrispy 2 года назад
The issue is cheap lead-free solder. The same stuff they started using industry wide with the xbox 360. It's not as strong and as these boards heat up / cool down, or have people flexing the hand-helds, the solder pops loose because it gets brittle over time. The industry refuses to fix the problem because usually by the time it happens the warranty is out anyway so their "solution" is to just tell you to buy a new one.

Just a question because I don't quit understand it: why is everybody putting on new solder on the blank pcb before wicking the surface? why not just wicking it directly?
@UberMicroRepairs
@UberMicroRepairs Год назад
The factory solder is lead free, this means it takes more heat to melt it. We replace it (or mix it) with leaded solder, leaded solder has a lower melting point (changed it to a new type of alloy) and makes it easier to wick it away as to not damage the pads with heat or excessive wiping. Not only that we use leaded solder because it is alot more durable and can handle heat cycling better during operation..

Sorry. I don't offer advice on hacked Nintendo consoles. The blue screen does indicate and APU / RAM hardware issue though.

Well, I literally have a 11 year old with Autism and I am trying to figure out how he has Blue Screened 3 Switch lights now. How is this done? Would it be from him throwing them? Dropping them? "Even in the strongest case I can find" he is only 4.5 feet tall so... Least nowI have a clue how to fix the ones I have sitting here, ty for that.
@UberMicroRepairs
@UberMicroRepairs 2 года назад
Hi, Blue screen fault on a switch is probably the worst issue to have. The repair as seen in the video is very time consuming. Throwing and dropping certanly can cause this fault aswell as bending the Switch being the main cause. It causes the solder balls under the main CPU to crack or in some cases rip pads from the PCB.
