This video describes the process of "fixing" a console which charges BUT does not turn on.
This console showed 0.42A of charge but did not power on or show anything on the display.
The capacitors around CPU were shorted, thus indicating an issue with the CPU.

Those caps under a SoC/APU usually have a very low resistance. If your meter beeps short below 50ohm, these will always beep. Sub-50 ohm isn't always a "short" , it's just under 50ohm. Id recommend to stop using continuity almost altogether. You just replaced filter caps here. I'm surprised it still worked but it's possible as others are also filtering...so it's just stressing the other filtering caps lol.

look i never tried to repair a switch, i've repaired some graphic cards, 1ps3, 1 xbox one. The resistance of bga chips are normally really low, for example a gtx 1060 measure around 0.3 omhs on the GPU so i recommend you to not use the "bip" to check it, but the actual resistance and compare to another good one. If it have a close resistance it doesnt means the processor is necessarily good, but it's a good indicator. Sry about my english, isn't my main language

Hi, I don't know if this console of yours finally bit the bullet or not but i would say, if it was a capaacitor issue - then simply exchange the suspected components with new ones, you can easily measure the capacitance from a a donor, the voltage rating can be guessed, CPU/GPU typically have a VCC of approx 1.2V to 1.4V so just opt from something above that. You'll notice looking under the microscope that these capacitors don't sit flush with the board, they almost look like they hover, special lead type, it's not critical to replace them with this style but they do prevent problems with cracking, which may be important on handhelds such as this (flex) I would say the most common issue with Switches is board warp, it warps or someone has a tantrum and twists the entire unit and the tegra is stressed, if you remove the tegra i'd hazard you'd see a couple of pulled pads where the tegra has lifted off the board, i'd guess your rework in removing the capacitors relieved the stran and the chip made contact again. You can verify this by replacing with known good caps, if nothing then remove the tegra and reball or simply hit the chip with 200c for a min or two and observe the change, regards and good vid

Hey there, is 200c really enough with the lead free solder they use? Does the solder get softer and connect again, since in my experience it's flowing at around 400c.
@dom291
@dom291 4 года назад
@@liquicitizendirk2147 Hi, no 200c is not enough to reflow the solder - as you say 400c is more appropriate with thermal absorbtion for reflow - but using 200c would verify the issue with board warp as it will relieve stress on the board and tegra and i would only use it for verification of bigger issues. As mentioned previously, these boards are incredibly prone to warping and also the pad stiching is incredibly weak, I've removed several tegras and the pads always seem to lift in the same spot closer to the ram - this is usually the real issue and there's no way around it other than lifting the tegra and reparing the pads and traces and reballing.... reflowing would be a quick fix...but a temporary one

Caps behind APU are in series mostly around CPU clock line thats why they show up short. Nintendo switch most common problem is M92 chip which fails quite often.

Mine does charge it says 15v after the fuse, but it wont turn on, I have checked every cap and I have no short only in the ones you point but there a low impedance that's why it beeps, did you know any other method to check the ics besides short?

Does that chip quick flux give you headaches? I bought the same flux from CPC Farnell and it’s terrible stuff, do you like it? Jay

Hi, how's your Nintendo switch going? It's working? I did remove the capacitors you mentioned in the video, but my Switch won't boot up. Is there anything I can do?

It still works, yeah. Did it work before removing them?

@@GTurbski Yes it was working fine. I installed picofly and it was working fine but the next day I disassembled the console again and one wire was unsoldered and I soldered again but I forgot to disconnect the battery, so now I have a short circuit and I can’t find it. I already checked PI3USB and M92T35 and I don’t have a short circuit in any capacitor there. In the IC MAX77812EWB I do have a shortcut and also the capacitors you showed in the video.

I got my switch repaired by someone finding out none of the ic chip were shorted but was a capacitor blown and he removed it and it worked perfectly fine for me. He said removing 1 wouldnt be any problem as there are few others..

Hey I'm having issue with my switch console not turning on, I can hear a buzzing noise coming from on the motherboard. the charging indicator does not show up on screen, when pressing the power button and waiting a few seconds then taping on the screen does nothing. I have two videos on my channel of the issue occurring. what do you think it could be? Thanks!
@liquicitizendirk2147

Hey Kyle, could be a charge related chip like m92t36, p13usb or bq. If possible open it up and check shorts via multimeter.

Try GBAtemp forum. A lot of good information. Unfortunately, there are no schematics for the Switch. Everything known is from other people documenting issues.

I have a switch witch had a damaged charged port and a fault P13usb chip. I replaced both but still will not turn on, can't find any shorts anywhere either. When plugged in it trys to charge at 0.54a? Any ideas? Cheers

@@mike185bmx One other chip to take a look at would be the one to the right of the charge port. The chip starting with BQ. This has some responsibility when it comes to charge current regulation. The other one to check is the chip directly behind the M92T36.
